This book is about a community, kind of like the one from The Giver, but in which everyone is blind. The main character, the boy, starts to gain the ability to see. He does not tell anyone his secret and continues to develop his sight.
(view spoiler)[ One day, the boy notices one of the farmers(?) is passed out in the fields and a vehicle is about to run him over. He goes and presses the alarm necklace the man's wearing and the man is saved. The story ends with the boy meeting an elder (or someone of importance) and realizes that that man can also see. He runs away from his community to find a girl that left the community, and that's where the book ends. (hide spoiler)]
I read this book in middle school, the same year I read The Giver.
