Celeste (celemack) | 104 comments In May, we wondered about reading a YA book or a favourite children's book from your past and seeing how it sits with you today? :-) We thought this might be a good challenge, especially since we're already a wee way through the month. Plus, nostalgia!

Paula 1 Lamb | 47 comments Good idea...but being so ancient now I'm wondering if any of my favourites are still in print!

Celeste (celemack) | 104 comments I'm trying to even remember what I read and enjoyed then... :-)

I think I'm going to read Danny: The Champion of the World. Growing up both my parents were teachers and would buy books to read to their classes, that I got to devour afterwards :-) I think this was one of those, and I remember loving it.

This is the cover we had:

Danny The Champion of the World by Roald Dahl

Bethlehem Perfect challenge...I've wanted to read Kate De Goldi's The 10pm Question for ages now so I think I'll read that. Anyone read it?

Yes! I really enjoyed it -- it was a while ago, but I really like her books. Also, I have a "worst-case scenario brain", according to my partner, so I could definitely identify with Frankie :-)

Good choice. Being too ancient to remember what I read as a child (except for the delightful Mr Twiddle by Enid Blyton!) I think I will re read the books I read with my own children (now teens). Roald Dahl was a big favourite especially "The Twits" and "Fantastic Mr Fox"

Janet | 6 comments Been re-reading (and loving) Diana Wynne Jones. Also tried a YA series - the Lying Game. Very silly, but nice to switch off the brain once in a while.

I love Diana Wynne Jones -- especially the Chrestomanci books :-) What's your favourite?

Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favourite books of ALL TIME. I first read it when I was a teenager, and whenever I read it again it is still as great as the first time I read it.

Charmed Life, Witch Week, Howl's Moving Castle among others. I've just re-read Hexwood and Fire and Hemlock. I think I've read Fire and Hemlock about 3 times, and I still find the ending confusing and keep getting new things out of it. Next on my list to re-read are Archer's Goon and The Time of the Ghost.

I'm not sure I've ever read Hexwood or Archer's Goon, or The Time of the Ghost. But, I have read Fire and Hemlock, and enjoyed it a lot :-)

I really really liked The Pinhoe Egg, and Charmed Life (this is probably my favourite, along with Contrad's Fate). The first one of the Chrestomanci books I ever read though I think was The Magicians of Caprona, which isn't one of my favourites now, but at the time I loved it and it got me into the series, so :-)

I really love these books! Thank you for the reminder :-) And Witch Week is awesome too -- she was just such a good author, and from all the articles I read last year after she passed away, she was a lovely person too, so :-)

My favourite would have to be Howl's Moving Castle as well, though the other two books in the series are also good. I rather liked the Studio Ghibli movie of the book, although it did depart from the story in a few places.

Yeah, I really liked the film too, even though it did change a few things. But that did not bother me as much as I thought it would.
