Anshul Gupta (AnshulGupta) | 2 comments Hello everyone, I am Anshul Gupta from New Delhi,India I am a journalism student, currently in my last year of Graduation. I had zero interest in reading books before graduation, but graduation and effectively journalism give me this new habit of reading books which tells more and more about practically everything.

However my interest in reading books is about anti-imperialism, their lies and truth.
The coming of new government in power in India brought the imperialism to my country in full swing. So I got interested in India's political history. India's leaders after Independence etc.

I will really appreciate if the group help me to guide me about what books to read.

Bryan Craig Welcome Eileen, it sounds you have gathered some great life and work experience. UN job? Very nice.

We have a history of science topic:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

Suzanned99 Hello All,

My name is Suzanne, and I live in the United States.

History has always been one of my favorite subjects. Even in high school, I was one of the few who read my history textbook for pleasure. If it’s well researched and written, I like just about any topic. However, I particularly like autobiographies, especially by non-famous people with no agenda other than to record their lives. Also, I’m researching my family tree, so I often select books that will help me understand an event an ancestor lived through or the period he or she lived in.

message 4324: by Grafakos (last edited Oct 03, 2014 07:08PM) (new)

Grafakos | 25 comments Hi all, I recently joined this group and am looking forward to participating. My reading in history has been largely US-centric (plus a bit on ancient Rome) but I'm looking to broaden my horizons. I suspect like many people, I am taking advantage of the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War to do some reading on the subject. I found the following to be a very nice overview:
A World Undone The Story of the Great War, 1914 to 1918 by G.J. Meyer by G.J. Meyer G.J. Meyer

which I followed up with

Paris 1919 Six Months That Changed the World by Margaret MacMillan by Margaret MacMillan(no photo)
and
The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman by Barbara W. Tuchman(no photo)

Unfortunately, now I'm hooked and I've added at least a dozen more books on WWI to my TBR pile, and that barely even takes into consideration the many titles which have been published this year. In recognition of the inevitability that I will be reading many more titles on the subject, and to supplement the mostly horrible maps in the books above, I have bought two excellent WWI atlases which I can highly recommend:

A Military Atlas of the First World War by Arthur S. Banks by Arthur S. Banks(no photo)
The Military Atlas of World War I by Michael Neiberg by Michael Neiberg(no photo)

Additionally, I'm just about to get started on the even more daunting subject of World War II.

My name is Michael and I'm a roving American English teacher. I have lived in various places in the USA and South Korea. I will also be in New Zealand shortly to study, travel, and work for a couple of years. I like to travel so I find reading history necessary for understanding more about the places I go and live. I'm interested in all sorts of history past and present. Thus I joined the group here in an attempt to include more history books into my reading each year.

Sarin (sarinbellum314) | 1 comments Greetings, everyone! I just recently joined this group. I look forward to reading (and hopefully participating in) some interesting discussions. Like Grafakos above me, my main reason for joining this group is to broaden my horizons and learn to see history from an entirely different perspective. My history education (what little of it anyway) was also very European-centric and I'd like to change that.

Right now I have an interest in all things History of Science.

Jill H. (bucs1960) I moved this from another topic.

Hi fellow history buffs!
If you like to talk about the Crusades, then you will find me your best friend. I also have great interest about Early Christianity - up to Constantine's conversion, the War of Turkish Independence, and in general about the conflicts during the Sixties. Much of my knowledge is second-hand, thanks to scavenging the Wiki during free time in my office hours.

Regards,
Salafis

Bryan Craig Welcome, Adam. Glad you could join us. We have a U.S. Civil War topic:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

The Civil War A Narrative by Shelby Foote by Shelby Foote Shelby Foote
