I'll be in Oceanside at a beautiful resort and with my husband, one daughter, and at least four grandkids, but I'm going to join you with whatever time I have to read. YAY!!!! We are a FUN and interesting buddy group when we all get together. Hope it's a GREAT read! Don't know if I can handle laying in the sun, watching kids surf and ride the waves with boogie boards, etc. and relax and read too. Oh, yay! Life is GOOD!!!

Trisha, I'm LOVING sitting on the balcony across from the beautiful beach and pier, listening to the waves and reading! I was SO tired yesterday that I ended up going to bed at 10:30. Me! Lol I'm loving reading and relaxing, but playing catch up still.

I finished The Angel Experiment and I'm pretty sure everyone wants to move on to book 2, so hopefully you'll join us.

Miss being on GR but my phone won't last! :)

I've been meaning to get to that book!! It's been on my kindle for over a year...

What I like about this book is that it's such an interesting perspective on World War II - it's not (right now at least) about Hitler/Stalin and their persecution (a la The Book Thief, Number the Stars, etc.). It's just about a British girl captured by the enemy who is telling her own story.

lol this one is pretty heavy at first...
I think her joking and lightness of her situation breaks up the other parts of her story, but this is NOT a light read so far.

I'm over 60 pages in and plan to stop at 80 something just to read something lighter!!!

YES this is really heavy. I don't think 5 chapters a day is feasible for me. I am enjoying it but it's not something I'm able to breeze through.

I feel like she's (view spoiler)[ spinning a tale and leaving me clues that I'm not getting.
The random underlining (not so random, read what she underlines again! It's Clues!!!), the perscription pages, the strange code for the date... (hide spoiler)]

It really is a very good book and I read it in less than 12 hours. I seriously couldn't put it down! I hope you like it! :)

Just to clarify (view spoiler)[ Verity is writing all of this down for Von Linden who is one of the German officers of the Gestapo. And they want her to tell them everything she knows about...well everythin; planes, radar and airbases. She doesn't know much so she's telling them about Maddie who's a pilot and all the info she knows because Maddie told her or observed being a Wireless Operator. Did I get that right? Or did I miss something? (hide spoiler)]

I still like it so far, it's interesting to see the history of what was happening during that time and also heartbreaking at the same time. I'm so anxious to see how it ends, I'm really scared for Verity and the outcome.

I was thinking (view spoiler)[ that Verity she was "Queenie" and she was telling it in 3rd person, but she would say something and would think "no, it's not her". lol (hide spoiler)]

I loved (view spoiler)[ the prescriptions she wrote out for Engel!! Verity is so funny, I just love her!! Maddie is great too, I'm really worried about her though!! I'm getting attached to this girls and I'm worried about the outcome of the story. (hide spoiler)]

Italics - they are a coded message. she let it slip that she listens to the guards and hears their plans and their coded words (because they didn't think she spoke German)

looks like a message to me. She's telling someone she's unsuccessful and needs them to help her.

3rd - all caps. They are also a message. I think (view spoiler)[ Anna Engel may be who she's passing these too. I still remember in the beginning when she said (in all caps)

I'm the same way, always looking for motives or fretting out the bad guy! I agree with you on everything!! They have to be clues, (view spoiler)[ why else would she write it out this way? I keep asking myself why is v.L. allowing her to write all of this? Because it's the only way she know how or does she amuse him?

I don't know, but I also think Engel may be on our side because when they were doing the prescriptions she said they had fun doing them. Was she being sarcastic?

I had the thought that maybe she was dropped in as a spy too! How awful the things they go trough! I like your idea that the mission is named Verity!! I think Maddie is real too, I haven't made my mind up about Queenie! (hide spoiler)]

I really am!!!! We ate at Ruby's on the peer yesterday! Great food and a gorgeous view!!!! We went to the Farmers Market...much bigger than the one where I live and it had a LOT more venders and music. It'll be hard leaving here, but when we go to Big Bear Lake there's a different kind of serenity there. Plus my son and his wife and their 6 kids will be joining us!!! I'm SO excited to spend time with them!! So 9 of my 19 grandkids will be there.

The only reading I'm getting done is early morning and late night. Lol Oh, and in the car!

My visit with Lee Fullbright was amazing!!! I'm so glad Heather got to meet her too. We spent from 11-12:30 or so in her home and (can you believe this) talked BOOKS!!! Lol And editing, and her new book she's working on. Lee is adorable!!!! Anyway then we went to a Mexican restaurant, the same as last year, and sat and talked until after 3:00. What a lovely, positive human being she is. Lots of laughs too!!! We're definitely going to see each other again!!!
