Andrew, yes I agree it all seems so obvious after he explains it! I just finished The Sign of Four, I really liked that one too!

not yet..unless you count the fact that I seem to understand things better. :D
..i realized that this is the wrong thread.... moving on. :O

It's a great book! Have you read his others? Like father, like son"
I've read Heart Shaped Box and that it was wonderful. Agree 100% that Hill writes like a young, aggressive King.
I've been struggling through The Bear by Claire Cameron, but as much as I try not to do this, I may have to set it aside unfinished. I started it on 1/1, but dislike it so much I've been actually avoiding reading to stay away from it. Hopefully it's my mood and I'll be able to pick it up later, but I don't really think so.Luckily I have the perfect excuse to start Rose Madder for the group's read. :D

You're not the only one who gave up on The Bear. I did as well.
I've currently got three books going:Under the Dome which I've been working on for a little while now. Its not that I don't like the story, its just that the book is so massive its hard to get comfortable with, haha.
The Regulators, because it goes with one of my other favorite books, Desperation
And lastly, Soulless which is a YA book I'm reading because I got the first 3 books in the series for free on my nook, and they aren't too bad - a good mindless read, like most YA books are to me.
Michael, thanks for telling me! I always feel such guilt for giving up on a book.I tried reading a few reviews (which I usually avoid until I finish) and see that many others had the same "issues" with the writing that I do.

I love Carriger's stuff! The entire Soulless series is fun and I just started another by her.
Reading IT and reading and reading and reading. Massive book, highly absorbing mind you. Also working on The World of Ice and Fire as a companion with the 4 book series of Game of Thrones (currently on a Storm of Swords)
Hoping to start John Connolly's The Unquiet within the week. I read too much at once.
Samuel wrote: "I just started Misery and so far it is a great book! I'm so excited to keep reading it!"Misery is one of my favorites of King. Drink it all in. I'm so jealous I can't be reading it for the first time again!
I just finished Insomnia. It squeezed a hell lot of tears out of me at the end.I can finally move to Rose Madder. It's gonna be my first group read, so I'm really excited about it.

Looking forward to having you join us.
Just finished a crime thriller so now I'm thinking back to king, I'm not sure if I ever read rage or the long walk, and definitely have never read the stand so at 2am I'm deciding between the 3 of them, I'll let you know what I chose tmrw :-)
The Four Fingers of Death by Moody is great so far. A postmodern take on a someone rewriting B Horror movie The Crawling Hand.
Rhian wrote: "I decided on the long walk? seems I haven't read it before"If you haven't, boy, are you in for a ride!
Rhian wrote: "*Kandice sorry for the misspelling of your name there hun"No worries..;) Frank Darabont is supposedly making a movie of The Long Walk. I. Can. Not. Wait.
I am also re reading Chronic City, which I originally rated 3 stars, but will soon go up to 4 maybe 5 and a spot in my favorites. Continuing on the brilliance of Gravity's Rainbow... so tough to read but Pynchon is so good!
TheLongWait wrote: "The Four Fingers of Death by Moody is great so far. A postmodern take on a someone rewriting B Horror movie The Crawling Hand."Should I watch before I read it. I have Four Fingers on my nightstand
Tom, not necessary to watch at all. I bought the book despite the niggling reviews, but I love it so far! Moody can flat out write.

I'm currently reading NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. It is a good book, however it's a bit too long.

Everything Darabont touches turns to gold. I wish he would've been King's go-to guy before Mick Garris.

Right now I seem to be at a stand-still with Horns. I was going along fine and then hit this flashback portion that doesn't seem to end. It's almost thrown me off the story.
I have NOS4A2 on my Nook and plan to get to it this year.
I haven't posted in awhile. Here are some of the books that I've read recently:The Art of Fielding
A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead
Revival
I don't know what to read next.
I've started reading the whole Harry Potter series again. I haven't read them in seven or so years, so it's all very fresh. I wish there was a way you could just erase your mind after you let a great book series sink in and read the whole thing over like it's the first time.

Keep reading Dave! IMO NOS4A2 is better
Dave, Nos4a2 was definitely my favorite of the 3 novels by Hill. It had a great pace from start to finish, it never went off the rails with "..and then a bunch of crazy stuff happened.." (Like some King stories do) It starts creepy and funny, and ends that way. I also liked 20th Century Ghosts short stories. Some stories seemingly ended in the middle, but I actually appreciated that style. It left my imagination working.
Right now I'm reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. I'm not even half way through and I'd already consider it one of the finest fantasy novels I've ever read.
Bruce wrote: "Right now I'm reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. I'm not even half way through and I'd already consider it one of the finest fantasy novels I've ever read."I loved that book! It was my first Clive Barker.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll give it a try when I finish up with Rose Madder in the next few days.

I've read a few before myself, and I have a couple I'm planning on reading later.

Bruce wrote: "Kirstin wrote: "Bruce wrote: "Right now I'm reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. I'm not even half way through and I'd already consider it one of the finest fantasy novels I've ever re..."I have Imajica sitting on my shelf and I want to read The Hellbound Heart soon too.
Kirstin wrote: "Bruce wrote: "Kirstin wrote: "Bruce wrote: "Right now I'm reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. Gone is sitting on my shelf, and I have Imajica and Books of Blood Vol 4-6 coming in the mail.
I am three books deep in the John Corey series by Nelson Demille. Stephen King had, The Gold Coast, listed at the end of On Writing. I haven't read it, but had been given a Nelson Demille novel, Plum Island, the first in the John Corey series and I'm hooked. Nelson Demille listed on his web site that the series is being made into a tv series I can not wait for that to start!!
Kirstin wrote: "Nick wrote: "Kirstin wrote: "Bruce wrote: "Right now I'm reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker. I'm not even half way through and I'd already consider it one of the finest fantasy novels..."I'll give it a try.
