I'd probably categorize them as traditional. They're missing most of the tropes (i.e. selling points) of cozy, but they are solid mysteries and refreshingly devoid of sex.

And when I say "refreshingly devoid of sex" this is not a reflection on those who like a lot of sex in their m/m just that I personally am done with sex in m/m novels.

So many new faces out there! And so many people I can't wait to meet. And so many people I only know from an occasional FB post and never bothered to really check out. It's fascinating!

Just finished The Gilded Scarab by Anna Butler. Steampunk, set in approximately 1900s alt.london. First person POV, following ex-army pilot and self proclaimed vagabond as he adjusts to civilian life. Mystery, mm romance, Egyptology, coffeemaking, some worldbuilding within framework of British Imperialism and filthy, busy,crowded, loud and seriously smoggy Londoninium.trigger warning (for those forsaking mm sex scenes :p) there are detailed mm sex scenes. But there is a lot of other story going on.

For those of you who enjoyed the excellent spy/action thriller Where Death Meets the Devil, by L.J. Hayward, there are now two novellas out. The first is sort of a montage epilogue, and the second includes two short stories about the developing relationship (with some spy stuff too). Short but recommended!

Read Cordelia Kingsbridge's Cash Plays. So good! Can't wait for the next book in the series, which should be out in about a week.

It normally wouldn't be a problem, but since I have company for the Labor Day weekend I haven't been reading as much as usual (and, to my horror, I forgot to do a Times crossword puzzle, thus ruining my 95-day solve streak).

Oooh, I love Scrap Metal. I think it's probably my favorite Harper Fox.
That's still a very nice streak. I was thinking lately that I should try crossword puzzles, so this morning I ordered some of Will Shortz' very easy ones to start with. :-) I usually do Sudokus.

Finished this one last night, and wow, that was a ride... luckily we don't have to wait that long for the next one.

I finished Scrap Metal with three hours to spare; now I have 44 hours to read Cash Plays, then on to Gyrfalcon for the September read.
Armistice, sequel to Amberlough by Lara Elena Donnelly, is awesome so far! I'm about halfway through and I love it. I think it's even more engaging that the first one. What is going to happen!?!??!?

Oh wow, that's exciting!
It is not m/m or a romance at all, so off topic,but I really would like to recommend Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows that I have just finished listening to. It was recommended by KJ Charles, whose books I adore and who recommends a lot of good books by a very diverse set of authors.Well written, and a story set in an environment I knew nothing about, a Sikh community in London. It tackles a lot of important issues and could not have been written by anybody else than a woman from the same culture. There is a love story of sorts, but mostly a celebration of women and their strenght. And yes, erotic stories as told by Punjabi widows. Lovely.
I finished Armistice this morning and it's so great. Really gripping stuff. I am so excited for the third book, but it doesn't come out until the middle of next year.

I've not read this, but for work, I recall coming across it and possibly recommending it too. I'm glad you enjoyed it, it looks really good!
The Mystery of the Moving Image by C.S. Poe came out today. Third in the Winter and Snow series. Snow continues with sleuthing through danger. I enjoyed this one. The relationship between Winter and Snow is settling in and making better sense to me.

Damn. I looked for it on Audible--I've returned to "reading" for GRL, but I'm doing it with audio books--no go.
It does sound like a lot of what I enjoy, and I'm quite adept at skimming the de rigueur sex scenes.

Currently reading Murder and Mayhem by Rhys Ford. I haven't read Rhys for quite a while and I think she has really upped her writing game. I know it's not a new title, but like I said, it's been awhile. Anyway, I'm impressed!

I'm a fan of sex, but I don't need to be inundated by it. It's just one of the many things I love about those books. I took two solid weeks to binge read all 16 of them. I've gone back and started a slow, leisurely re-read.
I listened to 'Between Saints and Sinners' by Marie Sexton last week. I was surprised at how much it resonated with me. One main character was a victim of sexual abuse as a child and the other struggled growing up gay in a Mormon home. I grew up gay in an evangelical home in a small town and I could relate to the struggle. Both by the gay character as well as his family. I thought Marie handled the religion issue very deftly. It was NOT judgmental, high-handed or preachy.

No m/m mysteries on the list. Weird list, really, a couple handfuls I agree with and many I really wouldn't recommend. Well, I guess all lists are like that :)Now, to go explore the ones on the list that I hadn't heard of before.

It's always nice to be on these lists--and God knows, I've been on plenty--but they're so subjective as to be essentially meaningless.

The character's family struggled with their church's teaching and doctrine when it came to their own child's life. I think that's true for more people of faith than not. I personally have a problem with books who portray people of faith or people who are conservative as the villains. I think it's laziness on the part of the author.
