It is actually pretty good, so far. Really intriguing. This is the second work of Taylor Jenkins Reid's I have read, and I really like her approachable style.

message 8535: by Thomas (new)

Thomas I just finished Strangers by Dean Koontz for the second time. First time was in Norwegian (some 20 years ago), this time in the original language.
In the book I met both a priest with the name Callahan and a 1958 Plymouth Fury. And in the (later written) afterword I came across the word "pennywise".
Humour me. :-p

I read Floating Dragon many years ago now, and remember thinking it a fantastic horror novel. But I do agree, Peter Straub's books can be something of a slow build, but they are worth it. I strongly recommend Ghost Story, also written by Straub.

Ghost Story has been in my tbr pile for a while now. About a month or two ago, I was finally able to add the paperback to my shelf (shout out to the thrift store!) I look forward to reading that one. Mr. X is the only other Peter Straub book I've read. Have you read that one?

message 8545: by Kandice (new)

Kandice | 4387 comments I'm trying to force myself to finish Sunshine. I don't really care for it, but I don't really dislike it either, so don't think it's fair to DNF it.

I was underwhelmed by Mexican Gothic and felt it more keenly because that gorgeous cover promised such great thing! Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

Mr. X has been on my shelf for some time now, but as of yet, I haven't read it. How does it stack up when compared to his other books?

I'd say it stacks up pretty good compared to the one other book I've read by him. It was also dark and twisted but that's probably the norm for Straub. I enjoyed it.
