Dan in AZ | 2960 comments I received a spam-type message today to my e-mail. (Reply to this e-mail address and I'll send you a picture). Has anyone else received this trash, and Carol/Ann, can you notify Goodreads someone is claiming to be the Goodreads Team when they send this? There are links with the message too.

Merrilee in AZ | 1121 comments I have been getting a lot of crap the last couple months. Mostly, do I want a threesome lol. Nothing from Goodreads.

message 3: by Dan in AZ (new)

Dan in AZ | 2960 comments The problem with the one from Goodreads is that they've apparently been hacked. This kind of thing has led to a lot of problems on other social media sites, especially for people who have detailed information in their profiles.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16982 comments Lets see what I can do, thanks, Dan. I have been getting a "have you seen this" spam email from several people's email address that I know didn't send it, but not from Goodreads that I am aware of, but I have most email notices turned off.
The Goodreads page is loading slowly on my PC tonight. The tool bar message says loading bookads2 and then it just hangs. Ugh.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3502 comments I checked my spam folder, nothing from goodreads. It was good that I checked though, I have over a million dollars waiting for me in Ghana!

message 11: by Seeley (new)

Seeley James (seeleyjames) email is ancient technology that was designed without any security built in. With a little bit of tech-savvy, anyone can change the "From" line in an email.

It's the equivalent of Jim Smith of Dallas, TX walking into a bar in London and saying, "Hi, I'm George Benson of Miami, FL". He is who he is despite what he says and, unless someone has reason to ask for ID, no one is going to be the wiser.

You can report those spammers to your email provider. Their tech-heads will trace the server system it came from and block it. then the spammers move to a different server... and the game goes on.

Don't talk to a guy with a Texas accent who claims he's from Miami, and don't open email that looks like spam.

Peace, Seeley
