So for my department's genre study next month we have to read a romance novel. But, of course, it has to be something we've not read before, so for me, this means reading something that's either F/F or M/F, since I don't read much in those genres of romance. I'm debating between Master of Crows, a fantasy romance and Head Over Heels, a contemporary romance with a sheriff, both of which are M/F.

This is a tough decision because they both look good! GAH!!!

The Jill Shalvis one is the third in a series so I'd probably go with the fantasy one, if that helps. ;)
Or you could pick Unforgivable which is M/F but a familiar author and on sale (if I read her fb post right).

Head Over Heels was actually recommended by a coworker as if it were a standalone, and the description sounds like it can be read that way too.

Ironically enough, it is longer than the fantasy novel! Lol.

I have finally gotten around to reading IN ALLEGIANCE by KATE ISLAY. What was I waiting for? Kate Islay is a PHD in American religious history, raises, rides and shows horses. Her writing is just wonderful and her storytelling thoroughly engrossing. I loved her MC's, both of them, respected them both. You've got to read this.

Few years ago I read a lot of British chick lit. My favorite of those is Seven-week itch

Very Bridget Jones (though not as TSTL heroine) and Jane Austen P&P-ish. Really love it and all of her books though unfortunately she's only published 3 books.

With too much time on my hands I get to read a lot and I have had a few good reads recently like Be My Best Man by Con Riley. She hasn’t published that many books, but her writing is good and the stories well crafted.

Also Noah by Cara Dee, a May-December story from Hollywood. I have no idea if she got the descriptions of film making right, but for me it was fun reading since I know nothing about it anyway. :)

Another I liked perhaps mostly because the refreshing and for me quite exotic environment described is Bollywood and the Beast, the writing is different, I liked it, but it might not be to everybody’s taste. It fits the story in my opinion.

I got totally hooked on Anne B. Ragde's Neshov series. This isn't m/m, but has several gay characters in it. I mentioned earlier that I was reading the first book Berlin Poplars for the book club with my colleagues. Well, I ended up wolfing down the whole four-book series. And that, right there, is the beauty of book clubs (online and off-line) — when you end up reading books you hugely enjoy and which you probably wouldn't have ever found by yourself.

I'm so glad you're relaxing with good books :-) I'll add Con Riley's "My Best Man" to my list. The last one I read by her was Must Like Spinach, and i really liked it.

Read Eli Easton's Five Dares. I loved it. It captures incredibly well the emotions of youth/early twenties - the exhilaration, the looming future, making life-shaping decisions. A very emotional read. Initially i found the MCs a bit difficult to tell apart, but that improves throughout, and the story is so worth it. By the end of the story, i was totally in love with it. :-)

I’m glad you liked them, they are much loved. I haven’t read all of her books, they are kind of hit or miss for me, but I loved Arsenikktårnet ( the Arsenic Tower). I don’t know if it translated though, but if you can find a translation, I recommend it.

It turned out I didn't read anything but a magazine (more advice on taming those eyebrows!). I did watch a number of ho-hum movies including (don't judge) Baywatch (ouch) and Spider Man: Homecoming. Oh, and I watched the original Alien for about the millionth time. I love that movie. It's so tightly written and the acting is stellar.

OMG, this came out in print earlier this month. I'm making the library do a special Amazon order for it so I can add it to our We Are Pride book list that comes out next year. :-D I LOVE this book!!!

I have a bit of bad luck the past week - two DNF books. The first I skipped to the end - cos I wanted to find out the mystery part. The second non-mystery one I just got bored by the 12% mark.

Is it fair to give up a story so early on? Maybe. But I need something to get me back into "groove". Time to re-read some old favourites.

Sorry to hear that. Twelve per cent is plenty of time to get the hang of a book. Over the past few years, I have fully embraced the idea that life's too short to read books I don't enjoy. I support your decisions. :)

What Alison said. I used to not give up on books, but yeah, recently, I've come to realize that there are just too many books and not enough time. :-) Savor the good ones, and dump the bad.

Same. So many books, so little time... and definitely not enough time for bad books.
With that in mind I established the habit of reading the free samples first. They are 10% of the book in most cases give a good idea if/how much I'd enjoy the story and the writing.

I don’t always buy print either, unless it’s something I truly love. CUTYS and STIC are two recents I’ve gotten/need to get. If I have the rest of AE in print, hell, in two editions, no less, I should complete the set! Lol.

I’ve been pushing myself to read so many new-to-me authors this year I haven’t had the time to read HQA more than three times. But, that said, STIC has also been a reread several times. 🙂

I am readingbDocumenting Light. It might have been mentioned here before, but if you are looking for a well written, low key book about trans people and queer history, I really recommend this one. Wonderful.
