I also recently read and loved Eleventh Hour.

And I found Lisa Henry's YA/NA book, Adulting 101, to be surprising sweet. You just have to be able to roll with a very young 18 year-old main character who has no filters most of the time. : )

I am reading Lilah Pace's "His Royal Secret series". Book 1 and 2.

I thought the writing was solid and the author had a good understanding of England, the Monarchy, the local media etc, despite not being British according to her bio.

At first I didn't want to read a romance about anyone from the royal family (cos they are silly, IMO), but I was pretty impressed by the writing and how both leads were grown-ups with real obstacles to overcome in search of HEA.

I haven't finished Book 2 yet, but so far, it's even better than Book 1.

I read My Only Sunshine by Mary Ann Rivers which was SO GOOD that I bought the first in the series. I can barely make it through this one. Not sure why other than nothing seems to be happening. Yeah they kissed and played a bit of baseball, but nothing else. This is supposed to be a slow burn romance, but the pilot light seems to have been snuffed out.

Thank you Karen for recommending Adulting 101. I found it hilariously funny while also touching on more serious topics like anxiety and generally having no idea what to do with yourself as a teenager and young adult. I found it surprisingly deep considering how humorous the book was.

One of the better books I've read this year. Totally recommend it.

It's interesting you say that because until this moment I didn't recognize how very boring I find the concept of Royals. Maybe it's just too far from what I can identify with?

And yet, I adored Princess Diana. But then I was at that adoring age. :-D

I'm reading A Little Life. It was shortlisted for the Booker price I think. It is rare these days to become so entranced by a book, but this, this is hitting me hard. Some very tough subjects, but oh my god how she manage to convey the emotions, the insights, the strife, but also the joys of the heart and the mind. This one will not leave me for a while.

Read: Spindrift and In Heaven and Earth. I'm enjoying Durreson's writing so much - beautiful and imaginative and somehow gentle even when what is happening is harsh or suspenseful. I really like how she weaves all that together.

Started reading No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden the other day, and so far it's really good. A very fast read that talks about everything this guy's done from his training to other missions he's been on, not just the OBL mission.

It reads a lot like SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper from what I remember of that one, which I read several years ago.

I always find this stuff fascinating.

I had never heard of it till the author was ordered to pay back his royalties of $6.8 million to the US government because he had failed to have the manuscript reviewed by Department of Defense.

I read Jess Faraday's The Affair of the Porcelain Dog and I absolutely loved it. It's a Victorian mystery and the main character is fantastic. It's not a romance, and I recommended it if you think a super entertaining historical mystery featuring a really cool queer main character sounds like fun. I've now read two things by this author and they've both been amazing, so I look forward to reading more.

I finally finished How To Be A Normal Person (on audio.) The book didn't overall work for me, but that was mostly because I'm not great with "straight-up" romances, and I found Klune's style very repetitive. I did like how he handled bringing in an asexual MC, and felt comfortable with the representation. I know quite a few here have read this already, but if you're looking for a positive representation and *like* more straight-up romances, you may like this.

Besides that, I haven't finished many books lately. I did love Blow Down, part 4 in JL Merrow's Plumber's Mate series. I love Tom! I think she does a stellar job with his voice. One of my "dream" products would be to listen to this series with a capable narrator who could do Tom's voice justice.

I've just read a wonderful love story Bread and Wine. It is autobiographical and Dennis and Samuel (Chip) are still together, and they met in 1990 when Dennis had been homeless for 6 years.

I gave all of them 4 stars.

Warnings:
- the first book has black and white, simple drawings, but IMO apt for the story.
- the anthology is like all anthologies, quite a mixed bag, but interesting and historically important.
- Ralf König usually manages to speak about AIDS with great empathy and still makes you laugh. This book is different, but also very good if you don't mind dark humour.

Started reading Nobody's Home last night and just can't put it down. This is a really sweet romance with little sex that involves dogs. What's not to love? Also, it's a fast read. I'm likely going to finish it tonight! Fasted read I've read in a long time, I think. :-)
