Steven (gallifreyan1218) Yep! Any of our books can count anywhere that they qualify, and even if someone on our team who hasn't signed up for the 7% challenge reads a book that works, if we catch it we can apply it.

I figure each of us putting focus on a category would help us guarantee a finish and finish faster, but of course books past our categories will be applied to where they fit.

Plus this way we can plan easier, knowing where other people's foci would be and not wondering where we should start (or go next after finishing one).

Barb Yes, Evana, that's correct :)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I have a question Mr Steven....do Sheila & I need to use the books that are listed as BOM on the group site as of May or do we wait for the books to be determined for June/July before we may start & also is the start date June 1? Ive been a little discombobulated lately sorry....

message 54: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Yes, the start date is June 1. You can use any of the books of the month from the NBRC group and make sure you respond to the discussion questions!

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) thanks steven - also finished another book tonight....The Last Boyfriend...336 pages...

message 56: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Awesome! I'll add it to the scoreboard when I get to my computer in the morning :) nice work!

message 57: by Barb (new)

Barb Go Sallie ... and everybody else :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 240 comments Just a clarification on my category, No 6.

Can i read more that one book with say a flower on the cover or is it only one book of each sub category?

Moon on the cover - does it have to be a picture of a moon or does the word Moon in the title count?

Thanks Steven.

Lisa, you may read a flower bookcover, a green bookcover, a moon bookcover, a landmark/monument bookcover, any of the letters provided, etc. You can even repeat any of those 'sub-categories' as many times as you desire.

message 60: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) and Lisa, as far as I know, since the May Read-a-thon mini-challenge was a book with a moon on the cover, I believe it has to be in the picture to count!

Steven wrote: "I believe it has to be in the picture to count!"

You mean a photograph, as opposed to a drawing? Nah.

message 62: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) No, Lisa asked if it had to be on the cover or if it could have Moon in the title. :)

Moderators of NBRC | 1212 comments Mod
Ah! Got it.

message 64: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments I have been spying all morning and now have a list of 18 books for Behind Enemy Lines. Now I just need to go through them to fit them with all the other challenges I am doing.

Also, some of them were already in my TBR pile which helps.

message 65: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Awesome work, Jane! :D

I've been planning my Sevens for my category!!!

message 66: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I've created a thread for posting books.

BOOK POST THREAD

The new thread is ONLY for posting books, while THIS thread will remain here for discussions and questions, as well as for me to keep progress updates in their respective posts! I'll be adding the link to the top of this thread also.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 240 comments Thanks for the clarification, Steven. All ready to go.

message 68: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I'm kinda pumped now!

Because of the cupcakes, Steven?

message 70: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Well partially, but mainly because now that we've got it figured out and planning is commencing, it's just reading more. And yay reading! :)

message 71: by Barb (new)

Barb And if all goes according to plan, we'll add 49 more books to our team total -- or more :)

message 72: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Annoying! I think I saw somebody had read The Great Gatsby when I was spying yesterday but now I can't find who it was. Which means I can't put it on my list.

message 73: by Barb (new)

Barb oh boy, I'm pretty sure I saw it too, but I've already read it and I don't do re-reads, so I didn't make a note of whose shelf it was on :\

message 74: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments I also have more than 20 books for the challenge now, but it was a bit shorter than some and would have been Nice for that reason.

message 75: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) When I get back to the computer tonight, I'll help look for it :)

Hint: That book can be found on one of Electric Lime's team member's shelf.

message 77: by Barb (new)

Barb Aha! And Jane, her name starts with L :)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Question here once again. Sheila & I will be doing the Bom & buddy reads. How many of these do we do? 7?

message 79: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Thank you, I had been back looking on her shelf today but totally missed it.

I have now got a list of 26 books for Behind Enemy Lines and I (now) own 24 of these. I am sure I will do the challenge twice and then we will see where the rest of my reading will fit in.

I should read more than 14 books in 7 weeks even though I am moving from Greenland to Denmark in that time period.

message 80: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Sallie, between the two of you, we need 7. And remember we can use cupcakes to fill some of those slots if you don't find 7 between the two of you!

Jane, that's a big move! Is it by choice or is it work or what? Hopefully it'll be a good change!

Wow, Jane, that's a lot of reading even *without a move!

message 82: by Jane (last edited May 25, 2013 06:23PM) (new)

Jane | 206 comments The move is a choice, but luckily my husband already has a job to start when we get there.

I am Danish and after 7 years in Greenland I miss spending more time with my family. My husband is English so he will get closer to his family too.

Also luckily we don't have to do all the packing, a moving company will do that. But as we need to put our stuff in storage I am going to take all our bookshelves apart so they take up less space.

My last workday is next Friday so I hope to get a lot of reading done when I take breaks from taking stuff apart.

The moving company will come on the 19th of June so I will also be sitting in a empty house with nothing to do till the 26th when I have to start the cleaning

message 83: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Well good! That'll be good for both of you and all that free time will be good for Mango Tango too :) hehe

message 84: by Barb (new)

Barb A move IS a lot easier when someone else does the packing, but you still have to do all the UNpacking in the new place, and that can be time-consuming, trying to figure out what works best where. We used to move every 2-3 years, and I shudder at the thought of moving again LOL

message 85: by Karla (new)

Karla Planning my books. I want to make sure these are okay.

Crossing Stones by Helen Frost Crossing Stones by Helen Frost
A Bottle in the Gaza Sea by Valérie Zenatti A Bottle in the Gaza Sea by Valérie Zenatti

message 86: by Barb (new)

Barb Those covers look green to me, but I guess it would be up to the mods to say for sure?

message 87: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Based off of the posts I've seen regarding that category, those should work :)

Moderators of NBRC | 1212 comments Mod
Green to me, also, Karla.

message 89: by Karla (new)

Karla Great, thanks!
I already had them checked out from the library and didn't want to have to get a whole new set of books just to complete this challenge.

message 90: by Jane (last edited May 28, 2013 03:08PM) (new)

Jane | 206 comments @ Steven.

I just checked my list for BEL and I had been to the right shelves.

I still found one that I don't know how I got.

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronwitch I have down as read by Oo but as I can't see her bookshelf I have no idea why I think she has read it.

edit:
just found it - it is one of the 8 books she read according to post 273 in our main Mango Tango thread

Barb Jane wrote: "Rivers of London by Ben Aaronwitch I have down as read by Oo but as I can't see her bookshelf I have no idea why I think she has read it."

Yep, it's on her "read" shelf for this challenge. She started it on March 31, finished on April 19 :)

Jane, Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch is on ❀Oo❀;s first page of her "view books." She's already showing her second page.

message 93: by Jane (last edited May 29, 2013 05:39AM) (new)

Jane | 206 comments ❀Oo❀ bookshelf is private so I can't see it but as long as it is there, it is good.

Be assured, it is there. I triple checked. ☺

message 95: by Jane (last edited May 30, 2013 06:31AM) (new)

Jane | 206 comments My reading list for the first half of June is ready. It has 10 books and the 7 are for BEL. I think 2 of the others will fit the 7 part as they both have author surnames of 7 letters.
The last one - the first I am going to read, I am not sure fits anywhere but when I am finished I will post it on our main page and we can check it out.

All my BEL chosen books also fit into other challenges I am doing.

message 96: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Nice planning, Jane! :) I've been working out my Sevens books as well!

message 97: by Barb (new)

Barb I've divided up the letters required for task 5, the spelling option, so that they work with my challenges for my other main group. And every book for task 5 is doing at least double duty -- and usually more :) I'm excited to get started :)

message 98: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) ME TOO!

And I just realized (*face palm*) that DRACULA has 7 letters and The Hobbit or There and Back Again has 7 words, so two of the "buddy reads" I want to do are Sevens books! :D

message 99: by Jane (last edited May 30, 2013 07:47AM) (new)

Jane | 206 comments I hadn't concentrated on all the parts of the challenge so of course my first book will count for something.

Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson
Option 5 or 6: spell it out: S (for first word in title or surname) or N for first name

I think most books read should fit in somewhere if the option hasn't been filled completely.

message 100: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Just post finished books in the thread we set aside JUST for that and I'll figure out where they can go. We're trying to leave the spell it out ones just for Barb, because the letters can only count once for each time they show up in the phrase and we want her to be able to plan accordingly!
