I would read them in this order, according to my preference, but I'd hate to steer you wrong!

Rose Madder
Insomnia
The Regulators
Desperation

You can't steer me wrong. but I was thinking Rose Madder first too. Definitely not Insomnia it is almost al long as IT which I just finished. Rose Madder is shorter. My favorite so far I think is Bag of Bones. :)

message 1803: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments Rose Madder is one of his that hurts my heart. There is some fantasy, but the "real" parts are just so intense and obviously happen all the time Very, sad and then inspiring.

Whatever order you decide to read in I would suggest reading The Regulators and Desperation one after the other. I prefer The Regulators, but it makes no difference which you read first.

I've only read Insomnia twice. It's not one of my favorites, but when I read it after I had finished the DT series I enjoyed it quite a bit more than the first time around.

message 1804: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 57 comments I've just barely started reading his books. Pet Sematary, The Shining, Doctor Sleep, The Green Mile, Bag of Bones, and It. Bag of Bones ease like that for me. There was some heartbreaking moments and some terrifying imagery.

Michael Davis Jamie, all the buzz about that movie the last couple of weeks has almost convinced me to read the book too. Anxious to hear what you think of it.

Kandice | 4387 comments I saw the movie yesterday, after reading the book a few weeks ago. I cannot recommend either of them enough! Awesome story that turns back on itself and changes your opinion often enough that it becomes a literary ouroboros.

It's a great read! I think that it's one of those that you either like or hate

message 1810: by E. (new)

E. | 242 comments I'm finally finding a good pace with Crime and Punishment. It's still slow going but I'm covering more ground with each sitting. I'm enjoying the story more and more, being inside the main character's head, whether his thoughts are sensible, narcissistic or idiotic.
I'm also reading The Long Walk, which once I started I realized I had read before, but I'll finish it anyway. The story is pretty raw, walk or die, but the dialogue seems antiquated, 1950's or 60's.

Michael, so far I like it, it's really really interesting but I haven't read much, I have an awful head cold which makes reading hard.

Kandice, I've already started to noticed that already. It keeps you on your toes.

message 1813: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Finished Lost Light (Harry Bosch, #9) by Michael Connelly Lost Light,a gripping read that I had to complete in one sitting.
PROS - One of the rare series where not only the writer improves but the characters also mature. The book was written in 1st person POV and the insight into how Bosch views his actions was fascinating.
CONS - The plot is not as strong as his previous books. The ending twists are shocking but does not make much sense. RATING 4/5.

Thanks for your feedback regarding Gone Girl, I have been wanting to read it ever since I heard David Fincher was going to direct the movie.

The movie had not yet been released in my country. I will be sure to watch it once I had read the book.

Kandice | 4387 comments Just finished The New World, am starting The Knife of Never Letting Go, and am about halfway through Pay It Forward which I misplaced for a few days. I expected it to be sappy, but it isn't and I'm enjoying much more than I thought I would.

Michael Davis I finally started Wind Through the Keyhole. My enthusiasm for the series has diminished a bit but still going to try to finish it.

I couldn't agree more. In fact, it's in my top 5. I'm a firm believer that if you can read Boy's Life and not be moved to your core, then you have no soul. Lol.

Aditya Finished Gone Girl Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn , one of the best books I have read all year. This book had it all interesting characters, engrossing plot that kept me turning the pages and a cerebral yet witty writing style.Rating - 5/5,recommended to all.

P.S. Some reviews led me to believe the book can be incredibly boring which kept me from reading till the forthcoming movie almost pushed me to read it.I can perfectly understand the criticism of how the characters may appear unsympathetic and too dark to some readers but never was it boring,so don't let that particular complaint putting you from reading this great book.

I loved it too! I read a few bad reviews after I read it for myself and was amazed at some of the complaints I saw. I thought it was really well paced, kept you guessing right up until the end and certainly surprised me.

Bag of Bones
The Talisman
Liseys Story
?
Thoughts would b appreciated.

Jeff (thelongwait) | 293 comments I havr heard good and bad. I am NOT a fan of horror despite my love for King. I view his work as more literary fiction than anything, with some supernatural aspects. Plus I have REALLY enjoyed his later work like 11/22/63 , Under the Dome and Dr. Sleep.

I highly recommend The Talisman. This excellent book was a collaboration with Peter Straub in 1984 then a sequel was done in 2004 called Black House. The main character (sort of) end up in The Dark Tower and Mid-World.

E. | 242 comments The Talisman was one I read when it first came out. I really liked the premise, and it's one that has "stuck with me" my whole life. Just seemed special, or magical I guess
Possibly on a re-read 30 years later it might not feel the same, so...I won't read it again. =}

It's on of my favorites too and I've reread it quite a few times. It's just as magical the tenth time as the first for me. ;) Bet you'd still love it.

Tom | 78 comments Duma Key was also really good. People seem to either love or hate both Duma Key and Lisey'd Story. I am in the loved camp

message 1840: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I love them both! I'm always happen to find another "lover", because you are right. Quite a few people really dislike them. I think they both have a larger element of fantasy than some King readers are comfortable with. Vampires don't exist, but we are all familiar with them, so they don't come across as fantasy quite as much as "the longboy with the piebald side". A phrase which gives me the wiggins just typing it!

Nathan Jodry (theycallmewitness) | 79 comments I hated Lisey. I just couldn't get into the baby talk. Duma Key was cool, but not a fav by any means.

Although, it’s hard to judge since so far I read both books only once each.

My only problem with the book is that it took me halfway through to get into it, thought it was boring up until then. I ended up giving it 4 stars.
