30.8 - Peebee's task: A Summer Visit to the National Zoo
Sarah wrote: "Wondering if these people are close enough to water for option 3:
Thanks!"
Yes, approved. As long as both a person/animal and water are present on the cover, we'll call it "near" enough. Also a very good book!
Amy wrote: "Will this work for Option 1:
It is set in Thailand and the elephant appears to be carrying something on his back."
approved.
Sandra wrote: "Can I get Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity approved for Option #6? This book is on the 'Most Read this Week' list (May 22). Thanks!"approved.

Just FYI for everyone....it's not necessary from my perspective to get approval in advance for #6, as long as you include the relevant information for the moderators (date it appears or # on the list) when you post the task.

Will The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet work for option 3 (water and people) on cover? it is set in Japan
Will this work for option 1/Sloth Bears? A Lady Cyclist's Guide to Kashgar: A Novel
It was published on 6/4/12 and is set in India.

approved -- it's one I hope to read this challenge as well, as I've been meaning to get to it for a while.

It's been on my list since I heard the author on NPR. I hope it's good!

Thanks!
I want to verify that these will both work. Thank you.For option 2, clouded leopards, I want to read
. Scott is a former special forces soldier who was severely wounded in Afghanistan and goes to work as a personal bodyguard for a businesswoman in Iraq. (I will get the ebook approved)For option 3, fishing cats, I want to read
. It has men on the water on the cover, is set in Korea and about a search for elderly POWs from the Korean conflict who are still being held in North Korea.
For Option 4: Playing For Pizza - John Grisham? For Option 1: Mrs. Tuesday's Departure - Suzanne Elizabeth Anderson?

It appears both of these are set in Europe, not Asia, so not approved.
Hi PeebeeWould
work for Sloth Bears (Option 1)? It's set in Indonesia but the cover image isn't so clear. It looks as though the adult is carrying a pink backpack. I can try to verify this when I get the actual book. For my second book, I'd like to read Shark's Fin And Sichuan Pepper: A Sweet-Sour Memoir of Eating in China for Asian Small-Clawed Otters (Option 4).
Thanks for this task - I think it's so fun!

♥Robin ♥ wrote: "Will Never Fall Down work for Option 2?"Yes, war is one of the genres listed and it appears to be about the Killing Fields / Khmer Rouge conflict.

This book is really good, although intense at times because of the horrific nature of that war.
Fiona (Titch) wrote: "
for Option 2?
for Option 4?"Option 2 is approved.
Option 4....is that the right book? It's not set in Asia and it's only 49 pages, so I don't think it's eligible for the challenge, period, and definitely not this task. But I know that Goodreads goes wonky sometimes, so perhaps you meant to select something else?
Ty wrote: "so, to clarify... Asian authors not born in Asia are not considered "Asian" for this task?"If they're not born in Asia and the book is not set in Asia, then no.
Does this work for Option 4-Otters?
Japanese Farm Food
Author is American, but lives on a rural Japanese farm. The book is a combination of recipes and stories/memoirs about life on the farm and Japan's culture, landscape and food.

Approved.
Chris wrote: "Would The Bookseller of Kabul work for option 2?"Approved. The description references the Taliban soldiers, even though it's not shelved as "war."
Thanks. The effects of the war(s) as well as the politics are both important factors throughout the book.
This book lists WWII as a genre on its main page, but it actually takes place during the post war occupation in Tokyo. Does it make the cut for Option 2 or no?The Typist

I assume this book works for either Option 1 (people riding elephants) or Option 3 (people with elephants in the water). The book takes place in Myanmar (Burma)Life in the Valley of Death: The Fight to Save Tigers in a Land of Guns, Gold, and Greed by Alan Rabinowitz

It works for those 2 and also option 5, if it takes place in Burma. Approved for all 3.

Thank you so much!
Just wanted to check if Alif the Unseen fits the Asian requirement? The actual country it takes place in is not ever named, but it is very clear it takes place in the Middle East. Several real countries are named in the book, like Turkey and India, so it's not a fantasy land.

Sorry...
I'm thinking of using these 2 for this task:Option 3: a person or animal in or near water
I'm fairly sure that is water behind the lady in this cover:
Option 6:
by John Shors (set in VietNam; 3 people listed it as genreGenres > Cultural > Asia
as of June 27, it is on page 24 of that list.
If there is a problem, let me know! Thanks!
Well, I started
and decided it was not a novel I wanted to finish reading (I disliked the first-person narrator). I'll have to look about for another book to fit.
It's too bad that it's too late to change the task....to option 5 I could have added a choice about escape.Rusty, our male red panda, got out of his exhibit on the Asia Trail and was found outside Zoo grounds the next day. He appears to have recovered nicely from his adventure, however:

OK, approved. That's what it looked like but it was hard to tell given the small size of the cover.
