And I thought Day 3 was too hard to answer. I love to read series, so choosing just one favorite for day 3 -- I just couldn't do it. I could give a list of several favorites and now the favorite book of that series. Wow -- this may take me all month to figure out. I'll do some more reading for research ;)

Cleo (cleopatra18) | 139 comments Swallows and Amazons (Swallows and Amazons, #1) by Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome

A wonderful story of the adventures of four children on holiday in the Lake District in England. At first they thought it was a great adventure to camp out by themselves on Wild Cat Island but when they run into pirates and then have to fight a battle with Captain Flint himself, their vacation turns out to be more than they had ever dreamed! A must read classic!

Jenny (jennyc89) Oh gosh that's so hard!! I might have to go with the final installment of the Riyria Revelations, Heir of Novron.

message 11: by Antonio (new)

Antonio (antonioarez) I'm not patient enough to go on with any series...I use to get disappointed in the second book, so I give up...

My favorite book in my favorite series would have to be Catching Fire in the Hunger Games series.

message 18: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 333 comments Oh boy, that's a tough one - I guess it's reasonable to choose The Eye of the World, the one that started it all.

Tytti | 1010 comments Because I don't really read series, I don't have a favourite book, either. If I have to say something, then maybe The Speckled Band.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1685 comments Lady of Desire is my fave title in a series.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I read Inca Gold earlier this year, you have to give Cussler credit he writes a good series. Dirk Pitt a cross between Indiana Jones and James Bond. Fun reads.

Indeed...I wouldn't quite credit him with Classic Lit, or Great Lit, but he's fun and easy to read. As I said on the day 3 question...a good airplane read. I can't read anything too deep on planes. Cussler makes the time fly (pardon the pun).

Literature is not synonymous with Cussler and shame on me but I could read one or two a month.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I love so many of the Discworld books but if I have to choose one then Mort as it was the first one I read.

Not sure what made me think of this today, but there is a wonderful quotation by Admiral Sandecker in one of CC's books, might be Inca Gold, don't remember for certain.

He who waits not for chance, conquers fate

That has actually served me, at least once in life...when I conquered fate.

My favorite series was The Chronicles of Narnia and my favorite book is the last book The Last Battle/ How amazing. I cried and cried. The whole series made sense at that point and a serious amount of theology was delivered to readers. I love the series just on the merits of that book. If I had only read the first I would have given ir a ho hum 3 star rating.

I did really like that series too Sara. Mary Stewart is one of my favorite authors.

message 44: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Fountain | 296 comments Without Remorse by Tom Clancy - prequel to the Jack Ryan series. Most of the Ryan series felt like a guilty pleasure to me (not saying that's a bad thing, not at all), but Without Remorse was powerful, gripping, couldn't put it down.

(skip the 2021 film rendition, not at all faithful to the book)

message 45: by Michaela (new)

Michaela | 386 comments Been a while that I read the first books in the Waringham series by Rebecca Gablé, so probably the first: Das Lächeln der Fortuna or The Traitor's Son.

message 46: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Elmer | 17 comments The Fellowship of the Ring in The Lord of the Rings series.

message 47: by Robin P (new)

Robin P My favorite Harry Potter is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban because of the time turner and mostly because of how Harry thinks his father is helping him but it's really him helping himself, such a great lesson. Also a great lesson that the terrible punishment of Azkaban is making people relive all our regrets and all the bad things we have ever done. Lots of us sentence ourselves to that fate!

message 48: by Wreade1872 (new)

Wreade1872 | 933 comments hmmm... i guess probably the Hogfather (Discworld, #20) by Terry Pratchett Hogfather from the Discworld series, i love how it explores the dark origins of our family friendly tradition.
