Sometimes I wish the series was a traditional RPG like Skyrim. I'd explore Omega until my thumbs fell off and do all the side quests there that were available.

Ha! Every time I see a piiiink character my first thought is, guy was was messing around with character appearance.
But yeah. What online writing group?

You have to sign up and do critiques in order to participate.

did you know they are doing an Elder Scrolls Online game? I am very excited for that. Signed up for the beta.

I did. I'm kind of interested in it but I am currently angry with Skyrim because it overwrote my level 60 character and 300+ hours so I'm anti-Elder Scrolls for the time being.

My old iPhone had the TARDIS.
I think it helps that the multiplayer is co-op. All four human players are on the same team against the game's AI. Having to work together lessens the tendency for people to act like idiots, because then your teammates do fun things like "leave you to die" and "don't heal you" if you behave like a moron.
I *have* had two experiences with total dickwads where I was like, "Lighten up, you little dick; it's just a game," but considering that each set of attack waves lasts about 20 minutes and I've played somewhere north of 350 hours, we're talking two douchebags encountered over more than a thousand games.
That's a pretty awesome ratio, all things considered. (Also explains why I read so few books in 2012.)
I've teamed with women on there and not heard a single discourteous thing said toward them. As others have mentioned, you don't have to talk if you don't want to -- I didn't for the first year I played because I didn't have a mic -- so no one can tell if you're a woman.
Also, you don't get to choose the gender or race of your character beyond the two starting ones. They have the exact same abilities and one is male while the other is female. My go-to starting character was a female Vanguard whose outfit I colored a sort of pink/coral (because I liked it as I was messing around in the character creator), so I'll wager lots of people thought I was female based on that, but no one ever mentioned it.
Give it a try. Start on Bronze difficulty as you level up, just to get a feel for the abilities and weapons. My handle is Trike117 if anyone wants to play.
I will note that I did try to go back to the single-player game after playing MP, but I missed all the cool abilities and weapons, which made the regular game seem even more boring. I always thought it would be cool to play ME as a Cerberus Phantom -- super-agile invisible assassins with an awesome sword -- and you kind of get to in the MP. (But not in the SP game, sadly, so I'm going to write a story about that for Brandon Sanderson's online writing group which started this week.)
