What Are you Reading?

The first three are at the top of my tbr list :-)
Loved the Emily Tesh novella as well. The sequel is coming in June.

CB Lewis's stories are wonderful! Also really loved by her: Patron and Private Truths.

I also meant to put down that all of Josh's books were top choices for me, but I figured you guys already knew that. ;-)

I'm thinking that might happen with me too, now that I've gotten back into them. Though I might space them out one a month, but it won't be one a year like my other series!

What Jordan said, even though sometimes I'm almost glad I forgot about a book I wanted to buy, because one of my good resolutions for the new year is to read some of the books on paper I already own...

A favourite! I should have added Time Taken (book 3) and Time Turns (book 4) to my list for this year! I love this series. It's so smart. One more to go, which should be out later this month!

I love this series. My plan had been to space them out, but I devoured all five books in less than a month. DEVOURED!"
I'm looking forward to re-reading this series. I started reading it when the second book came out, so it was a long wait until the big finale. One of my favourite series.
The third book in Anna Butler's Lancaster's Luck series will be out soon, which I am looking forward to--The God's Eye.

I know! Over the last year I've really trying to read the books that have been on my Kindle for years and years. I haven't made too much progress, because of all the exciting new books that keep coming out, but it's an on-going effort and there are small gains. Because of all the moving around I've been doing for so many years, I didn't really allow myself to buy paper books, but now I have a house and I get to buy paper books again! I've already indulged. I don't have any bookcases yet, but that's a project for this year.

Luckily I started right after the final book, so no waiting.
And I already have The God's Eye on preorder. Can't wait!
And yeah, I really want to do a reread of Taking Shield.

High five, Haldis! I've had that pre-order page up for like a week now. I just need to click it.
I still haven't finished the Taking Shield prequel, so I need to work on that, too. It's so grim. Have you read it?

No, I haven't gotten the prequel yet. On my TBR though.

I remember seeing recently that someone had succeeded in their challenge to read all of the books they bought in 2016 last year. Someone I know liked their status update, and I thought, wow, that's a great idea! I used to keep track, with postit notes, when I acquired print books, but didn't do it consistently and then gave up. Now I want to do it again. But to have a GR shelf for it, would be crazy, where I could include the ebooks and whatnot. Then again, I think that might be overkill. I do like to plot and plan my reading too much already.

Made me think of two other ghost tour m/m stories that enjoyed:
Badlands by Morgan Brice
The Amazing Blue Billings by Lily Morton
Any other good ghost tour specific options?
I can think of several other professional ghost or spirit workers specific mm (Psycops, Tyack and Frane by Harper Fox, etc), but I feel like I have forgotten another book w/ghost tours specific theme.
These are the things I muse on for the new year :)
There was a ghosting hunting team series that was sorta popular years ago, I think. Not ghost tours though, and I can’t remember the name of it.
For those of you who are making your way currently through Anna Butler’s sci-fi series, Taking Shield, that starts with Gyrfalcon, or who want to give it a reread and need people to yell about Joss with, I have resurrected our archived BOM thread. This thread is for the whole series now, and there will be spoilers. But please, do join our discussion!
I have just finished book two, and have lots of feelings that some of us have been discussing in my review thread, and will start book three, maybe next month.

Are you thinking of Rhys Ford's Hellsinger Series? It was a good series. I think she had meant to write more than the two and half books, but so many books to write :)

Thanks, Jordan! Let's yell about Joss! :)

Yes. let's!!!

Gods, now I'm afraid to go on....
But, yeah, corrupt town storylines are one of my least favorite, and I'm not a fan of violence.... I'll space the books out a bit...

- Gilded Cage - loved it! awesome in every way.
- The Rat-Catcher's Daughter - felt more like a coda/filler, but still good.
- Band Sinister - adoring it! I have a couple more chapters, and i'm at the point where I have to know what happens, but also don't want it to be over...
I was reading Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch, but as one reviewer put it, it’s got a crazy spaghetti plot. I need to put it down for now. It’s also been a long time since I read book six, and that’s affecting things too. But I hear it ends the main plot so I do want to come back to it soon. Might be where I end this series though.
In the meantime, I’ve started The Long Call by Ann Cleeves. I loved her sweet author’s note at the beginning. I always assumed she was some remote person the way her books are, so I’m glad to see she’s not. Lol.

I'm looking at these lists with envy--I just bought the Cat Sebastian book based on the continuing great recs!--I really want to make 2020 a reading year.

My reading of books went way down in 2019... though I think that's mostly to do with the fact that my reading of fanfiction went way up. lol.
I'm hoping to read more books again, in 2020. :-)

Yes, I can easily see how Matthew is on the Autistic spectrum. It's quite obvious. Also, I'm having a hard time putting this book down. It's a long one, but I'm sucked in and I love Matthew very much already.

Then I went on reading, and I realised that I couldn't bear not to know what would happen, and I started jumping forward. Which I admit is a stupid thing to do, but I did it. Anyway I switched off the light at 5 o'clock in the morning... Now I'm going to read properly.

I am wearing a shirt today I got for Christmas. It says:
I say I have insomnia, but all I really have is a good book & a lack of respect for tomorrow. You can borrow it :)

LOL! Thank you, dear Loretta. You are very generous!

I'm three chapters into Orientation by Gregory Ashe and really enjoying it. I'll save the rest of my comments for the actual book discussion thread.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is super amazing! Bi Mexican-American MC. Super amazing!
There's also Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell, but it's a book two that doesn't stand alone and, if I remember correctly, Simon Snow doesn't ever actually identify on-page as bi in book one or book two. I'm not sure if that counts for what you're looking for or not.
Mason Deaver's I Wish You All the Best has a non-binary bi MC. It's a good book, but it's kind of depressing.
There's also How Not to Ask a Boy to Prom by SJ Goslee, with a bi Jewish MC. Super cute, lighthearted YA fluff.
***
The only super awesome trans romance novel I've read from 2019 is Time Turns by C.B. Lewis, but that's book four in a series and does not stand alone.
Also, KJ Charles' The Rat-Catcher's Daughter is an amazing ace romance with a trans MC, but it's more of a long short story, though it does stand alone.
And that's all I've got. Hope it helps.

Thank you! This is great!

Also reading Michael Ryan Webb's How We Love. Heartfelt, and surprisingly not as sad as i thought it might be; it starts with the MCs at a low point in their lives, and seems to get better from there, with ups and downs. Love the writing. The author only has one other book, which was also excellent - We All Die Trying To Get It Right - but have tissues at the ready.

Loved this series, though I did find the final book a bit of a letdown. I think because the expectations were so high, and then the resolution was a bit too convenient and the book seemed to meander some.
