I feel dwarfed by the enormity of fellow people's targets... I am an avid reader too but a slow one at that..I read 30 books last year and this year I have kept it lower still but I keep raising the bar as I draw close to it :)

My goal is 200 - already read 114 -- I work at a library and run the book club for it!! So many patrons recommend books besides the book clubs online I belong to!! And most of them have been worth the read!!
I've set it to 55. I'm behind though, I don't know how I'll do. Maybe I'll have to read shorter books and stop re-reading a Song of Ice and Fire!
I've set mine to 70 and have read 42 books this year - so far - if I keep this up will need to set it higher.
I challenged myself 35 this year however depending on how much time I have may read even more will wait to find out at the end year. Hope will be more of good books.

I set my goal to 50 and I'm at 63. Don't know how to change it on my phone app and I rarely get on the full site.
I set mine to 50. I haven't done a reading challenge in years. I started a few months late but looks like I will have no problem reaching/surpassing the goal. So far my favorite book this year has been Divergent.
My goal is to read at least 50 books, so far I've only gotten 15 but I am trying to read as much as I can when I am not working or sleeping. I hope I can increase the number sometime soon...

I love to read, but I am not a fast reader and life can get very busy.
So far, I'm at 21 out of 24, which is much better than I expected to be. I am not increasing my goal though. I only have a couple weeks before I am back to work and school full time, plus starting my internship in the fall. I expect that I won't have much time to read. I'm just going to leave it at 24 and see where my actual number ends up. Then I'll plan next year's challenge based off that.
Ise wrote: "im participating and my goal is 100 books!"oh! My goal is the same!. I'm at 35.I'm not reading as much as I would like.I hope to read more in the future.
I started off with 40 but am already at 22. Since I'm half way through I feel really good. Plus I just downloaded a bunch of new books on to my kindle so I might be able to read more especially since I've been reading my kindle in bed a lot before I go to bed.
working on reading about 50 books for the rest of 2013! i'm too busy with college but i try to read at the same time ! i read 6 books so far ! the books i choose are long but interesting !!

That is amazing , mind blowing!!
I had my goal of 70 books for 2013, and it is crazy to realize as of now I have read at least 30! I never realized how much I actually read until I signed up with Goodreads and started tracking what I read. I feel lucky that I have my summer vacation to read recreational books of my own choosing, because the time I have for reading will definitely decrease once school starts up again in August.
I am a pretty slow reader. I set my goal for 36, 3 books each month. I have only completed 12, I am behind schedule by 3 books :L
Wow. I met my goal of 24/24. I raised mine to 40. I would say 48 but I'm worried I won't reach the extra 8!
My realistic goal is 15 for the year, but I will be pushing for 20, best book thus far is Karin Slaughters's Indelible.
I am participating with a goal of 50 books. I've read 26 and almost half the year is over......So maybe I won't be able to increase my goal.
you are lucky...i i am 19% behind. i don't know how i am going to catchup to my goal.but i am trying. one thing that is detracting me is that i have a big book hangover....i can't seem to put down the last book i read. recommend a great book .... maybe that will get me to push for the goal. GOOD LUCK with yours!!!!
I just signed up. Looking at what everybody else has chosen as the goal, I think I might've aim too high. I also thought I read more books than twenty-five last year. Maybe I didn't review them all. I'm going to have to be a whole lot picky about what I start since I often abandon a book after day or two if I'm not liking it. Can't waste the time now. I am not sure how I found the reading challenge but I did and I set it up at 50 to begin with(having never done it before)but had to change to 100 because I was reading too quickly at the rate I read. I think it is a great, I always wondered how many I read in a given year now we know. I like seeing others challenges too! I am at 42/100 right now.
mine was 100 but i changed it to 50 because im going to dorm this july. well, i finished it! and im not going to increase it. dorm takes all of my time
My goal is 50, but a lot of the books I've read I was rereading and I don't want to count those. So my current is 12, but I know I'll be able to meet it. I'm a good reader.
You guys are awesome. I have some major upgrading to do. I tried to read 2 books in a month and almost passed out.
I'm participating! I am at 49 books out of my goal of 100! Four books ahead of schedule. I read entirely too fast, but I started reading more now that I've stopped watching t.v. as much.
Finally decided to increase mine to 50 after all since I'm going through books a bit quicker than expected at the moment. We'll see what will come of it :-)
Yesenia`maqueda wrote: "I'm 1/2 a book away to finishing my goal!! Finally!"I think it's about time then to up your challenge!! ;-)
That is so true. Half a year has gone by and I've finished my challenge. I should read another fifty books! I'll read 50 more books, so that by the end of the year I'll have read 100!!
My goal for 2013 is to read over 100 books, and the best book I've read so far is the series Fearless by Francine Pascal...it's sooo good!
man its kind of hard to stay on target, I am now three books ahead of my goal. I hope it stays that way I have been so busy and my taste is so broad sometimes I read books that are 150 pages and then sometimes I read books that are 600 pages long.
Originally I set my goal to 40 but just today upped it to 75 since I've already completed 43 books so far... this year for me has been all about trilogies so the number seems a lot higher than what it felt like to read (which for me each series = 1 book). Also starting to debate if I need another hobby lol

I just finished Graceling and am absolutely in love with that novel. So good, can't wait to add the next one to my list!
So I've done a bit more math at the request of several of you. Based on the fantastic responses this post has recieved. It can be estimated that we have a total goal of about 10,475 books to read this year. AND that we have read about 6,817 of those so far! Which means that we are about 65% complete and the year isn't half over yet!!
This is amazing, all. Keep up the great work and continue to share any great finds you may have. I am so excited for all of us. If you need some motivation, be sure to let someone know. We are all here to support one another in this challenge. Best of luck!
A few more recommendations:
Graceling by Kristen Cashore
The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness (Book two in a series, the first being A Discovery of Witches)
Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson series)
Fair Game by Patricia Briggs (Alpha and Omega series)
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Ok I started this challenge late and I have seen some peoples goals and feel bad about my number. I am going for 35 this year I have already read 13. I feel good about it considering that I work and go to school....
I've set myself a target of 80 books, and so far I have read 42! So I'm very pleased with myself! :-) although I mindful that I have been strategically reading all my smaller books first!
Tino wrote: "I've set myself a target of 80 books, and so far I have read 42! So I'm very pleased with myself! :-) although I mindful that I have been strategically reading all my smaller books first!"I read two small books and then a large one that way I stay on target.
Alright, boys and girls, no one needs to feel bad about many or few books, as the case may be, that they are reading. The point of the challenge is to challenge yourself within your own means. It isn't AGAINST each other, it is in conjunction WITH one another. Even if you only read one book this year and that was your goal, then you would have contributed and that is a good thing. The point is to read and enjoy and share your experience, not to compete. So continue with the great reading of books at your own pace and please keep sharing with us!
