What Are You Reading Now? Pt 2.
Duma key. Complicated...convoluted
Good, but complicated. Wireman is one of THE best characters ever. He's a "dandy in aspic". A truly quotable guy.
Also tackling Crime and Punishment.
It's slow going, not written in contemporary conversational English, but the story is pretty good.

Agree on Duma Key and Wireman, what a guy!!
Halfway through IT and loving it. Also reading Inherent Vice by Pynchon which is really funny. And David Foster Wallace's unfinished novel The Pale King which is AMAZING and makes me sad he is gone. Next will be Gravity's Rainbow and Bloody Bess and the Doomsday Games. I like to have a range of bools going at once.

H wrote: "Hi there Nick*-*"Hi! I'm enjoying some very interesting scenes in Shadow Queen. Hope you're into some fun reads.
I've been reading this thread feeling sad that I have never read IT, I was searching for my copy of the girl with the dragon tattoo today and I found my copy of IT, I was sure I had loaned it to someone and never got it back, I'm now hoping to fit it in before the year is out

I'd love to get your take on it. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is pretty great too I think... the whole series.
I tried girl with the dragon tattoo once and gave up after 50 pages but I've bought the trilogy so intend to try again, probably after IT now that I found IT ha ha
Truth is that this "trilogy" is a little bit difficult to catch one's attention right from the start. But it worth one more effort. It has it's own charm but it doesn't get to be breathtaking I m afraid.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn which I am liking more than her others. It's funny and smart. I haven't gotten to the OMG parts yet, though.
I am currently listening to Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, and reading Shift by Hugh Howey and Enjoying both, once done with that I shall start Dr Sleep.
I am reading Secret Place, by Tana French
. I am trying to read Irish contemporary authors, and I love crime novels, so I thought I could give it a go.
Luciana I'm also reading the secret place, it's my second book by tana french I absolutely hated the 1st one and it took a while to get into this one, I'll be glad to finish it now
@ Margaret I've heard good things about the books so I started looking for them in charity shops and soon got them all, I'll try the 1st one again and see how it goes

Hope you enjoy It, Rhian. I loved it. I read it last summer while camping.

@ kathryn I'm sure I will enjoy it I love the film, it's looking like a lot of reading so I'm saving it for winter
@Michael, 'Salems Lot is such a killer read & awesome take on the vampire genre, how did you find the tale to be?
It was great! I'm very unfamiliar with the vampire stories so this was my introduction. Old King as usual doesn't disappoint.
About 600 pages into IT and i am loving it. Should I read Underworld by DeLillo or Gravity's Rainbow by Pynchon next?
Gavin wrote: "Finally finished Tess, good, but dense. Anyway, now I'm reading Treasure Island"Finished. Now I'm reading The Mysterious Stranger and Other Stories
Just started Ancient Egypt by George Rawlinson after finishing The Lake by Tannarive Due. Don't bother with The Lake. It really wasn't that good.
Susan wrote: "I finally started
. Now I'll know what the fuss is all about ;)."I'm anxious to hear what you think about the novel in general. and "the scene" in particular.
Kandice I'll definitely share my thoughts after I finish the book :)By far it's just such an easy read. I have no idea how I managed to read so many pages already. I'm really into "It" ;)
Alas IT, my chosen, I've read IT almost 200 times, timeless, the apex of modern horror & King's incomparable genius. IT is truly literature, IT is potent, engrossing, scary, suspenseful, with IT, King is once again flawless, the vitality of his narrative voice is superb. IT delivers,

I've heard good things. Only ten percent through but I'm really enjoying it so far
Pat wrote: "I'm reading
Gone Bitch: A Parody of Gone Girlafter reading
Gone Girl"I'm almost finished with Gone Girl, but have never even heard of Gone Bitch: A Parody of Gone Girl! Is it funny? I may have to look for it.
Started The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan a few days ago, almost finished! Also reading The Walking Dead book one
Finished
, gave it 4 stars - didn't hate it, but dind't love it. Starting
Cause of Death, by Patricia Cornwell today.

I blew through the Twilight books, though and loved them all even as I felt the guilt of doing so!
