message 102: by Helen (new)

Helen Southall (hsouthall) | 181 comments Am running to grab the top bunk by the window. Great way to sneak out to steal s'mores, etc from the other cabins.

Me neither Lynn. The closest I ever came I suppose was going camping with the Scouts!

I haven't either. I wonder if the UK will ever introduce summer camps? It could be a good idea.

Ah yes, I did go camping with Guides but as you said not really the same.

Naomi - head on over to Camp Amly and grab a bunk and some s'mores!

The fruit machine must have thought you two would cause too much trouble if you were in one camp. LOL

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Hey, how come Happy Campers aren't getting any of the newbies? Are we just so awesome already we don't need anyone else?

message 112: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It looks like the fruit machine is afraid to send anyone else into that pit. Haha!

Debra, I am thrilled that you and I are finally on the same team!!!! Hooray!!! Sorry about Almeta though. : ( We can send her some goodies and messages (smoke signals). lol

Hope the boys from the next camp over don't pull a panty raid! Haha!!!

I was just going to ask the same thing! I think that fruit machine is broken. Someone must have decided to make yuck-a-futz in it for a camp party.

message 116: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments To make a what?!? lol

message 117: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Lynn wrote: "To make a what?!? lol"

My thoughts exactly! I looked it up on the internet and it appears it might have more than one meaning!

message 118: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments I'm sure Janice meant the drink reference and not the other one!! (Although throwing in a useless old boyfriend would muck up the machine too, lol)

message 119: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59897 comments You actually found a reference on Google? I wasn't even sure if I was spelling it correctly, and I can't find it using the spelling I did.

Yuck-a-futz (digging back to fuzzy hazy days in my misguided youth) was a concoction of mixed fruits and alcohol. Lethal!

Hmmm, I'm beginning to sound like a bit of a sot. Honest! I don't drink that much. I recently joined a wine group and have a couple of glasses each Thursday night with them.

message 120: by Kristin (new)

Kristin I'm in, my kids are actually at camps that week!!! So may have more time to read! Put me in a camp please!

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Does scary mean a horror genre novel or could it be a true crime horrific novel such as In Cold Blood ?

message 131: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments Never mind...I can do the movie night category for that one...but still, I'd like to know the answer in case it is yes and there are other horrific stories out there not of the horror genre that I might read?

message 132: by Debra (last edited May 23, 2013 02:26AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments One day, at band camp.... (snicker). And, yes, I played the flute!

Band camp, was hell, btw. No fun camp activities, just marching, marching, marching and taking salt pills so we didn't faint from heat stroke. Horrific!

LOL, I like that description. I'm anything but "normal."

message 136: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I was a Kiddie Camp counselor for the YMCA for several summers. We didn't go away anywhere; the parents dropped off the 4-6 year olds at a local park, so we could be driven crazy for 6 hours M-F! I led all the singing songs like Little Bunny Fu-Fu and Kumbaya! We did arts and crafts and ate bag lunches, played Duck,Duck,Goose and climbed the jungle-jims and swung on the swings. Not a bad job for a teenager with some energy to chase kids around.

We can drum up a bit of trouble together. Last weekend we were naughty and I paid for it the day after. That plum wine and the laughs was worth it, tho.

message 139: by Lisa (last edited May 23, 2013 06:52AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have a question about the Camp Nicknames task. I have a book, a modern retelling of 'Phantom of the Opera', that was first published in 2006 under a pen name. However, the edition I have is a revised edition from 2012 which is published under the authors real name, although it does say 'writing as ....' in brackets under the authors name. Will this book qualify for this task?

message 140: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have a question too! Regarding the Talent Show task. I was thinking about reading Remix which has a musician from a band in it but I wondered how much the book had to be about music etc or whether just having a character who is a musician is enough? Will this qualify?

message 141: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 915 comments OMGawd Debra ~ Band camp!! I played flute as well :-) Thanks for the memories and smiles :-)

Also the Day Camp posting. Me too :-)

Also, i sang Little Rabbit FooFoo until i was blue in the face to my youngest. It was the only way he would get to sleep, in the car, at 2 am, every morning!!

I think I figured it out by myself, it´s from "golpher", right? I think we have a similar expression which would be translated as "hamstering".
Funny, I thought at first golphering might have to do with alcohol as summer camp (never been to one) seems to have a lot to do with enjoying nice drinks - very sympathetic :-).

Scary doesn't have to be in the horror genre. In Cold Blood would certainly qualify! Just imagine - would you tell it around a campfire to scare others?
