Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments I'm getting these from the library because my friends have recommended them. I know Divergent has romance, but I don't know how much, and I've heard that Ender's Game doesn't have any. Besides that I don't know anything, like the amount of violence, etc.

Cheri (sharebear) | 13 comments I have read Divergent, it is clean, a little violent, it as been awhile since I read it,; but I liked it and I liked the sequel too.

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments How much is a little violence, do you remember? The Hunger Games, for example, is too much in our house. Harry Potter or The City of Ember (not really any violence there, but it's a dystopian) on the other hand are fine.

Beth A. (bethalm) | 67 comments Ender's Game is one of my favorite books. That said, it does have some violence (a little more gruesome because it's child against child) and some swearing.

I would say Divergent has a little less violence than Hunger Games, and Ender's Game less in amount but with a stronger impact.

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments Okay, thanks! Ender's Game especially looks quite good, so I'm hoping I can read it. I find the books I want to read then my mother previews them for me to make sure they're clean, so I try to find books I can get excited about reading and not need to worry about not getting to read it. My mother's main issues with books are religious wierdness (so I can read Percy Jackson, for example, but my younger brother can't), violence, and romance. Even "clean" romance, if it's too front-and-center, she'll shelve. But I hope I can read these, because they look really good!

Sherri | 1 comments I thought Divergent was quite violent (characters kicking each other and fighting for training and sport). It didn't suit my taste at all. However, I read Hunger Games and didn't have a problem with the violence there because it felt necessary to tell the story. I think it really comes down to personal taste and judgement.

My review from last year:
"I really liked some aspects of this book, but it wasn't what I'd hoped it would be. I think I'd rate it a 2.5 to 3. This book did reaffirm to me that I dislike reading about really descriptive violence. For some reason the training and fighting sequences (where they fight one-on-one) bothered me even more than the violence in Hunger Games. The violence in Hunger Games seemed inevitable and integral to the story/world. I could deal with it. Whereas the violence in Divergent, at least in parts, just seemed senseless."

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments Yeah, I suppose it is personal taste. Well, we'll see, I suppose. I've heard good things from my friends but I think Divergent doesn't really sound like my kind of book.

Suzanne | 12 comments Divergent's pretty good. There was some violence, but it wasn't too graphic.

I recommend the Partials series by Dan Wells, it's excellent. So is the Legend series by Marie Lu. Both have some violence, but they're not too graphic, in my opinion.

I also love the Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi. There's some romance in that that your mom may object to, but I'd have her check it out.

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments Thanks! I'll add those to my list. The first two look really good, and the Veronia Rossi books seem interesting. I'm guessing my mom won't let me read them because of the romance, but I'll definitely try.

Rachel John (racheljohn) | 17 comments I haven't read Ender's Game. I did read Divergent. It does have some violence, but not more than Hunger Games. I didn't really like the book. I lost interest about 3/4 of the way through.

'becca | 1 comments I thought Ender's Game had a lot of swearing in it (for me). The sequels don't have as much swearing, but they have (while not as much, some traumatic violence.) Ender's Game is definitely a classic though. When I first finished it (I was high school age), I felt like it was amazingly well-written and that I was so exhausted mentally that I'd never read it again. Well, it wasn't so exhausting as an adult. :)

I thought the third book in the Hunger Games series was especially heavy on violence.

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 13 comments Okay. Hmm, well, we'll see I guess. I think the main problem with the Hunger Games is the fact that it's kids, and because there's no excuse for the violence other than the government said to (in the first one at least, I know that changes later). I'm hoping maybe if there's a better reason for the violence in those books maybe I can read them.

Tally | 3 comments our book club just finished Divergent and Insurgent. There's a lot of fighting in Divergent, but Insurgent is definitely worse. Not much on romance, though.

Faye | 1 comments Enders game is clean and less romantic than divergent. I think that divergent has more violence, but milder violence whereas Enders game has less violence, but in the violent parts ((3-4ish)) they're more hard going violence :) hope I helped
