I had to give up on the jesse kellerman book it was so boring so now I'm reading the accident by linwood barclay, its the 1st time I ever give up on a book and I probably will try to go back to it

Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott which I've only just begun and is breaking my heart.

The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith which I am actually going to start as soon as I read the last page of The Strain which I do not like at all! Silkworm will be my "treat" for finishing. :)

Currently I'm reading Orange Is The New Black by Piper Kerman.
after watching the series I absolutely had to read the book I'm a little over half way through it and it's fantastic!

I thought the book was great, but found it funny that the series was so much more graphic than the book. Not that prison is easy, but Kerman's story on the page was much tamer than Chapman's on screen.

Just finished The Stranger Beside Me, a book that puts the psychological motivation of Mr Mercedes to shame. (Check out my review of both.) Driving up to San Fran from LA and will be listening to the audio book of IT all the way. Should be a very interesting ride. In the evenings I have to read scripts for the Cinequest film festival (I'm a judge) but it's slowing down my other novel reading and I'm falling behind.

I absolutely agree. I think it might be partially because the author didn't want to upset anyone maybe? Plus they had to up the dramatics for TV obviously lol. I love the book so far and I love the series, but honestly they are 2 separate entities for me. It's not the typical tv/movie adaption of a book. Idk but I kind of like that the show isn't afraid to be graphic.

I bet it's exciting reading film scripts. I'm a bit of a theatre/acting lover so I always enjoy reading play formatted things. I hope you enjoy judging!!!

Just finished Infinite Jest, which totally lived up to the hype and I would recommend to anyone who wants to be challenged by a great book....and started Under the Dome tonite. Next is Pynchon's V.

Finished Angels Flight by Michael Connelly,the best book so far in the Harry Bosch series. I hope more mysteries and thrillers were like this where the plot is not hampered by pointless romances or the protagonist is not forced to behave like an avenging angel(coincidentally the earlier books in the series were plagued by both these flaws).

The scripts are all pretty good, but when I hit an outstanding one it's amazing. Last year I found a script that was unbelievably good... kind of a Hotel New Hampshire set in Beverly Hills. It was so brilliant it stood out like a bright gem. I gave it the highest ratings I could think of and it came in 3rd in the final competition. I didn't have a say in the final judging. that was done by a panel of film critics who responded to pitches by the different authors. All in all it was a great experience.

243 pages into 11/22/63 and I am blown away by how great this story is and how it crosses over with Derry mythos. Excited every time I pick it up!

Finished A Girl is a Half-formed Thing by Eymear McBride. Best book I have read since a long time. The style reminds of Absalom, Absalom by Faulkner. Great!

glad I'm not alone! I'm almost finished with the book and it has picked up a bit. It's been a really good read just not as interesting as I imagined. Like a said it has picked up though.

I like it a lot, but I also liked the first installment.

I didn't love The Casual Vacancy. It took too long for the actual story to begin, but the Strike books are great, IMO.

I have The Casual Vacancy on my Kindle, but I haven't read it yet. I'll see this summer.

The Casual Vacancy was a good story, but it felt as if she was writing as if she knew the book would be thousands of pages long and then realized about halfway through that, no, she had only hundreds of pages so better get to it. It felt very much like a "bridge" between the world building series that HP was, and stand alone novels set in our world.

Rowling is very good at characterization and that alone makes CV worth reading, it just doesn't make for an amazing, stand-alone, re-read worthy novel.

I read Harry Potter, felt it was good but did not deserve the hype which accompanied it. But I am just curious if an author is good at characterization then the stand alone novels must be worthy of a re-read.King is best at writing relate able characters and his good stand alone ones can easily be read more than once. If an author takes seven books to draw a character (which your posts suggests) then does it not mean that she is actually bad at it?

All the books from The Concrete Blond to the one I have read so far are pretty good,i just loved Angel's Flight the most because of its more gritty ending.Hope you enjoy them.

Aditya - I didn't mean to imply in any way that it took Rowling 7 books to flesh out her characters or build her world. I'm sorry if my comment came across that way. Rowling's characterization the first HP installment was enough to make me fall in love with them and anxiously await the next. The HP world was what I felt benefited from the length of the series. As the characters grow up so do the stories making it possible for her to go deeper into that world, it's politics, rules, society, etc. That's all I meant.

Hello! I had the same problem with the talisman. I actually had put it down for a while and came back to it. I was really glad I did! It is one of my favorite Stephen King books! I'll be reading it again soon. I think you will enjoy it!

Once the journey begins, the book gets more interesting so you guessed right, I am enjoying it. Glad I don't give up on books easily even if they are a chore. I would rather finish the book and even then if it is crap, I would avoid the author hence forth.That came in handy with this one.
