Gotobedmouse I hit my goal this year of 60 books!
Here is a list of my favorite books
The White Queen (The Cousins' War, #1) by Philippa Gregory -I just finished this book and it was a little tedious but a great story. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes -Great story that debates euthanize.
In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner -Story of the Cambodian Revolution told by in the POV of a child who lived it.
the hitchiker's guide to the galaxy by Douglas Adams -I do not know why I have not read this sooner.
The Art Forger by Barbara Shapiro -I did not like the characters in this book but I learned so much about art forgery.
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan -This should be a book club selection...THE BEST BOOK I READ ALL YEAR.
Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline -An easy read that sticks with you after you read it. Great blend of two stories.
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter -There were so many layers in this book and it was very jumpy but the author is able to pull it off.
Rock the Heart (Black Falcon, #1) by Michelle A. Valentine -Great cheap romance books.
The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman -The last 100 pages had me crying like a baby.
Room by Emma Donoghue -Another book that I finished in a day and it still haunts me.

Books I did not like:
Release Me (Stark Trilogy, #1) by J. Kenner -This whole series was annoying and very harmful.
The Bride Prize by Susan Fox -I got this book in a grab bag and it is all that is wrong with harlequin romance books in a nutshell.
The Real Girl Next Door by Denise Richards -Tori Spelling can pull off the "poor little Rich Girl" act...Denis Richards makes you want to slap her.

message 354: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahtx) There are 53 days left in the year and I'm at 73 out of 80...I need to finish a book every 7.57 days to meet my goal! ;)

message 355: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Tomlinson (mama_fullybooked) I have had to increase my reading goal twice this year. My first goal was 100 then 150 and when I met that in October I decided to increase it and try to go for 200 books read this year. I have read 174 so far. At the end of the year I'm going to go back and try to pick top 10 favorites. It's going to be so hard!

Kelly (and the Book Boar) I started with a goal of 52 as a New Year's Resolution to read one book per week. I doubled that goal once I passed 52. I'm currently at 210? 211? 212? somewhere around there. I agree with Lauren that picking my faves will be VERY difficult.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments i'm 25 out of 30 but part way through a bunch of books. I can do this!

message 358: by Angelica (new)

Angelica (angelica817) | 11 comments I vowed to read a hundred books and I'm way off schedule. Does anyone know if there's a way to change the number of books goal?

message 359: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 90 comments There should be a button to "update my entry" here:

message 360: by Maggie (new)

Maggie meet my goal of 75 books so i have upped it to 85.

message 361: by Naomi (new)

Naomi I am but I started late so I only did 5,but this 2013 summer I challenged my self to 20 but reached 14.Next year in 2014 I plan to do 30 books :) :)

message 362: by Ciska (new)

Ciska My goal is 70. Am on target having read 60 books so far this year. I am planning to up it to either 80 or 85 for next year.

message 363: by Mollydee (new)

Mollydee | 11 comments I was not here last year at this time. But I set a goal that I reached. (then I stretched it more!) But for 2014 I figured I could read a book a week so 52. But I tend to read more than one at a time so I just did an even 100.

But what I did so far was post everywhere lol! That I will have a. a list of the top 10 horror books from my horror group, one A-Z list of my pics and friends suggestion that I will pick and a second A-Z list - all other people's suggestions. So that is half the list so far. I have won 40 books this year on goodreads not counting other contests and e books. So I think I have plenty to where I may not even have to spend money on my books! That would be cool. If anyone has a suggestion, please go to my profile an PM me. Thanks! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ON YOUR GOALS! And have fun!

message 364: by Kareena (new)

Kareena (iluvchocolate) | 2 comments I set my goal to 60 book. So far I've read 47, but when school started I started reading less and less... sadly :'( So right now I'm 4 books behind and I don't know if I can catch up, but there's still 2 months (a little less) so there's still hope ;)

message 365: by Gotobedmouse (new)

Gotobedmouse I remember getting done with finals and vegging out on my mom's couch with an armful of books decompressing.

message 366: by Ahmya (new)

Ahmya (ahmyasan) my goal at first was fifty but I kept. finishing the books too fast so me it's around 150, I think but I don't remember exact amount.

Kristine Usero I'm happy that I've reached my target already. I've challenge for 250. It's great that I finished it.

message 372: by David (new)

David R I am drastically behind on the reading challenge this year. life keeps getting in the way of reading.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments 3 books to go!

message 374: by Terri (new)

Terri Bynum (terrib2018) My goal is 65 & I've read 56, goodreads tells me I'm "on track" so I'm happy. :-)

message 375: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 5 comments I totally didn't see that there was a thread for this. Last year I tried to read 100 books and ended up reading 80. This year I decided to try 100 books again since I was graduating from grad school this year and would have more time to read from May until the end of the December. So far I've read 92/100 books although a decent chunk of them are cookbooks which may/may not count (what is everyone's opinion on that?). Because of that I will try to read more than 100 to kind of make up for it.

It also helps that I need to read a ton of book for work

message 376: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (literarycat) I am falling behind on my challenge and I am ashamed of myself. I wanted to read 100 books this year and I am not even close to it. I would love to be able to make it by the end of the year and I am going to keep trying. There are a ton of books on my list that I want to read.

message 377: by Andra (new)

Andra Weis (andra_weis) | 18 comments My goal was 100 books. I am at 86. With 5 1/2 weeks to read 14 books....it will be touch and go. :( As I have out of town guests for the holidays...even tougher. Giving it a good shot. What worries me is the number in my TBR list. With 100/year...I have a list that will encompass over 20 years !!!!!

message 378: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Congrats to everyone that is wrapping up a challenge! Some of you had incredibly high goals! Remember, if you don't make your goal, it is fine. This is just supposed to be for fun and you can readjust your goal for next year.

@ Stacey - I think every book counts. Cookbook, children's books, work books, etc. They don't set any limits on what counts and if you mark it as read, they automatically count it towards your goal. So, I say everything counts!

Good luck Andra! I could never read 14 books in less than 6 weeks! I am not that fast of a reader.

My goal is met for the year. I updated my goal to 52 and decided not to increase it again. I have read 56 so far.

message 379: by Helen (new)

Helen Dalgarno (helen_89) Hi Guys, I read a lot. I can go through a book a day but I don't order books off here so when I added myself to the challenge it says I haven't read any books and I'm not sure how to update it with the books I have read. Can anyone help and let me know how I update. Thanks

message 380: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Hi Helen - The Goodreads challenge should update every time you mark a book as completed. If you are changing the book to read, sometimes it doesn't set the date. I think you just need to go in to each book and set the date read. If the date read is within 2013, Goodreads should automatically update your total.

message 381: by NoelaniK (new)

NoelaniK This is my first year challenging myself so I wasn't sure where to set the bar. 50 sounded like a good number... so 50 it was! I'm currently at 44 and "...on track..." Woo hoo me! :)

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments Two more books to go I'll probably need to up my goal!

message 383: by Katie.g (new)

Katie.g | 129 comments I'd not done the reading challenge before so wasn't sure how many books to set as my goal. I aimed for 44 and I'm on about 53 now. Considering that read most of the books from May onwards I guess I've done okay. Not much point in upping the target now!

message 384: by Naomi (new)

Naomi I'm 5 books behind schedule and have 5 weeks now to read 10 books... well, that's a challenge but I'm determined to reach my goal (50 books) so I'm reading as much as possible!

message 385: by Kat (new)

Kat | 84 comments Keep up the amazing work everyone! Our cummulative goal is for over 19,000 books! A reachable point, I think.
So many of you are so close! Victory is in the air! For those of you falling behind, never fear. There are still 15 days in the year!

If you're feeling discouraged, focus on the smaller picture: set a goal to read one more book before the end of the year. Or to pick up an old favorite and reread it. Take pride in what you read, don't make it a chore :)

I just reached my personal goal of 80 books and think I am able to read a couple more before the end of 2013.
So here are some of my suggestions to round out your bookshelf:
The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen (new favorite!)
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort
The Maze Runner series by James Dashner
The Selection by Kiera Cass
Legend series by Marie Lu
The Rook by Daniel O'Malley
Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour bookstore by Robin Sloan

Keep up the great work everyone. And keep in mind that there are over 400,000 people participating in this event and less than 8,000 have finished. Make the time to read, share your books on here, and remember, January 1st marks the all new 2014 Reading Challenge, the chance to do this all over again!

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments I finished my 30 and am still reading!

message 387: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristin218) My goal by the end of this year was to read 30 books. I kept changing my goal around and decided to stick with 30. I have read 17 so far. It's been a busy year for me and I hope to reach my goal next year! I want to read 100 books by the end of 2014, I'm going to try to!

message 389: by Arielle Rae (last edited Dec 16, 2013 04:30PM) (new)

Arielle Rae Aguilar | 69 comments I started the challenge really late, but I'm so glad that I already passed my goal of 100 books! Going to up the ante next year with 250 or possibly 300, heck, I'll even try for 500 maybe, and this time, I will include comics, mangas, and graphic novels as well
But man, it sure is annoying when I discover that I've been reading all these books without inputting the date, so it didn't show ><
There are just too much books that I loved this year to list them all
I can't even remember all the books that I've read... Gosh my memory is terrible

message 390: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal (chrystal0830) My goal was 30 and i started late, still have 7 more to go i think, but i'm still going to try...have 4 in the works and hopefully a few quick ones can be squeezed in to reach my goal...thinking about upping it to 90 next year, since i am in a reading groove after 3 years of studying for a masters :). Good luck with the rest of the year and your goals for 2014!

message 391: by Equine Dragon (new)

Equine Dragon | 83 comments I too started late and set a goal of 35. At this time I have to read 9 books. It's not entirely impossible as it's winter break! Either way I am a busy lady and don't have much spare time to read. But despite that I think I will up it by 5 books. Seeing as I started the challenge in March/April. And I read a lot more in winter than I do do in the spring and summer months.

message 392: by Equine Dragon (new)

Equine Dragon | 83 comments I meant I will up it by 5 for the 2014 challenge.

message 393: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal (chrystal0830) Yeah i feel ambitious though... i really want to try and do a alphabet and name challenge in 2014. having a challenge such as those sounds like a lot of fun!

Amie (amielouise) My goal for 2014 is going to be 100 books!
