Alondra Miller Just finished American Vampire, Vol. 5. If you have not picked up this graphic novel series, then I highly recommend. Don't you like real vampires?? Not the soft-hearted, sparkly ones?? Then this is the book for you!! LOL

Currently reading two mysteries, The Purity of Vengeance and Mortal Causes

Joyland is one of the great undiscovered King works... I think it's wonderful, liked the audiobook and took it on a family trip, everyone enjoyed it. Thought it's definitely not for little kids.

message 6016: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Depends on how you define little kids. Physically or Mentally? In saying that my youngest is now 32, boy I an beginning to feel old...

Glen | 229 comments Joyland is in my top 5 King books outside of The Dark Tower series. It’s a gem!

Well you know there's carnival life, murder, terror, a little sex, a guy who dresses up like a hound, pretty girls in green dresses carrying cameras, newspaper reading, some misrepresentation. I'm thinking a 32-year-old might be able to hand that. :-)

another one bites the dust.

*mourns loss*

Just because I don't like Hobbs, doesn't mean we can't talk. Sai King is my all time favorite and then you have Tolkien, Rowling, Straub, and don't forget Brooks. Have you read Nick's books yet?

This is definitely true. I love Tolkien. Straub I like when he is writing with King.

I only have Nick on my TBR, so I have not read him yet. I will, I will!! :)

I have to tell you that I'm afraid of the dark. My wife was out of town for two weeks and I didn't dare watch Castle Rock late at night. I preferred mid-afternoon. "How do you think I'll be able to protect you?" she asked me when I finally explained it all to her. And I just said, "Hey, one sane person in the house is probably all it takes."

Me too.....usually. :-) I've been watching or reading horror since I was a kid. BUT those Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz are too scary to read at night sitting up in bed, LOL!!

I just read a couple so far, but those "bodachs" scared me so much I couldn't sleep for hours! I kept thinking they were lurking about, and the shadows in my room from furniture and such freaked me out!

Glad to hear I'm not alone in this though I do read horror at night, just don't watch movies or TV shows late. It's those crazy noises in the kitchen that get the most alarming. Ice makers may have actually caused some heart attacks. And we have motion-activated lights out front that just come on sometimes for no reason at all... maybe.

Bwahahaha…. I hear you on that. The last movie to scare me was one of the paranormal activity movies.... it just freaked me out for some reason. Maybe, because I could not really "see" what was terrorizing them. The only book that still freaks me out is Salems Lot, in the Marsten Basement... *shudders*….

I have read Stephen King since I was 13, along with Dean Koontz, Peter Benchley, etc. and the list goes on. Only a few movies cause me to jump, and they have to be really scary.. usually I just roll my eyes... or worse, laugh.

I started reading King at age 12. Then came Saul, Benchley, Koontz etc. they used to scare me but not anymore. Now, the book has to at least keep me on the edge of my seat and a page turner. Otherwise, I can get bored reading books that are supposed to be scary.

#1 scariest passage, The opening of Cujo with the kid and the monster in the closet. Of course, you maybe had to be a kid with a big closet in the bedroom... and a monster.

LOL! Yes, til this day, I make my husband close the bathroom and closet doors in the bedroom before we go to sleep. My dog is at the end of the bed and roams the house to protect me.... I am not playing with creepy...

I am nearing the end, maybe 50 pages left at this point. I am looking forward to seeing where the storylines with the little boy and with the Horror House go... I have the feeling that they are going to intersect soon. I didn't realize how recently it was published; from the cover of my own copy, I assumed that it was older.

Having waited about 8 years to re-read The Stand I have to say the most vivid part of the book was that trip through the Lincoln Tunnel. with Larry. Masterful!
