Steampunk and multiculturalism. Anyone have any book suggestions?

I've recently been trying to rekindle my interest in the Steampunk genre of Science Fiction. I don't mind reading white able bodied men being the heroes, but I'd love to read a book that has great action or a great storyline, and has more than the default "white able bodied man."

Anyone got any suggestions?

Meljean Brook"s Iron Seas is steampunk-romance. My fav is .

Cherie Priest is awesome.

I loved Lindsay Buroker's series, besides being well written and exciting, it also stood out for having a very well defined cast of characters. I found the main character, a young woman called Amaranthe, very refreshing because she uses her head and has a sense of humor. The first book in the series is free, so you can try it out and see if you like it.

I also read a bit of , which is well written enough and has a fun female protagonist, though I still have to get over my distaste of reading about vampires and werewolves. I don't know, I just don't like them.

I'm also thinking of reading and , as they sound really interesting but the reviews I've read don't seem promising.

I just purchased that @ TheFountainPenDiva. It actually just came in the mail five minutes ago. XD I read it had Malian and Celtic elements, so I hope I enjoy it. Have you read it?

I agree with the Cold Magic rec. It is a different pace than most of the steampunk reads I like, but
I thought the world & characters were incredible.

I have and enjoyed it. Differently paced, but it's also a novel for us more fantasy purists, LOL.
