Susinok | 5205 comments It's not my feed that I'm looking at. When you go to a book, the first reviews you see are from your friends. Below that is everyone else's reviews.

I grew up with constant criticism and negativity and many, many times it rubs me just wrong. I'm plenty critical myself, but I don't feel the need to share that with everyone. :)

ttg | 305 comments For those who follow the Jamie Brodie Mysteries by Meg Perry, book 4, Researched to Death, is now out at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Researched-Deat...

I just grabbed it, and hope to read it soon. (I have my Team Bingo book of The Auspicious Troubles of Chance to read first...)

I've been reading a few B.G. Thomas books lately and i'm enjoying them, there's something good and sweet about them, with a dash of angst, but light too, and sometimes cute or funny.

Gotcha, on the review groupings. Yea, some people spend way too much time on their reviews, and it gets too intense. I don't have any gif obsessed people in my line of reference, so I am lucky that way. Most of the people in my line are joy readers, not serious reviewers. 8)

Just started reading The Hot Floor. Been itching to read it since it came out and even though I've been wanting to stay away from sex fests lately, so far I'm really enjoying this one. I feel for the MC, Josh, and am also glad I'm not a guy. :-)

Ame | 1744 comments I just finished Superhero by Eli Easton, the third one I've read by her and she is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. Her writing style is so good and really appeals to me. I guess I have to start looking into more books by her.

BTW Allromancebooks now have the feature that allows you to send books straight to your Kindle. Yes.... it's the little things that make me happy ;)

I enjoyed Superhero quite a lot, too. Eli's a consistent writer. I've liked all the stories I've read by her.

Lillian Francis (lillian_francis) | 333 comments I've just finished Fish and Ghosts. Really enjoyed it. The whole ghostly storyline kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm hoping it will be the first of a series.
In the meantime I've got several of Rhys Ford's books in my to be read pile. Time to dust them off I think.

Thank you for recommending Julie Bozza's Butterfly Hunter here on this thread (and in UK Meet last summer). I loved it and it's always extra special to find a new-to-me author whose ALL books I'm now really looking forward to read! In fact I'm already in the middle of the sequel Of Dreams and Ceremonies. :-)

By the way, you all said that Butterfly Hunter is a lovely, beautiful story, but how come you forgot to mention that it's also sexy as hell! Sweet and sexy — oh yeah... ;-)

Aleksandr Voinov (vashtan) Working on it. In fact, I just loaded up on carbs and coffee to work for the next, uhm, eight hours or so on it. (Have to get up early tomorrow for my job-redundancy-related coaching session at 9:00 in Central London though. Bah! I have my best ideas when I'm semi-coherent from lack of sleep.)

It's a lovely book. I enjoyed it so much. I gather there is to be a third one, so that's good news. :)

message 3368: by Aleksandr (new)

Aleksandr Voinov (vashtan) Thank you. :) Yes, there will be a third one - it's the thing I'm currently breaking my head against. (All for the good of the reader, so all worth it, but godsdamnit, it's a struggle.) I'd be super-grateful for a short review on Amazon from anybody who's read it (doesn't have to be a positive review - just a review would be amazing.)

Just started Barging in the other day and I'm LOVING it so far. I'm feeling a bit of guilt because I've been hanging on to this book for a few years now, I think, and still haven't read it. I'm so glad to finally be getting around to reading Jo's amazing books! YAY!

The sequel will be next and then getting back to Dave Brandstetter I think.

And collecting a lot of good weeded YA novels/series from the library as I go through the collections and get our numbers down to what management wants them to be before we move to our new space next year. I'm feeling some guilt at doing this, but there's not much I can do but collect the books I've been wanting to read, but haven't gotten to yet.

lol, yes, that is a fantastic series! I was super lucky one year I went to the Rainbow Book Fair and MLR press was giving them away. I only had to buy one of the books. I was in utter shock. And really glad I enjoyed them!

They weren't there last year, but I hope they will be this year. Not like I need more print books or anything...

Destroyer of Worlds - if you guys aren't reading this series, you are SO missing out. Crazy exciting, crazy romantic, just really fabulous and a whole new twist on the vampire thing (WAY better than the sparkle twist, trust me!)

I had Widdershins as an audio book and loved it. Haven't looked into a sequel yet, but the first book makes for a good standalone in my opinion. There are no cliffhangers at the end, if that matters to any of you.

message 3395: by [deleted user] (new)

Widdershins didn't HAVE to have sequels, but they are an amazing addition :) I'm just so crazy in love with Jordan L. Hawk at this point I can't recommend her books highly enough.

Totally agree. The Widdershins and SPECTR series are both excellent, and she plans long term, so they're going somewhere, not just spinning out. Her standalone Hainted is also a good paranormal.

I finished Bermuda Heat (L.A., #5) by P.A. Brown a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I wish there were more books in that series. I always feel bereft when I come to the end of a good series. I am reading A Deadly Kind of Love (Deadly Mystery, #6) by Victor J. Banis which is the last in the Tom/Stanley detective series by Victor J. Banis. I have really enjoyed this series.

Not having to work at the moment has given me so much time to read and although I am also job hunting it is so nice to be able to read as much as I want to. I recently finished Tricks by Rick R. Reed by Rick R. Reed. This is a romance but it also has a kind of dark feel to it, very different to some of his recent stories. It does have a happy ending and it is also low angst, so quite clever in the way in which it managed to be a bit tense in places. I am going to read the sequel once I finish The Lodestar of Ys by Amy Rae Durreson

And about Widdershins — that one I actually have on audio already! I think it was Jordan who was listening to that maybe a month ago and I bought it based on her recommendation. :-) I haven't had a chance to start listening to it yet, though, because I'm having a serious Adrien and Jake phase right now. ;-)

Valerie (valerie_c) | 1519 comments I just finished Shaking the Sugar Tree by Nick Wilgus and it was absolutely wonderful. So, so good. Best book I've read in a long time. Funny and sad, but not overly angsty, and very Southern.

“I don’t think I want to visit your house anymore.”
“Sometimes neither do I.”
“And your grandfather….”
“Leave my Papaw alone.”
“He’s crazy.”
“We don’t hide crazy,” I said. “We put it on the porch and let it entertain the neighbors.”
