message 101: by Sely (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sely I saw the movie a couple of years ago. I went to the cinema because, as a huge fan of Kinsella's book, I had been looking for long to watch this movie. I don't know if it was because of the doubling of the Italian version... but I perfectly remember I was totally disappointed by it. I didn't like the actors and some scenes had been invented just to make the movie more fun.. but unnecessarily, in my opinion, since Kinsella's books are so irresistibly entertaining, witty and enjoyable. So I think they were not able at all to do the same with the movie! My boyfriend hadn't read the books and he found the movie quite funny, not so bad, but for me that I had read and fully enjoyed the stories wasn't good enough.

message 102: by C.C. (new) - rated it 3 stars

C.C. Movie was quite stupid.

message 103: by Debbie (new) - rated it 3 stars

Debbie I watched the movie right after reading the book. I enjoyed the book a lot more. The changes in the movie didn't enhance or improve the story at all.

message 104: by Megan (new) - rated it 3 stars

Megan Collier I loved the books and was so excited to see the movie, but the movie was disappointing. I didn't like all the changes they made to the movie.

message 105: by Anna (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anna Sally wrote: "The book was funny, entertaining, cute, witty, charming, and enjoyable - everything the movie wasn't!"

Agreed!! I really loved the book except for the swearing which really annoyed me to death.

message 106: by Anna (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anna Did anyone feel uncomfortable when Becky called that woman a hussy in Finnish and the woman never knew that she had called her that??

message 107: by Anna (new) - rated it 3 stars

Anna I thought the way Becky was portrayed was good. But Luke just didn't seem right at al.

Regina The movie was TOTALLY different from the book. There were lots of changes made.

Mikaela watched the movie first and the read the books, the impressions of the characters were completley different. Becky was charming, succesful and somewhat desperate/daring in the book. But in the movie completley irresponsible, stupid and lacking in basic common sense, who barley tried to get herself out of debt. Luke in the book, was arrogant but charming arrogant if you know what i mean. But in the movie he was a total d***, he was stuck up and sooo not deserving of becky. It's pretty much the Bridget Jones' Diary thing all over again. The book was great but the movie not so great.

message 110: by Ben (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ben Total change in plot and wasn't as funny as the book. In comparison, it was a terrible movie.

message 111: by Britt (new) - rated it 3 stars

Britt I had to turn the movie off after about 4 minutes. It was too different!

message 112: by Eva (new) - rated it 1 star

Eva King Alexa wrote: "I liked the movie, the book for me was a draaaaaaaag."

I agree with you, I couldn't finish the book, it was very boring. When my friend got the dvd I actually dragged my heels to watch it, but it was alright... didn't totally hate it...

message 113: by Kat (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kat I refuse to watch the film, whilst I am tempted. I am a big fan of the Shopaholic series of books and felt let down when I discovered all the changes that were being made for the movie. I don't think I'd enjoy it as I know the books so well.

Novie Chryss I loved the movie when it was first showed to the public. It's actually one of my fave RomCom movies. And I just read the book last February and I love it to pieces, I mean Becky is so hilarious. then I watched the movie again just today.

And now I'm a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I still love the movie. But let's admit it, when you've read a certain book and you take in explicit details, then you watch its film version, you will always be a little bit disappointed because some details are missing. But in Confessions of a Shopaholic, I'm not disappointed with other altered things from the book but by the fact that they made Tarquin as Suze's fiancee. That is just wrong because Tarquin in the book is actually Suze's cousin and he likes Becky!

*BUT I STILL LOVE THE MOVIE and it remains on my list of fave movies. :) *

Was "Bridget Jones' Diary" book better than the movie?

message 116: by Maygin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Maygin I really liked the book. I laughed the whole time I was reading it. The movie on the other hand was a HUGE disappointment. I barely laughed at all.

message 117: by Katie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Katie I did enjoy the movie, but I was disappointed in the way they made Becky American, instead of having it take place in London.

message 118: by Lia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lia pretty good movie but in a different way. i think that even though it is not like the book it can stand alone and is worth watching

message 119: by Kat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kat When I found out that Hugh Dancy was in the movie, I knew there were going to be some major changes in the story. I mean, he also starred in the Blood and Chocolate and Ella Enchanted movies -_-

message 120: by Linda (new) - rated it 4 stars

Linda Wyndslash wrote: "i hated it. they turned Luke into a weakling @_@"

I agree! I loved the books but the movie was very disappointing!!!!

Falak Wyndslash wrote: "i hated it. they turned Luke into a weakling @_@"
I agree with u!!! i luvd luke in d book but ended up hating him in d movie...i did not even see the whole movie...couldn't stand it!!!

message 122: by Elesa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Elesa Loved the movie. :)

Kill the Spare I loved the actors! Isla Fisher was cute and.. and just perfect!! I saw the movie almost 3 yrs. before I read the book. I liked the movie then.. it was cute. But after reading the series.. the movie doesn't seem so good.. The book was a LOT better..

Mikaela Beth wrote: "Mikaela wrote: "watched the movie first and the read the books, the impressions of the characters were completley different. Becky was charming, succesful and somewhat desperate/daring in the book...."

i reckon the book was better than the movie

Mikaela Maygin wrote: "I really liked the book. I laughed the whole time I was reading it. The movie on the other hand was a HUGE disappointment. I barely laughed at all."

yeh i laughed a lot while reading it but found it completley unfunny in the movie

Mikaela Katie wrote: "I did enjoy the movie, but I was disappointed in the way they made Becky American, instead of having it take place in London."

yeh so true

message 127: by Shelly (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shelly The movie was absoulte crap...5 mins in, and I knew I was just going to hate it!

message 128: by Chrissy (last edited Aug 17, 2012 02:15AM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Chrissy I'd suggest watching the movie before reading the book. Or one or the other. If you've read the book already you will be disappointed.
I couldn't sit through the entire thing.

message 129: by Eva (new) - rated it 4 stars

Eva the movie is probably good to ppl who didnt read the books! they changed so much! they used a british actress to portray becky as an american, WTH?

message 130: by YQ (new)

I think if you had read the books first, you would really have expected Luke to be much more gorgeous!

Alexandra Alexyna They combined confession of a shopoholic with the book where Becky whent to New York . I discoverd that after reading the second book

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked the movie. I thought it was cute

message 134: by Sadie (new) - added it

Sadie I didn't like the movie they changed SO much and totally messed up the book things that happened in the movie didn't even happen in the book

message 135: by Tulsi (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tulsi The books is way better

message 136: by Susan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Susan The movie was OK. But the book was so funny!

message 137: by Christine (new) - added it

Christine The movie is absolutely adorable. Isla Fisher is just what she's supposed to be: shallow, foolish, but somehow endearing. I love serious literature. I love To Kill a Mockingbird, The Giver, Virginia Woolf, etc. But sometimes you need a break and this is the perfect escape!

message 138: by Geo (new) - rated it 4 stars

Geo Sustento Robin wrote: "I know I noticed that too. Maybe to make it more appealing to Americans? New York is the fashion capital of the world, I suppose."

It's Paris, I think.

message 139: by Nevada (new) - rated it 4 stars

Nevada I prefer the books not the movies

Alejandra I quite liked the movie (nothing to do with the fact that I have a huge crush on the actor that plays Luke)but it doen't come even close to the books. These books series are probably the funniest I've ever read, and Becky, despite her wackiness is totally relatable. Loved the books, liked the movie.

message 141: by Bella (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bella Ain love the book, not the movie

message 142: by Eve (last edited Jul 24, 2017 11:36AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Eve I am unsure how I feel. Just off the top of my head, I would say that I did not enjoy it at all as I thought Isla Fisher made the character completely unrelatable and honestly just down right annoying over just how truly obsessed she turned out to be. However, I do believe that it actually portrays the character accurately.
So long story long, I didn't like the movie even though I think it stayed true to the novel (except for the whole New York/London thing).

message 143: by Aleena (new) - rated it 3 stars

Aleena I think Isla Fisher was perfect for the role. But, I was actually disappointed with Luke's character. They didn't give him any depth. He seemed just as an accessory.

Tehzeeb Loved the book.... Couldn't enjoy the movie due to the etched images of the book in mind.

message 145: by Donna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Donna Callender the movie did not do the book justice. I only got through 20 minutes. they need to have it set in London.

message 146: by Julie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Julie I think the movie would have been better if it was set in London. The movie character's parents were my favorite part.
