Agreed.

Derrick | 974 comments I'm almost done with Mr. X by Peter Straub. It's been a strange journey to say the least. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Slightly confusing in the beginning but after the first 30 pages or so, things started to clear up. This was my first Peter Straub book. I'm looking forward to reading more by him.

message 7570: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2 comments I finished The Shining, Salem's Lot and Carrie...now to get back into The Institute. After watching Chasing Yesterday, I wonder if S.K. viewed it too.

message 7573: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 974 comments Finished Mr. X tonight. I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be reading more from Peter Straub! Next I'm going to read Fight Club. I've seen the movie more times than I can count. I've never read anything by Chuck Palahniuk either so I look forward to getting into this one. I know it's rather short so I don't expect to take long reading it.

I have Fight Club on my list, let us know what you think.

I’ll be starting this book tonight, Jessy

message 7580: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 974 comments I liked The Institute a lot. Many differing opinions of it but I thought it was a cool story. I always try to go into my reading with a completely blank slate. This way I can let the authors fill it in however they see fit. I'm usually able to thoroughly enjoy pretty much anything I read.

I agree. I never read a review until after I’ve read the book, and mine often differs. Same with movies.

Derrick, I try to do the same. I read other people's opinions, but I try to go into a story with an open mind. I want to be ready to enter whatever world the author wants to lead me into.

I agree. I'll usually check out reviews when I'm having a bad reading experience; I like the reassurance that I'm not alone in feeling the way I do about a particular book.

Haha, Monica, I have to admit to doing that on occasion, also. I’m shocked at the people that actually loved it when I could barely finish!

message 7592: by Andrew✌️ (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 335 comments I've finished A Time of Changes, not a conventional sciFi story and in some parts a little boring. Anyway an interesting story.
Today I started Nine Princes in Amber and the beginning is promising.

message 7593: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 974 comments Well I've finished Fight Club. I enjoyed reading it. Reading the book makes certain parts of the movie more understandable. I found lots of little subtleties that aren't mentioned or explained in the movie. I only wish the book was longer. At just over 200 pages, it almost felt like a tease at least for me. My next read is going to be The Fireman by Joe Hill. I've never read anything by Joe Hill so I'm excited to get into it. Hopefully it arrives at my library tomorrow.

I really enjoyed The Fireman, gave it 5 stars by the end, but it took me awhile to get into it. Hope you like it! My favorite of his is NOS4A2.

Picked it up from the library after work today. I'll be starting it here shortly.

Derrick | 974 comments I'm enjoying The Fireman so far. Drama and trauma pretty much right away. Safe to say, I'm hooked already!

message 7598: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments I love Fight Club! I also love NOS4A2, haven’t read the Fireman yet!

Finally finished 11/22/63, which I loved! Right now I’m reading Revival by Stephen King and also How to Set Fires and Why by Jesse Ball.

message 7599: by Derrick (new)

Derrick | 974 comments Revival is really good! I've not read 11/22/63 but it's on the list.

message 7600: by Nick (new)

Nick Iuppa | 4272 comments Revival, The Fireman, and 11/22 a nice set. I enjoyed them all... I think I gave them all 5 star reviews. Same with Fight Club... some excellent selections. I just jumped ahead to re-read The Wastelands, after reading the Drawing of the Three. I may also do a re-read of Misery to say with the group doing the King reads in order. But I'm not sure I can read two King books at the same time, even though they're both re-reads.
