Susan A wrote: "If it is not explicitly stated in the challenge directions, is there a minimum page count? "
- If nothing is said in challenge rules, then there is no minimum pages. I'd like to say that unofficial rule of the group is 100 pages, but that would probably make me delusional :P
Susan A wrote: "Can I use the same book in multiple challenges?"
- Of course you can use same book in multiple challenges. I think I would give up on challenges if we couldn't do that ;)
Susan A wrote: "Can I use the books I've read this month, or do I start from today?"
- It mostly depends on you and on challenge. If challenge has fixed start and finish dates, you can backtrack your books to start of the challenge. You can, but you don't have to :)
As for others (no fixed start dates), you can mark it as started whenever you want. It can be day you signed up, or start of the month, or maybe next month, some other day. Whatever works best for you. Just make finish date (if there is any) accordingly. :)

Is that for a challenge? I think that we did count 0 as even number last time.
But if it's for some specific challenge, you might want to ask it there since creator might have different opinion.

Hi Manon,
We use different html codes depending on who is writing the text. Sometimes it will be using the tag blockquote, others may use the pre tag, or if all else fails you can use html spaces using
& nbsp
(With no space between the & and the letters)

General question. Is there a way to go directly to a post if you know the number of the message? So you don't have to scroll through lots of pages if you are trying to find something you wrote?
Thanks!

Each page has 50 posts, so if you know the number of your message ; let's say 242 ; then that would be on page 5 and then you can press the control button and f at the same time to get the "find" box (if on the desktop) and put in 242 to jump straight there, or just scroll down the page.
One way people save their posts is by right clicking on the date and time stamp to the right of the message - that will give you the hyperlink direct to your post. Then you can save that to always go directly where you need :)

OH WOW! Both of those work great! That is so awesome LOL I wish I had asked this question so long ago. Thank you so much Karen!
And while I am asking questions, how is it that you and certain people have little symbols (for example your flower) next to your name? 8-)

Go searching the unicode characters. http://www.fileformat.info/info/unico...
Not all of them are supported by all browsers though so you have to be a bit careful there.

Thanks Kelly! My next question would be if I found a symbol I wanted to use, how the heck would I go about it? LOL You are dealing with a 56 year old very un-techie person. Sorry..

That works great! Appreciate it.
No problems Caly :)
So if you find a symbol you'd like to use, just go to your profile (view profile in the top right hand corner) then next to your name click "edit profile" and then just copy and paste the symbol after your name in the "first name" box.
I only added mine as I was in a reading challenge with another Karen and it got confusing!! And since then I just kind of forgot about it and left it there ;)

Okay, all of that makes sense, but what exactly do I copy? If I copy the image, it wont let me paste?

Awesome! That did it. You're the best! ♥ Thanks and have a Happy Thanksgiving. ☺
Great! Oh thanks, but I'm in Australia so no thanksgiving here :) I hope you're having a great day though!

I guess this is the best place to ask, but do we know if there is going to be a TEAM Challenge starting in the next month or 2? I am trying to find one to kick start my reading And have fun *grin So I was just wondering what the plans were? Thanks!

Do books count if started before joining a CYOA challenge but finished after that date?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier! We don't have any exact plans yet, but you could always join the Around The World team challenge. this team has 2 spots available

Yes, that's fine

If the challenge doesn't have any rules about page lengths etc. then you can read whatever you like. Where there are restrictions, these will be in the challenge rules. For example, CYOA challenges have restrictions stated here
I hope that helps!

just put < spoiler > and < /spoiler > around the text you want to hide (without the spaces of course )

1. Does anyone keep a record of the progress, or do we do it ourselves?
2. I usually post what I´m reading on my instagram, would I be able to hashtag the name of the challenge? or is that considered plagiarism?
Thank you!

I want to use flamingtext.com but they ask me to use the website's address in my image like text. How do I do that?

Same question!!
Same question!!

I just joined the group and have a question. Do the challenges have a minimum page requirement?

Thank You. I am still trying to decide which challenge to start
Jenny wrote: "For Books of the Month, are re-reads allowed?"
As in, the group has already read the book as a BOM? In that case no.
If we had the book as a buddy read (not a BOM) then it can be nominated

my guess it was something like 'serial killer challenge', but I'm not sure.
There were about 5 or 6 different categories like 'Jack the pageripper' .
The thing is, at the moment I'm a bit lost in my massive kindle library and would like to start a challenge but I'm not quite sure which.
So I figured I'd do that one again, except I can't find it anymore anywhere.
My best guess it was in this group I found it in the first place.
Anyone an idea which one I'm talking about?
Otherwise any recommendations for challenges which are a bit more specific than the number of books you need to read because the problem is I have close to 900 kindle books and can't decide which one'll be next to read.

I don't know the one (but we do have a lot of challenges). Have you had a look at the reading challenge index? It may help you either find that or one that you like the look of :)
Index is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'm starting to wrap my head around it. I read the posts about creating a private group to keep track of everything, so I'm in the process of making that happen.
As of now, my main issue is I thought I'd joined a Scavenger Hunt challenge (first word: Affluently) but I can't find it on your list. Did I make it up? Can you provide a link?
Also, as a more general comment, one thing I'm having a lot of trouble with is knowing which of these challenges are current and which are long over. I don't know if GR gives any ways of sorting/marking. For instance, would putting current challenges under "Challenges" and leaving inactive under "Discussions" make any difference in how they push to Notifications or how the pages appear? With so many challenges "at your own pace" on top of the monthly and seasonal, I'm having trouble sorting through the master list. Would it be a lot of work to keep a list of the "current" challenges on the Group Home page? I don't want to add too much work to the piles of our hard-working moderators. (I can't fathom how you guys find the time. Bless you!)
Thanks for whatever you can do

Regarding which are the current challenges, how long have you been a member of NBRC? Since November 4? Because each month the mods send out a Newsletter and it lists the current challenges. So I'd recommend you check out the Newsletters for that info. Here's the folder for the Newsletters for you. :-)
(November's Newsletter was sent on the 4th, but usually the newsletters go out on the 1st of every month [though sometimes, like with November's, they're a few days "late")

Hey Allegra! Don’t stress! It can be overwhelming at first, but Jen is right, just find the ones that you think could be fun and have it.

All the CYOA challenges have Scavenger hunts if you find you like that. ;)

You could always just send a message to the mod account. We are always open to suggestions and input.

okay, thank you

I didn't see any discussions about minimum page requirement. If it is not explicitly stated in the challenge directions, is there a minimum page count?
Can I use the same book in multiple challenges?
Can I use the books I've read this month, or do I start from today?
Thank you.
