At least Albert seems to have the right ideas w/ fishing. Is he doing it for the better good or for wealth? I think for the greater good, IMO.

Take away the game boys and DVD's and use them as rewards for doing chores such as gathering crops, taking care of the littles, etc. (hide spoiler)]

I'm 37% and I agree, Sam and Astrid are bugging me. I'm not sure how they can solve their problems, making young kids do something they don't want to do is very difficult. But still. The animals are creepy, I'm glad they're more prominent than they were in the last one though.

Sam doesn't seem like the same person that was in Gone! I don't know what's going to happen to Lana, but she's my favorite, so she better not die! (hide spoiler)]

Yeah I had some of the same thoughts! I'm at 42% as well :) I feel like the kids are getting really desensitized to killing. I mean when (view spoiler)[ Harry died they didn't even seem affected by it. Just another dead kid. They were more worried about damage control than the fact that a kid died. Oh and what is Lana doing? She's going to try to kill the Darkness? Eep! (hide spoiler)]

I finished it! Really liked it, couldn't put it down, although I wasn't thrilled with some parts of it. (view spoiler)[ Poor, poor Duck. He got such a rotten end of the deal. They haven't really settled the civil war among them, yet, although I'm glad Sam finally listened to Albert's and Astrid's ideas! Quinn came through a lot better in this one. I'm not really sure Drake is dead, that seems to easy. I was amazed that Caine and Sam actually worked together for once! I'm very thankful Lana is okay, and also Edilio and Dekka! And what's going to happen to Brittany? (hide spoiler)]

Still have a lot of questions, so I'm actually kind of itching to read Lies now!

Finished! Wow, just wow...the run up to the ending was a frantic mess, but pretty suspenseful and fun! And I must say I'm quite impressed with how Grant brought all the plotlines together at the end and (view spoiler)[ Duck, oh Duck, a hero in disguise after all. I have a feeling it might not be the last we see of him. And Brittney, buried alive! What will become of her? Hmmm...glad to see Sam is stepping back as the ultimate leader of things, he's better as one of the leaders. (hide spoiler)] All in all I really enjoyed this read and will definitely be up for reading the next one soon!

I'm about 75% in right now! I'm really liking this one. (view spoiler)[ I still like Sam but you can definitely tell he's reached his breaking point.

I'm interested in finding out what happened to Lana. I'm not overly afraid of her dying since the Darkness needs her in order to become...whatever is it that it wants to become.

I have no clue why Jack would go back to Caine and Diana. They've never treated him good. I get that he's upset with Sam because he can't turn on the phones, but really?!

And I still am not sure what to think about Albert. I get what he's trying to do but it could go really wrong and he may just come off as greedy and I won't like him anymore.

And Zil drives me crazy! He's definitely out there for himself. I don't think he cares so much about Harry's death as he does for his own recognition.

I also don't like Astrid as much in this one as I did in Gone, unfortunately.

And Little Petey's dreams are crazy. I can't wait to see what comes out of those.

I think if I were a history professor for a high school and talking about government systems, I would use this book to bring up discussion. It would have made history class a whole lot more enjoyable!

Great review, and I agree with you on all the main points, except Sam. I understood a little, but to me he seemed like a completely different character! Also Albert (view spoiler)[ the author almost set this up so now we might have 3 kids trying to be leader: Albert, Sam, and Caine. Also possibly Drake! But I think it was good Sam finally listened to Albert. He is not a dictator and needs input from other smart kids, not just Astrid. (hide spoiler)]

This series is so crazy good. I have read all of them but book 6. The books make great buddy reads. I found myself texting random friend and saying, "you'll never believe what just happened in the book I am reading!" Michael Grant does not hold back.
