I couldn't finish Little Women either.. it was too sweet for my taste. Uncle Tom's Cabin and Beautiful Disaster..augh.. all those I tried to read this month.. time to find something good. I felt so bad about giving up though.
You couldn't finish both? Or just Divergent? Or you finished Divergent but couldn't finish Insurgent? Or you couldn't finish Divergent, tried Insurgent, and couldn't finish that either? Or you finished both and don't want to read Allegiant?*very puzzled*
Deborah wrote: "Yep. The Book Thief. I liked the premise, I liked the idea. Did not like the book itself. Stopped after three chapters."I couldn't. Finish this one either, I also couldn't finish Extras, and Pride and Prejudice.
Jon wrote: "You couldn't finish both? Or just Divergent? Or you finished Divergent but couldn't finish Insurgent? Or you couldn't finish Divergent, tried Insurgent, and couldn't finish that either? Or you fini..."I finished them both, I just hate them.
The Hunger Games :/ I have it and Catching fire but i never really read them. They didn't grasp me but I really really respect it and I always wish they grasped me.
I kind of didn't find the appeal to The Fault In Our Stars too. I'll try to read it because I didn't even finish the first chapter then I gave up.
Gone, I read the first two books but never finished the third one. It just annoyed me so much that they were always thinking/talking about hunger. I mean the second book is called Hunger and I kind of only kept reading thinking that only in that book it would be a main topic. So when I discovered this wasn't the case I stopped reading. Also I don't really like Divergent (I read both books though) cause I think of the books as predictable. But I do like the world that is created in the books. Still my friends completely disagree with me.
The hunger games, Twilight series, Da Vinci code, Unwind series, etc...........The Da Vinci code was boring, couldn't bring myself to continue reading past the first chapter, and I feel that Unwind is not series material, though the first book alone was okay.
As for hunger games and twilight, I didn't like its emphasis on the love triangle (or maybe that is all I could see because I really hate stupid love triangles). It is probably because love triangles are such a cliche and easy way to create conflict to love stories, that I have come to hate it. Either way, I never agreed with a fickle protagonist, or fickle people in general.
I'm reading The Interestings right now. I had such high hopes because it got a lot of great reviews. I'm about half way through and so far I'm finding it a bit boring. I've read much more interesting books. Maybe the second half will be better.
Divergent Gone
and Vampire Diaries.
I heard good things about all of them, but I couldn't finish the first two and hated Vampire Diaries.
Life After Life
I read it and I hated it. I appreciated the good writing style and understand it is a current contender for one of the best book of the year. But I was bored.
50 Shades of Gray. I made it through but it was like pulling teeth and I wanted to choke "her inner goddess" also Stephen King Under the Dome
Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. I made it through book 1 & skimmed book 2. I simply could not connect with the character and thought it was just horrible overall.
Fifty Shades of Grey. I couldn't believe all of these very intelligent women I knew reading it and oohing and ahhing over some sex in a novel. Erotica has been around for years, why is some horrifically written novel the popular one??? I just don't get it. Didn't read 2 or 3.And I don't hate the people who like it...I just don't get it :)

Meagan wrote: "I couldn't finish The Host. BORING!!!"I tried to read the host a few years ago and could not, for the life of me, get into it. But I decided to give it another chance last month and LOVED it!
Yeah...sigh. Arouse by Nina Lane. It has raving reviews & seems like everyone loved this series as a whole. Maybe I'll take another crack at it in the future :)
The Darkest Minds.. just ugh, everyone seems to love it so much and I just don't even know how I finished it.The Maze Runner was a disappointment as well.
Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy such a waste of reading time. Many disagreements over this one.
I'd had enough after book 1.
A few of my friends were kept talking about it so I struggled through the rest.
I'm afraid I didn't get what all the hype was about.
I have a list of them and they have all already been mentioned here. Life of Pi
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
50 Shades
Twilight
OmG yes!50 Shades of Grey
I only got to page two. Like I said in a recent review, guessing by the amount of over-emotional, horny teenage girls who carried this like the Bible my senior year (and my 46 year old leopard-print tights wearing, man-eating neighbor) I figured this book would just be terrible. That and the fact that it started out as a fanfiction.
Hate me as you will, girls. This book is overrated.
I have "broken up" with a book a LOT of times. More than I would probably want to count. Most of the time, it's usually a YA novel. I don't know. For some reason, I just can not get into YA. That's not to say something is wrong with it but it's just it's not for me. I have tried multiple times.
I never really break up with a book, but sometimes I do not really like some really popular ones, like Catcher In The Rye or The Zahir.
Wuthering Heights - the other Goodreads group I belong to read it and my own sister gave it 4 stars. I really tried to appreciate it and actually rented the movie too in case I just didn't "get" the book - I got it, just detested both book and movie.13 Reasons Why - just though it was a stupid story a self obsessed 13 year old girl would think up. I gave this one away before reading most of it. In fact, I left this group for a while because I thought maybe I was too old to be reading stuff like that.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
50 Shades
Twilight"
I've tried reading Girl with the dragon tattoo like 3 times. Finally I tried the audio version (which I did with twilight making it better) but I STILL couldnt get through this book. I have the movie on my netflix feed, but I dont know if I want to watch it because I couldnt get through the book :0\
I almost put the first book by Steig Laarson"the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo down so many times - I could not figure out why everyone loved it, but I picked it up again and then read all three and saw all 3 movies, including the Swedish ones with subtitles, I loved it so much!! He just spent A LOT OF TIME filling you in on the background at the beginging of the first book & that got quite tedious, but after that, I was addicted. I guess you really have to be in the right mood for certain books, sometimes I like the ones I hated before.I am so sad the author died, nobody will write another sequel half as good and he never got to see how much of a success his books were.
One book immediately comes to mind, which is Max Havelaar, by Multatuli. It's considered to be one of THE best Dutch novels ever written, but I just can't get through it. I've tried to read it at least two or three times, but each time I put it away after a few chapters.
--pretty much could not find one redeeming thing...I know I'm in the minority.
--good Lord, I was so disappointed...
--with all the buzz, I made myself finish it...but I pretty much hated it.
I just COULD NOT get into this book. The writing was crappy & Ana's "inner goddess" really creeped me out!
There's no book I don't read if I start, but there have been some that have been hyped by lots, and I just didn't like them. As for a classic, I just wasn't getting The Catcher in the Rye and The Heart of Darkness (but actually, the latter I have only heard literature researchers rave about :D). As for a lighter read, so many people were loving The Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter, but for me, it was kind of like one of the biggest piles of crap I have ever read. But it happens vice versa, too. I was afraid to read Chekhov's plays, because my mom was talking so badly about them, and now I had to read them for university, and surprise, surprise, I love most of them.
I hated The Goldfinch!! It was so bad IMO I deleted all books by Donna Tartt off my TBR! It did go on to win the Pulitzer last year but I hated it!
I finished both of these books but I was disappointed, Looking For Alaska and Perks of Being a Wallflower. I didn't hate them, but I was told several times that they're amazing books and I just wasn't enjoying them. I'm going to read The Fault In Our Stars soon but there's so much hype that I'm worried it'll have the same results.
i started Life After Life and couldn't finish it. I also didn't like Me Before You and it got rave reviews
I didn't like Twilight, I really hated Bella and Edward and I couldn't understand why everybody was so excited about them... but then I read 50 Shades and Twilight didn't look so bad in comparison :S
