YA Novel, main characters Snake and ginger, published pre 1985 [s]

My best guess is that this book was published between 1975-1984.

I'm not sure what the topic of this book was, but it seems like it was graduation, or moving away from friends, saying goodbye, something like that.
The kids were high school seniors.
The main character was a girl named Ginger. She might have been a bit of a tomboy; it seems like I remember her playing softball.
There was also a "bad boy" character called Snake, but I can't remember if he was her boyfriend or not.
I am losing my mind trying to think of the name of this book.

No, unfortunately I don't. I read the book in Braille.
I know these are scant clues to go on, but I keep hoping i'll remember something more . . author name, or snippet of the plot, anything. But so far, I'm having no luck.
