Mar The book is generally always better. I thought Ilsa Fisher was pretty cute as the lead character. The movie was cute, but there was room for improvement. It didn't live up to the richness of the book.

Fatma Al Fadhli I hated the movie. they just destroyed the novel into bits and pieces just to make a movie.

message 53: by Manasi (new) - added it

Manasi Vaidya I didn't like the movie at all :( I felt it didn't do even an iota of justice to the book. And Luke :( They ruined Luke for me forever.

Andrea I LOVED LOVED LOVED the book and was so excited when I heard the movie was coming out - I went opening night but was pretty disappointed. Books IMO are always better than movies (ie: The Time Traveler's Wife). Isla Fisher was a good Becky and the movie was just ok but I probably would have liked it a lot more had I not read the book first.

message 55: by no (new) - rated it 4 stars

no I watched half the movie and only read a few chapters of the book. I'm not sure why it didn't grab me. Oh but the setting change was a bummer.

Louise Annette Marshall Ilove the whole SHOPAHOLIC BOOKS ...i wasnt thrilled at the movie i much prefer to read these kind of books than watch the films.Ihad an image of the characters in my head an not as they were in the book ..curtainly not Luke at all..they got his character wrong an the film misses all the quirky funny comments etc too.

Mageela I hate the movie! Everything about this movie sucked!!!

Esther Fanny well.... according to me, perhaps, the movie wasn't really good as the book was. but it was quite entertaining & hilarious ( to pass your day ).
that's all i have.

Susan I hated the film and can't imagine that I'd like the version of the book that reflects the film. I loved the original book though.

Angel / YA rules!/ i think the book was better... although, i admit i only read several books until the character ultimately bored me... i just couldn't continue reading the other books since there was already a pattern to her problems which resulted from her not learning a lesson at all.

Chrissy♥Dev I loved the book, but the movie was such a disappointment. It did nothing for the book and the authors writing! HORRIBLE MOVIE ADAPTION!!

Robin It was a horrible movie adaptation. The locale was supposed to be London, and they changed it to New York. And I am the main character was supposed to be British. I thought it was okay.

Allen Kelley I would have preferred the movie to retain its Britishness, it was a bit diluted. The movie was still entertaining, although I would have rather had it be more like the first book in the series.

Micaela The bok was awesome and the movie was awesome

Valerie Springham Loved all the books, but I just couldn't get into the film at all

Sarah I agree with many of you. The books were much better than the movie. I was turned off as soon as I heard her speak - she wasn't British. I loved the books because they were British - that is what made it charming to me. I also didn't like the Luke character either. They should have kept one book plot and not mixed in a few plot lines from different books.

Louie I've always like the book version over plenty of movies, including the shopaholic series. Althou Isla Fisher's role was not to bad, Luke could have been much much better...

message 68: by Lisa (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lisa The book was so much better. The movie was embarrassing to watch.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought the movie was a cross between Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. The movie was definitely a combination of both those books.

Malia I was so disappointed in the film version1 The book was sweet and Becky's wackiness was endearing whereas the characters in the film seemed like horrible, shallow caricatures!

message 71: by Kaye (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kaye hate isla fisher, wish it could have been amy adams as becky.. love hugh dancy though..

Malia Kaye wrote: "hate isla fisher, wish it could have been amy adams as becky.. love hugh dancy though.."

Or it could have at least been set in London, like the first book!

Gretchen I saw the movie first and then read the books and was well shocked. It was like the film was a completely different story, well really it was!
I like the film it is cute but it is a weird American characterization that limited it from having any future films. It really was nothing like the books almost like what if the character of Becky was American and we wrote a whole new story. Plus Becky's mom in the books is so funny and so much like Becky. Becky's American Joan Cusack mom is not only nothing like her but well really only like 10 years older then Isla.

Mim-Is-Reading Ugh. Movie was so bogus and boring - I probably would have liked it more if I hadn't already read the book.

Yoannita i enjoyed the book mores than movie version!

message 76: by Lily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lily Malik i love Luke in the book.. he was strong, with lots of charisma.. but they made him so bleak in the movie.. a very big disappoinment for me.. the book is MUCH better than the movie.

Richie liked the book better... Luke's a lot more sexy and becky reckless but successfull.

Nattaporn So disappointing! I thought the book was better but never knew the movie is this bad.

message 79: by Anna (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anna It didn't leave me all melty, cozy, fuzzy, cutiey the way all chick flics I love do....and I really wanted to love it but I ended up watching it twice and hating it.

Beth Big disappointment!

message 81: by Lea (new) - rated it 1 star

Lea I loved the movie, but the book... I didn't like it.

message 82: by Lea (new) - rated it 1 star

Lea I loved the movie, but the book... I didn't like it.

Alice It has been years since i read the books ( i've only read the 2 first so far)
- But i really hated the movie!

I might not have judged it so hard if it was just another romantic comedy, but it was supposed to be based on the books.
There were just too many missing links.

message 84: by Yue (new) - rated it 5 stars

Yue I didn't like the movie comparing to the book. Hugh Dancy as Luke was weak and not too self-confident as Luke in the book. Also, Isla Fischer was kind of dummy as Rebecca... And my favorite part in the first book is when Rebecca defeats Luke in the TV show, and they didn't include that part in the movie (unless I forgot, it's been a while since I watched the movie)

message 85: by Amal (new) - added it

Amal Aravind I really think Isla Fisher is cute. Its her face that made me watch the movie..

Primadhani Galih is not Luke i portrait

Sarah The movie slaughtered the book, it was just awful. Whenever I recommend the books to friends I have to mention that they are nothing like the movie since no one I know liked the movie.

Malia Sarah wrote: "The movie slaughtered the book, it was just awful. Whenever I recommend the books to friends I have to mention that they are nothing like the movie since no one I know liked the movie."

I totally agree, it's so disappointing when that happens to a book and characters one really likes

If that the case, I will have to say i have not read the book at all!

Stacy Never saw it. I didnt want to waist 2 or so hours being cranky. Im sure it was a good movie in general, for people who didnt read the book. But without sounding stupid did they focus on the Denny and George scarf and the bumping into him after she bought it?!? I sort of remember complaining to my sister about it after seeing the previews. Thats where it all began with them..maybe im wrong.

Quyen the onl thing i like in the movie is the scarf

Stacy :) funny

Angelwing I liked the book better.

Mikaela §ally wrote: "The book was funny, entertaining, cute, witty, charming, and enjoyable - everything the movie wasn't!"

agreed. I saw the movie first and i thought it was crap, then i got the book, and the only reason i got it was cos it was 1 dollar, i was like is this a waste of my dollar (lol)? But it wasn't it was really good

Milan I honestly feel like I did not get anything out of the film! Not even comparable to the book!

message 96: by Essz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Essz i think the movie is horrible compared to the book. I thought the book was hilarious, and the details in the book really played a big role to the story. So when they changed the color of the scarf, and they changed a lot of people in the movie it made it all worse. Yes the movie is cute, but like i said, in comparison to the book its nothing :)

Mikaela the book was sooo much better than the movie. I saw the movie first and wasn't impressed, then i picked up the book for a dollar, i was a little hesitant and didn't know if ihad wasted a dollar (lol) but it was a great book!!

Kittie Howard I found the book absolutely delightful. The movie's move to NYC erased some of the charm.

nick (the infinite limits of love) I liked the book a lot more than the movie, but I still thought that Isla Fischer did a good job at playing Becky although she is a red-head.

message 100: by Shawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Shawn Macdonald Loved the books, not crazy about the movie. On that note, haven't had the courage to watch "One for the Money" ... love the books too much to desecrate them in my mind if I don't love the movie.
