OK, approved. That's what it looked like but it was hard to tell given the small size of the cover.

Yes, approved. As long as both a person/animal and water are present on the cover, we'll call it "near" enough. Also a very good book!

Both are approved. I will adjust the language of the task to include a mention of a specific food item and not just the word "food" itself.

Just FYI for everyone....it's not necessary from my perspective to get approval in advance for #6, as long as you include the relevant information for the moderators (date it appears or # on the list) when you post the task.

Deanna (whodunitrdr) | 190 comments I want to verify that these will both work. Thank you.

For option 2, clouded leopards, I want to read Sands of Betrayal (Kilted Desire, #1) by A.B. McKinley . Scott is a former special forces soldier who was severely wounded in Afghanistan and goes to work as a personal bodyguard for a businesswoman in Iraq. (I will get the ebook approved)

For option 3, fishing cats, I want to read Thunder in the Morning Calm (Pacific Rim #1) by Don Brown . It has men on the water on the cover, is set in Korea and about a search for elderly POWs from the Korean conflict who are still being held in North Korea.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Will Never Fall Down work for Option 2?

message 72: by mstan (new)

mstan | 868 comments Hi Peebee
Would Not A Hazardous Sport by Nigel Barley work for Sloth Bears (Option 1)? It's set in Indonesia but the cover image isn't so clear. It looks as though the adult is carrying a pink backpack. I can try to verify this when I get the actual book.

For my second book, I'd like to read Shark's Fin And Sichuan Pepper: A Sweet-Sour Memoir of Eating in China for Asian Small-Clawed Otters (Option 4).

Thanks for this task - I think it's so fun!

It looks like a backpack to me too, (or at least something being carried on the person's back) so approved unless you get the book and it's clearly something that doesn't fit the criteria.....

This book is really good, although intense at times because of the horrific nature of that war.

Option 2 is approved.

Option 4....is that the right book? It's not set in Asia and it's only 49 pages, so I don't think it's eligible for the challenge, period, and definitely not this task. But I know that Goodreads goes wonky sometimes, so perhaps you meant to select something else?

Lindsey (_lindsey_) | 498 comments Just wanted to check if Alif the Unseen fits the Asian requirement? The actual country it takes place in is not ever named, but it is very clear it takes place in the Middle East. Several real countries are named in the book, like Turkey and India, so it's not a fantasy land.

Unfortunately, Alif the Unseen does not meet the Asian requirement and is listed at the top of the thread in books that do not qualify for this task, since the country itself is not specifically named.

Sorry...

message 97: by Deedee (last edited Jun 27, 2013 04:55PM) (new)

Deedee | 2352 comments I'm thinking of using these 2 for this task:
Option 3: a person or animal in or near water
I'm fairly sure that is water behind the lady in this cover:
All the Flowers in Shanghai by Duncan Jepson

Option 6:
Dragon House by John Shors by John Shors (set in VietNam; 3 people listed it as genre
Genres > Cultural > Asia
as of June 27, it is on page 24 of that list.

If there is a problem, let me know! Thanks!

message 98: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2352 comments Well, I started All the Flowers in Shanghai by Duncan Jepson and decided it was not a novel I wanted to finish reading (I disliked the first-person narrator). I'll have to look about for another book to fit.

message 99: by Peebee (new)

Peebee | 481 comments It's too bad that it's too late to change the task....to option 5 I could have added a choice about escape.

Rusty, our male red panda, got out of his exhibit on the Asia Trail and was found outside Zoo grounds the next day. He appears to have recovered nicely from his adventure, however:
