SOLVED -- novels set in south-maybe islands in NC? [s]

There was a series of books that I read a few years ago and it seems like most of them were set in the South. I think that books were named after the locations? They were all by the same author, but had different characters. For some reason, I thought it was Joyce Carol Oates, but it wasn't. But that does make me think it's an author with three names maybe?

How about Dorthea Benton Frank? Was one of them Isle of Palms? My grandmother passed this one to me when she finished it last year and I haven't read the others, but I know there are several and all set in various Southern towns.

Anne Rivers Siddons writes about the islands around North and South Carolina too. Some of her titles are "Up Island" "Low Country" and "Outer Banks"
