Pouria (paganmoon) | 37 comments Revelation Space would work also, but only so I could spew how much I disliked the book in the discussions :D

Bethany | 1 comments I vote for the new Robert Sawyer book Red Planet Blues (or anything by him really). It would also be cool to do a Jules Verne (I saw 20 000 leagues under the sea on the list) My third choice would be Uglies by Scott Westerfield since that's been on my to-read list for a long time.

Tamahome | 7216 comments Uglies is YA but it does have hoverboards.

message 54: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments I would vote for Red Mars because it is Kim's best known book.

message 55: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7216 comments Red Mars was looong. At least it seemed that way in audio.

I lemmed Red Mars, but I want to give it a second chance.

Tamahome | 7216 comments On Coode St they say Antarctica has the same themes but does it in one book instead of 3 mars books.

Katie (calenmir) | 211 comments I'm all for Ringworld since I've been meaning to read it forever and my Dad is so horrified that I haven't he's about to mail me his copy (my podunk library has ZERO Niven). I have read Niven's Fallen Angels and that is fun and stand alone, has to do with SF fans. :)

T. Scott (stormingthecastle) | 13 comments Ringworld by Larry Niven is my vote again. Wool was a stellar pick by the way!

Phil (phil_rozelle_oz) | 34 comments +1 for Great North Road

message 61: by D. H. (new)

D. H. | 100 comments I vote for 2312.

message 62: by Sean (new)

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments There's lots of support for an Alastair Reynolds novel but no consensus on what it should be. Maybe Tom should put him on the poll and select the book he most wants to read.

Casey (casey_readingsomebooks) | 20 comments Me too for 2312...have heard so much hype about this book

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments If the group wants to read a book by Peter F. Hamilton, I would suggest his first book: Mindstar Rising, which I think is underrated, and no one ever discuss anything about it. Plus it is one of his shorter works.

message 65: by Leesa (new)

Leesa (leesalogic) | 675 comments Orion, Ben Bova
Altered Carbon, Richard K. Morgan
Shards of Honour, Lois McMaster Bujold

message 66: by Phil (new)

Phil (phil_rozelle_oz) | 34 comments Good suggestion Kevin, The Mindstar Rising trilogy is one of my favourites and how I first found Peter Hamilton.

message 67: by John (new)

John I added Swarm by B.V. Larson ,space scifi but not so hardcore as to dissuade average readers from reading it,

"Kyle Riggs is snatched by an alien spacecraft sometime after midnight. The ship is testing everyone it catches and murdering the weak. The good news is that Kyle keeps passing tests and staying alive. The bad news is the aliens who sent this ship are the nicest ones out there...."

I am about to make the poll. The first three books from the Listopia will go on and then three books selected from this thread. They may not have been mentioned mathematically the most times but nothing really had overwhelming support so I just made them stuff that looked interesting to me and sounded interesting to you.

That said, if you don't think we should read from an author we've read before then don't vote for that one but DO vote for another one. Whole point of voting you see, is you get to affect the outcome. Watch for poll shortly!

Not a sufficient sample size.

Heh. Well played!

Ryan (ryanallenlane) | 3 comments I originally voted for Snow Crash but I changed to Do Androids Dream when I saw it losing to Redshirts (we already read a John Scalzi book this year). All look good though.
