Sharon I have just joined the group and signed up for one of the challenges. I would like to create a reading list for myself with the challenges in. I noticed others have done this and have hyperlinked to the post within the challenge. How do you do this?

Sharon, try Hyperlink to a Specific Post under our GoodReads 101 folder. If you have any questions, let us know.

Kay Kay | 1794 comments Hi.
I have used goodreads now for a while and I love it. I have decided that this year I want to be more intentional about the BOMs and challenges. Is there one place on goodreads to keep track of all of your challenges? I feel like I am all over the place.

Karrie, you may certainly track all your challenges from various groups in our Member's Reading List folder. You may create a new one each year, or just have one long thread.

Also, another option for people who are in multiple groups (or not), is to create their own private group. Go to Groups on your menu and then click on Create a Group, as show by the red arrow on Screen #1 below.

Srishti Khanna | 4 comments hey everyone. i joined this group like a month ago. See as i am an 11th grader. Study time and tuition eats up more than half of my day. So i get little or not time to read a book. I used to finish up big thick novels in mere 2-3 days time during my earlier grades and oh i wish i could do it again. but oh well. Anyway i don't understand the deadlines on the challenges. can we do them whenever we want? and how do i see the new challenges that you have introduced. *feels hopeless* can anybody help me understand the group :(

Hi, Srishti! Welcome to NBRC.

We post all our new challenges in our monthly Newsletter that we send out - and post under our "Navigating the NBRC group" folder here. (There were a lot for January, since it is the first of the year.) Scroll down until you see:
NEW CHALLENGES
Also, they are divided into Monthly/Seasonal - with an Index - and regular Reading Challenges - also with an Index, which includes the time frame required.

Can i do a monthly challenge in another month. I know this question might seem weird. like for example i stumbled upon the valentine challenge bingo and oh i loved it. since i wasn't a part of the group then, i would love to do it now. Can i ?

Angell, could you be taking about:
All About You Challenge
      - "Yearly" - from Start Date.
However, there are actually 13 options listed; if you want to do them all.

All About You, Part Deux!
      - "Yearly" - from Start Date.

All About You, Part Trois!
      - "Yearly" - from Start Date.

However, the Mods are working on a gameboard type challenge that probably won't be as long in duration.

People occasionally post "late" to a reading group. (Some even do it months later.) You might not get as much back and forth dialogue as you would, but you'll probably get some.

Sorry, Sharon, but the polls for April BOMs closed at one minute after midnight on the 28th. Looks like you just missed it.

Polls usually open around the 14th or 15th of the month and end the last day (so you can't vote on that day).

Joanne Hello,

I am having trouble finding the kind of discussion I want. I would really like to have a discussion at different points during the book. I don't want to have the discussion be "I liked the book" or "I didn't like the book." I would like it to be more in depth. As I scroll down, a see a lot of spoilers. What do I do about this?

Hi Joanne. We have a few different types of Buddy reads as described HERE

I think you are looking for a "Buddy Read" not a relaxed or informal one. The Book of the Month are like this.

Margaret | 456 comments This isn't a question. But I didn't know where else to post this...

This group is awesome!!!!

I joined 2 days ago and the quality of the Reading Challenges and the organisation of the group is one of best I have seen so far in my Goodreads travels. It so easy to navigate and just dive straight into the challenges.

I am so pleased to have found you and will be recommending your group to anybody looking for a reading challenge group for sure!!

Love your work!

Rebecca, You may want to ask that question in the read it with me thread. You may be watching the movie, but I think it will serve the same purpose. Sorry for not seeing your question sooner. Link:

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Hallooo, there! Question... where's the best place (and honestly, would be great if its in this group, but if there's a special group for JUST recommendations, that would be fab, too... I couldn't find one) to ask for recommendations of a specific type of book that you're hunting for? Ideally, would be great if its the sorta place that gets traffic, so I get more recs. Thanks so much!

message 91: by Lisarenee (last edited Jul 25, 2014 04:21PM) (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Rachel have you tried the recommendations from Goodreads? 4 years ago we started a section for recommendations, but within a year or two Goodreads bought a sight that specialized in recommendations and most of the recommendation groups and what not disappeared. Since you have books on your shelf, you should have some recommendation by them. You can get to them by clicking on the word "Recommendations" tab at the top of the screen in the beige area. The goodreads logo is on the same line. If that doesn't help you, what types of books are you looking to read?

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Oh yeah, LOOOVE the recommendations, not only on the shelf, but also in the little slider on a specific book page (the 'Readers Also Enjoyed' slider). My 'to read' list is so long cause when I like a book, I add in all the stuff that looks good that's similar.

What I'm looking for now is something another girl got me thinking about. We both adored The Lives of the Mayfair Witches series by Anne Rice, and were looking for some more truly epic familial saga type books/series... ideally paranormal, gothic, or historical in flavor. Any ideas?

Marlleyy, sounds like snazzy cover art! I'd love to see it if anyone comes up with your title. If noone here can help, the 'What's The Name of That Book??? ' group here at GR just helped me solve one that's been driving me nutso for years. ;) Hope you get it figured out!

Can't think of one, but Rick Riordan's books come to mind. Do you remember if it was YA or Urban Fantasy or Fantasy?

So funny... A Discovery of Witches is one of the August reads for a GR group I'm in (let me know if anyone needs me to track down which group... off top of my head, I'm about 80% certain its 'Paranormal Kickass Chicks'). Its been in my 'to be read' pile for ages, and I keep hearing amazing buzz.. but there's like 3000 books in my to be reads, so haven't gotten to it in the past. But now its been bumped to my 'short stack read asap' list cause its a book group choice for this month. Yay. lol Looking forward to it immensely. ;)

message 98: by OddModicum Rachel (last edited Aug 30, 2014 02:23PM) (new)

OddModicum Rachel (oddmodicumrachel) | 126 comments Hi Gamble! Lots of people use library locally, or their digital library through their local service. That's why a lot of groups set up group read books a month in advance... so people can get on waiting lists for books. Others are fond of kindle unlimited. I definitely couldn't afford to buy each of the books I need for group/buddy reads, but you can often get lucky with discounts on used paperbacks or kindles at amazon, so I will, occasionally. ;) And worse case, occasionally I'll come across a group read reading something I'd love (one of my groups is doing the final Kim Harrison Hollows book this month, for instance), but because the book is so newly released, it's impossible to get at library (waiting list), and is only full price to purchase. In those situations, I just tell myself I'll read it when I can get hold of it, on my own, or set up a 'buddy read' when I have access to the book. There's TONS of group reads on Goodreads, so if you can't do one, chances are there's 10 others going on with books you're dying to read that you'd be able to join in. ;)

message 99: by Lára (last edited Oct 19, 2014 11:41AM) (new)

Lára uh, but I still don't get that "Novel Books" thing. What was wrong with previous name? It was saying everything. The new name is confusing.

And I feel like it`s not the same group with all the things going on atm.
