I enjoyed Fight Club! I felt like reading the book helped some parts of the film make more sense. Happy reading!

I love Pileggi's books! They translate so well to screen because, as a society, we are so fascinated by the Mafia. I hope you like it.

Oh it goes way beyond fascination for me. It's a straight up obsession for sure. I've read many other books on the subject. My thirst for that particular knowledge just cannot be quenched!

I assume you've read all of Puzo's then, right? So, so good. I too am a little obsessed. If you are ever looking for a deep dive series, I cannot recommend strongly enough Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series. The first is The First Man in Rome. I had no idea that the mafia as we know it today was started in ancient Rome, and has changed very little as far as the bare bones. That series shows you the structure from the bottom up, and inside out.

I've read some Puzo. Shockingly enough, I've not read The Godfather. I've read Omerta, The Last Don, and The Fortunate Pilgrim which is one of my favorite books of all time! Have you read anything by Lorenzo Carcaterra? He has one called Gangster that's really good! I was big into the fiction Mafia type books for awhile then I started to get really into the nonfiction ones. I've read way more nonfiction on the subject. I'm always looking for similarities/differences in the different accounts in different books. I really just can't get enough! I'll definitely look into the ones you recommended. Thanks! You're pretty awesome Kandice! Happy reading!

I have NOT read Carcaterra, but I will remedy that right away. Thank you!

I also love The Fortunate Pilgrim! Puzo had such a beautiful way of making you feel for these guys that did horrible things, by making you see and understand, if not condone, their motivations.

Lorenzo Carcaterra also wrote Sleepers which I've not read. I've seen the film and I really enjoyed it. I need to read the book at some point.

One of my very, very favorites! If you have Netflix, they did a fantastic adaptation a few years ago that is completely worth the time once you've finished.

if you've read any of his other stuff... this is possibly his most fucked up book lol
He's really a master at putting you in the driver's seat with absolutely despicable protagonists

Imagine Billy Summers if Billy was an absolutely horrible person
