They were making progress when they suddenly heard a cry for help. Apparently, they all had the same idea of rushing over to the edge of the raili.g ti see what the commotion was about, and they all let go at the same time. No sooner than they realised that the rope and net was disappearing into the sea as thwy were nobdy anchoring the rope. At the last possible.moment, Arthur leapt for the rope and was rewarded with him diving head first into the sea, the rope still in hand.
Maya groaned, trying to get out of the ropes she was entwined in. She struggled and struggled, but it was no use. There were several cuts in her tail and on her arms. It was so painful. Best of it was, she couldn't heal herself. She suddenly heard a splash and looked up, seeing a... pirate? She winced.
Arthur was pulled around the waters as whatever they vaught was struggling for freedom. He could barely hear his crew's ylls as water rushed around him. After about a minute, he couldn't take whatever was im the met, and let it go as he tried to go up for air. With bleeding fimgers, he tried to swim the surface only to realise his leg was vaugt in a knot by the end of the net.
Maya blinked at the scene in front of her. She was frozen.for a moment, but then remembered. Humans can't breathe underwater. Her eyes widened as she realized and then.she did something, probably stupid. She couldn't help herself, but she could help him. She reached for his leg, which was stuck in the net, and unloosened it, so he was able to go up. But she touched the skin by his leg briefly and healed the wound instantly.
His hesd was already buzzing slightly. He couldn't think as the pounding in his head got stronger and stronger. He thought he was well of the erath and entering the death realm when suddenly something freed his leg. Before he knew what was happening, he broke the surface and gulped for air, paddling to the life-float bobbing nearby. He reached it and thanked the heavens that he made it out of there alive.
They were pulling him back to the boat when realisation struck him. Something was in the waters, and it definitely wasn't any sea animal he have experience with. Something actually got him free, something that had intellegence and kindness. A dolphin? No, a dolphin couldn't have cut him free, even as they're willingness to help human beings was well known. Curiousity got the better of him, and before he knew it, he was diving back into the water, seeking for whatever creature that saved his life while ignoring the faint cries of protests and strings of curses coming from the ship.

Maya watched him go and sighed. What was she going to do now? She was still stuck in this stupid net. She looked at the places her tail was stuck in but soon gave up, it was way too complicated to figure out. This was it then? Would she get eaten? Sold? When a splash hit the water, she looked up and saw the pirate she cut loose earlier. She frowned. What was he doing? He should be out of the water. Not in it. She gritted her teeth at the pain in her tail. She was losing a lot of blood and it made her dizzy.
From the moment he suerged in the water, he thought he was already dead or was drowning and hallucinating. There, before his eyes, was a myth and legend. It was a mermaid.
He slapped and pinched himself underwater, but the two dimensional image of a struggling mermaid didn't disappear. It took some time for him to realise the mermaid was staring right back at him.
Somehow only then he notived the mermaid losing blood, fast. It was as of reality came crashing back to him at that one moment, and his sense of logic quickly retutned along with it. He quickly swam back up to the surface, commandin his men to pull him and the net up as fast as possible. If the mermaid saved his life, he was going to save her's back.

Maya saw black spots in her vision as she lost more blood. What was she going to do? She was going to pass out. She moved her tail and let out a whimper, seeing more black spots as a sharp pain ran through her. She closed her eyes and thn felt the water move. He was gone? Where did he go? She bit her lip, it hurt so much. Then suddenly, she felt the net.. move?
Arthur was hauled up soon enough, but the mermaid seemed to weigh a tank. With much struggling and groaning, they were able to heave the creature from the sea, with a trail of blood in it's wake.
His men were frozen inplace by both shock and disbelief. They couldn't even blink their eyes as they captured the beauty of a creature only real in fantasy stories. But it wasn't time to marvel at her; they sure as hell needed to keep her alive.
"Ahoi! Cut the net! You heard me! Move move!" he yelled, startling most of his crew out of their daze.

Maya gasped as she was up the surface, the sunlight too bright for her eyes. She closed them, and felt like she couldn't hold them open anyway; she was so dizzy and in so much pain. She opened her eyes for a split second and saw the pirates staring at her in disbelief. Yup. She was really there. Not that she was going to survive with the amount of blood she was losing. "H-Help," she struggled out, groaning a little. Oh please, just kill me or help me, she thought before she was on the edge of passing out. She struggled to stay awake.
They huriedly went about their business. The tough ones cutting he net up and some with medical experience went to grab some medical equipment.
Arthur went right up to her struggling body and squatted down. "Stop struggling!" he commanded. "Just breathe... wait, can you breathe on land?!" he asked as terror and worry creased his brow.

"Yes I can, idiot," she murmured under her breath, smirking weakly. Her eyes were still closed but she liked taunting and messing with people. She groaned at the pain in her tail... wait... legs? Once she had reached the surface and dried up, her tail had turned into two legs, which were full of wounds and cuts. "It hurts," she murmured.
"Good, moron," he retorted. "We'll figure out a way to..." he paused in mid-sentence as his eye twitched. "Your l-legs," he stuttered as he stared in disbelief.
His men seemed to notice, too, but they barely slowed their progress. The medical-experienced crew members burst out of one of the many doors, and their mouths fell ajar as they tried to figure out if they were hallucinating.

She smiled a little as he called her a moron. She had definitely met her equal. She slumped back on the ground, her breathing coming in soft pants now. "Legs..." she trailed off dazed. "No water means legs," she explained weakly, as if to a kid. She opened her eyes and met his for a short moment before hers closed again and she passed out.
He oprned to his mouth to say something, but she was already out like a light. He quickly stood up and pointed at one of the temporary medics. "You! Fix her up quick! We don't know how vulnerable this creature is! You!" he pointed to another fella. "Get me a towel, now!"
Jason, the medic, nodded and went quickly to her side. He cleaned her wounds and cuts and then bandaged her up. It looked like she wouldn't be able to walk for a while. The other had already grabbed a towel.
Arthur quickly wrapped the towel around her body as soon as the towel reached his hands, leaving the injured leg exposed to the care of Jason. The other men were already grumbling about needing to repair the net. Not to mention the whining about needing to scrub the blood off the wooden floor.
Jason took care of her leg and bandaged it carefully. He noticed she had the most cuts around her knee and that would hurt if she had to walk. "She needs rest, take her to your room, well, I suggest that you do, captain," he glanced at Arthur.
He shot him a glance, questioning his real motive for suggesting such a thing. He looked at the rest of his crew members, but they were suddenly taking interest in their shoes. "Fine," he relented. "Alright, back to repairig the net! Sail south of here, will you, Anderson?" He didn't wait for a reply before lifting the currently-human off the floor and towards his grand room.
Maya stirred and woke up for a second as she felt arms lifting her up. "Where are we going?" She murmured groggily, opening her eyes an looking at the pirate from earlier. She wondered what he was doing and what was going to happen to her. What will they do? They did help her survive... her leg still hurt like hell but...
"To heaven!" he replied with a voice a few octaves lower than his usual, with only a hint of sarcasm. "You have died on the ship Optimus Maximus, and now you shall be awarded your fate of afterlife!" he continued to boom, as if he was the judge for the Gate of Heavens.
She grinned weakly. "I never imagined God to look like you, or are you an angel?" She mumbled into his chest, closing her eyes again. "You don't look like an angel, more like a demon," she teased, slumping back into his arms with a yawn.
He gave her a stern look. "Now, Papa don't appreaciate being called an unholy creature." He reached his room and opened the door, revealing a very much office-like bedroom. (I don't wanna bore you with the interior =P))
She would've rolled her eyes if she could open them again. "Unholy," she muttered under her breath. "Who are you anyway, a priest?" She mumbled with a slight smirk, teasing him. She still felt weak, but she still was able to talk, for now. ((Its okay lol))
He looked down at her with his own smirk. "I am Leader of No One Republic, Master of Nothing, Best in Pathethicness, Spades of Hopelessness, Ace of Uselessness and ... " hr paused as he pretended tobseem thoughtful. "Wait, I forgotten my last title!"
"Holy?"she finished for him, smirking a little more. She sighed and then slumped back in his arms. "My leg hurts, can't you fix it with your holy powers?" she asked him with a yawn. "Leg, tail, whatever, it just hurts," she mumbled, more to herself. It was strange to her but she had heard stories before. You would shift into a human when you were out of water's reach.
He was gently placing her on his bed when revelation came crashing down on the very word 'tail'. He dropped her suddenly and took a few steps back, his breath quickening as his eyes widened with bewilderment once again. "I-I..." was all Arthur could stutter out.
She groaned as he dropped her and let out a quick breath. "Oh god, can't you be careful?" she asked, frowning at him after she had opened her eyes. She couldn't believe that he had dropped her when she was injured. "What's wrong?" she sighed. Tail? Only that word? Well, she was a mermaid so... it was perfectly normal to her.
He shok his head to get the uneasy feeling off him. All it did was make his eye twitch as he thought again and again of the reality. He gazed back at her before clearing his throat and looking away, pointing to her towel that was then only covering her waist down.
"Oh," she blushed a little, but not as much as a human would've. She was kinda used to... well... forget it. She pulled the towel up, making sure it covered her chest; while her hair was long enough to do as well. "Tell me then," she muttered, gazing at him in confusion.
"Tell you what?" he asked, more like squeak at the last word. He shuffled his fey nervously as he adjusted his pants. His eyes were darting all over, not daring to believe this girl was indeed a mermaid.
"Why did you freak out just a moment ago?" she chuckled, looking at him as he adjusted his pants. Her eyes widened and she grinned. So she had that effect on him huh? That amused her. Well, Cole would probably be bemused but the thought came and past. She wasn't going back any time soon.
"Because," he sighed in defeat."I-I still don't believe you exist." The mere thougt made him stutter like a fool. He frowned a questioning brow upon her. "Aren't you qorried sick abot what's going to happen to you?" he asked.
She bit her lip. "Kinda," she said in a small voice. "But why would you have saved me if you... well, why would you help me?" she asked him, sitting up on his bed, slowly, not wanting to hurt her leg.
He winced as he look at her leg. Or rather, winced at his blood-soaked mattress. "Because you saved me, and I felt bound to save you back. Well, at least I think it was you," he muttered. "Look," he said. "I still don't know what you are, who you are and where you came from. So..." he trailed off, giving her a knowing look.
"Well, if you're going to kill me, do it now please," she sighed, slumping back in the pillows. "I would rather have a clean stab then slowly dying of blood loss," she trailed off, feeling dizzy again.
He shook his head. "It just isn't worth the effort to cut a net, use medical supplies on you and let your blood soak into my mattress and suddenly killing you," he explained. "Plus," he added quickly. "I want to know more about your specimen and if their any good in taste," he teased.
Maya nodded at his first words. That seemed logical. She gave him a soft chuckle at his last words. "Know more? I don't know if I'm allowed to do that. Something like this has never happened before ."
He scowled at her. "It has. It definitely has. How else do we know mermaids even as a legend?" he countered. Was she trying to persuade him and keep his mind off the track? That remained a mystery to him. "I'm determined to be more knowledgable towards specimen like you."
Maya shook her head at him. "That's not what I meant. For our people, it has never happened. For my colony," she told him, biting her lip. She didn't know why she said it, but she felt an urge to explain this to him.
