How'd you like W & G?

message 1653: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 335 comments I finished W & G yesterday late and I liked very much. The main story is about the youth of Roland and explain so much of his transformation from young man to gunslinger.
This part is wonderful and full of descriptions and details, able to give authentic emotions to the reader. I like this excursion in the past, meanwhile their wander continue in the land over Topeka, after leaving Blane.

This was really a hard one to get through, and while I can't say I enjoyed it, I can say it's an amazingly well-written novel.

So far I just hate the writing style, it's very distracting. It also feels stiff. However I know I'll finish it this time, last time I was still in school so that made it easier to abandon what with homework and such. Now that I have the time to read it, it will eat at me if I don't finish it.

I've heard it's an excellent book, so I'm hoping it loosens up and becomes easier to read.

message 1666: by Aditya (new)

Aditya Finished Stalking The Angel Stalking the Angel (Elvis Cole, #2) by Robert Crais , pretty disappointing read. The series takes a step back rather than building on the good parts of the first book. But have heard enough rave recommendations about Robert Crais to continue with the series.

I think that after the first two books, something has been lost. This is funny, full of strange things and absurd dialogues, but it's a little confused for me.

Aditya Finished Chasing the Dime Chasing the Dime by Michael Connelly , the first truly bad book I have read from Michael Connelly though to be fair to him, usually his stand alone books are never as good as his series books.

message 1679: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments I'm plowing through tons of scripts as a judge of the Cinequest Film Festival, and desperately trying to find time to finish The Shadow Queen which is so good. BTW there very few horror scripts in this years submissions and the one I got was brilliant but so horrific that I had to knock it down a few pegs for that. Also looking for a good audio book to listen to while driving around. Have Eyes of The Dragon which I might do. There don't seem to be as many King audio books available as there used to be. I do want to reread Desperation which I never liked and feel deserves a second chance.

No disrespect to Gavin though, it is worth reading, it's just that Hardy is the king of negativity... even if things can't possibly go wrong they still do. And yet his works are held in such high esteem because of his Heroines. I gotta figure out what he does right. Did I just answer my own question?

I think you did. I love Tess! Yes, Hardy is the most depressing author I've ever read, but I still re-read him over and over.

Glutton for punishment, I guess.

Jamii (jamiilynnmarie) | 46 comments I'm about halfway through The Road by Cormac McCarthy, I finally got somewhat into it, making it a little easier to read.
I also am almost a hundred pages in on Divergent by Veronica Roth. It's a really great read that I probably wouldn't have read any time soon if it weren't for the 12 year old I babysit.

What I've read so far is really good. I've heard it was good but had no plans of reading it right away. I was babysitting Wednesday and the twelve year old got the book and said "you can barrow it. I have all of them, they are really good. Read it." I simply couldn't turn that down. He knows I like to read. He waited about five minutes while I was playing with his brother and then said "did you start it yet?" Lol

The boy I babysit said one of the other two is his favorite, I don't remember which though.
I have a hard time sticking to entire series. I think I made it halfway through book two of the twilight saga, and a third of the way through book two of hunger games. However that was back when I was still in highschool and was overwhelmed with school work.
So maybe now that I'm just working, I'll be able to make it through the whole Divergent Series. I've been reading a lot more this year than I was ever able to in school.

I liked the second book and I did like the third book but it was the weakest out of the three, in my opinion. I can understand why a lot of people didn't like the way the series ended.
