Omelia Legg | 30 comments Yes, a book called Lacuna. I forced myself to get halfway and then I just couldnt do it any more :-( Everyone was raving about this book but for me I held no connection with it. This is one of the few books I have been unable to finish! Did anyone else.struggle with this book?

message 52: by Emily (new)

Emily | 1 comments I forced myself to get through Wolf Hall, but regret the time wasted on it. In retrospect, I would never finish a book I hated reading as much as this. I'm so nonplussed as to how this book has won so many awards.

message 53: by Laura (new)

Laura Francis | 1 comments omg yes.. the fifty shades trilogy, could not get into it at all, i still dont understand what all that riff raff was about

message 54: by Hanna[h] (new)

Hanna[h] Cumberbatch (andthetheyburiedmemummble) | 1 comments I can't get through city of bones. Don't kill me people, I'm trying. Hopefully by summer I'll read it before the movie comes out.

message 55: by Brooke (last edited May 13, 2013 12:40PM) (new)

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) I couldn't finish Mockingjay and didn't really like the Hunger Games even though everyone loves it.

message 56: by Kate (new)

Kate Manning | 5 comments "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" i really tried to finish it but i just can't.and no one kill me but city of bone is sooooo much heart ache

message 57: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (brendalindesouza) beautiful disaster ugh and also 13 reasons why :/

message 58: by Juliette (new)

Juliette Akameshu | 3 comments The torture for me was The Catcher in the Rye, and I was studying it for high school graduation (in France le BAccalaureat). I read the entire book, just so I can graduate. But it was for me a terrible book. I hated Holden Caulfield and his depression. And I coulnd't grasp how this book was kind of a "generation book" for a
every single little american. I thought it was depressing for a 17 years old girl. Now that I am older, I am starting to like it more... BUt not my first choice!

message 59: by Mike (new)

Mike Spinak (MikeSpinak) | 1 comments Yes, I have. Recently, that was the case with The Subtle Knife, by Phillip Pullman. (The sequel to The Golden Compass.)

I really wanted to like it, since it had been so positively reviewed, and also well recommended. I quit reading it around 150 pages in. I'm somewhat mystified by all of the effusive comments I've seen about what a great book it is and how well written it is.

message 60: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 4 comments Memoirs of a Geisha was awful. Everybody told me that it was amazing... No, it isn't.

message 61: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 32 comments Ismael in college. Not even sure if I spelled that right, but I hate that book with an ungodly passion. It's supposed to be some wonderful writing about saving the environment, but it bored the tears out of me and made no sense to me!

message 62: by Nadz HA (new)

Nadz HA | 7 comments Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. The first & only book that I can't finish. My bestfriend recommended it to me. For the life of me I can't finish it, even though I keep telling myself to do it for the sake of literature, beautiful peotic writing blah blah. Maybe someday when I calm down (10 years later...) I'll try to read part 2.

Brittany Perry | 229 comments Cassidy wrote: "Fifty shades. I had an argument with a girl I barely knew. Not my choice, but I was speaking my opinion of it, and she became extremely defensive. I just think it speaks all the wrong messages abou..."

I must say I agree it is a bad book but because the writing is terrible. It is more porn than literature. The way to see if a romance or erotic novel is worth anything is take all the raunchy scenes out and see if what is left would stand on its own. Best example is the dark hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I do however disagree with you on the men can't change view. Some men can change and some can't that's life.

Melissa (missams) | 59 comments A Tale of Two Cities. I always wanted to know what was so great about that book just to quote the first sentence. Never was able to get past Chapter 3, or was it 4? I can't remember. All I remember is that I am glad that I never picked that book up again. It is boring and confusing. Maybe if I read further I would have understood the book, but it was for a you choose reading assignment in 9th grade and the teacher decided it was time for me to pick another book.

I also left Ink Spell. I somehow "lost" the book. But if I find it I might just take my favorite book marker out. I do not think I can finish that book. With Ink Heart I celebrated when I finished it because I would read for hours and felt like I did not move anywhere in the book. It was just a long read, and Ink Spell was not making things better. Don't get me wrong the story is written beautifully and is always moving, but it is just a little to long.

The Devil's Advocate (devilzadvocate) I hate Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren
It's basically porn without a plot.

The Devil's Advocate (devilzadvocate) Melissa wrote: "A Tale of Two Cities. I always wanted to know what was so great about that book just to quote the first sentence. Never was able to get past Chapter 3, or was it 4? I can't remember. All I remembe..."

Me too. I've wanted to read it because of Cassandra Clare's reference to it in her writing.
BUT when I downloaded it on my kindle, I found myself skipping pages at first then I ended up ditching the book when I reached the fifth chapter.
I wanted to strangle Charles Dickens and tell him "DAMMIT! WOULD YOU GET TO THE POINT? !"

message 67: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 56 comments Okay, I don't like Dickens either. I think the guy most have been depressed most of the time. I can recognize that his work is considered great literature, and that he is considered a major talent. But just cannot get through any of his works. I have tried several and can't do it.

That is exactly how I felt about that book. JUST GET TO THE POINT DICKENS! I felt like nothing related to each other in the beginning of the book. Thank you Kathy and The Devi's Advocate for making me feel better about leaving the book.

message 69: by Sarah (new)

Sarah McMillan | 111 comments The Help...sorry to all those who loved it but I couldn't get passed the 2nd chapter. I think it was the flow of the writting more then the story in this case. I couldn't for the life of me get into the flow of the language.

message 70: by Ebonee (new)

Ebonee | 8 comments I had to break up with quite a few books, Twilight, 50 shades of grey, Great Expectations. I could not get into any of those books.

Adri (jadri7) | 76 comments Life of Pi and Miss Peregrine Home for Peculiar Children

message 72: by Dean (new)

Dean Blake (deanblake) | 21 comments Imperial Bedrooms, by Brett Easton Ellis. All his existing fans seem to love this book even more so than his previous work; although I'm a huge fan of his work myself, I couldn't bring myself to liking this particular story, particularly its writing style.

message 84: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 61 comments I didn't break up with it but I just read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and didn't enjoy it too much.

message 85: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara Ventura (bventura) Yes...Insurgent! After reading Divergent, that I think it was just ok, I tried Insurgent just because I was curious to see what happens next...But I thought it was so bad that I couldn't finish it...Stopped at page 250.

message 86: by Christine (new)

Christine Frances (ms_bookwerm) | 2 comments I couldn't get through Wolf Hall. I didn't like the author's style of writing. It actually confused me (which I'm embarrassed of).I feel if the author isn't a good storyteller, the book won't be good. I absolutely hate now finishing a book though and will only break up with it if I really don't enjoy it.

message 89: by Coco (new)

Coco I've tried the great Gatsby twice. even though I'm told it gets better towards the end I have in. but it is on my list to try again.

also belle de jour: secret diary of a call girl. the book felt like deja vu. fave up about halfway in

message 90: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) I wasn't feeling Beautiful Creatures....

message 91: by Destany (new)

Destany | 25 comments Beautiful creatures

message 92: by Ane (new)

Ane I usually always finish my books, but the Pilgrim's Progress was just too boring for me. I also despise Don Quixote, even though it was a notch better than PP.

I thought 13 Reasons Why and TFiOS were quite awful. Unlikeable characters. At least 13 Reasons Why had a more original plot, whilst TFiOS was the typical cancer story.

message 93: by мєℓ (new)

мєℓ I agree with Ane. I was bored with TFIOS. why? Because it is the author's speech, not the character's.

message 94: by Joanie (new)

Joanie Dugan (thealaskanyoung) I didn't like Crossed, the sequel to Matched by Allie Condie. I also don't care for the Hunger Games or Twilight.

message 95: by Jameth15 (new)

Jameth15 | 5 comments I'm sorry to any fans of this book, but I could not get through the first 20 pages of Blood Red Road by Moira Young. It was terrible. The list of books I've broken up with is not very large. It's mostly books from high school. maybe I'll mention more later...

message 96: by Christian (new)

Christian Maria Morgan Little Woman
Ugh.....

message 97: by Christin (new)

Christin (namalia) | 9 comments The Knife of never letting go. I only heard good things about it and it was recommended to me several times but I just couldn't stomach more than the first 30 pages. That boy and his dog just made me so mad.

message 98: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, the Hunger Games book 2&3, the Host, the book thief, the Golden Compass, plain Kate, and the fourth eragon book..
i also dont like the orginal Pride and Prejuidice book.I liked the remakes, though... New Moon, Eclipse,

message 99: by N (new)

Deborah | 42 comments Yep. The Book Thief. I liked the premise, I liked the idea. Did not like the book itself. Stopped after three chapters.
