ARCHIVE TWO: PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF ~
Hi, my name is Jan. I'm a software developer with a deep interest in ancient Rome, WW I & II and several other eras in history. I'm looking forward to the discussions here.
Welcome, John. Glad you could join us.We recently finished The Metaphysical Club. We certainly did some interesting social discussing. You might look at the threads for the book. The TOC & Syllabus thread for the book is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hello everyone~~~My name is Kellinger. I have certain fascination for history, I love to read about World War II.
I must say am a very curious girl, I always want to know the bottom of everything, What the church history is, how art began, how the world itself started to develop after the big bang explosion, how the conflict between Israel and Palestine started, and so on.
I want to know so much more but I don't know where to look at. I joined this group in order to gain knowledge because I believe I can learn that here.
Thank you everyone ^^

Hello gang. Brett Alan Williams here in the US. Left a rewarding career in physics to read, write, paint and hike with my pups, while I’m still agile enough to scale the Sierras. History interests span from the ancients (Sumer to Greco/Rome); the American Founders and their era; and why civilizations rise and fall. Looking forward to learning from all of you out there.

Great ZOT! No kidding, Vicki, there are many good looking history sections in here. This should keep me happy for quite some time. Thanks!
Good Morning. My name is Erik and I am a teacher of history and social science at a high school in Sweden. A period in history that have called my attention in the last few years is the 1800s. At age 17 my historyteacher read to the class from a newly published book. From that moment I was lost. And the book was:
The Battle that Shook Europe: Poltava and the Birth of the Russian Empire
Glad you could join us Erik. It is always good to have a history teacher as a member. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. Peter Englund@Erik - thank you for attempting the citation - the above shows you our citation format - book cover when available, author's photo when available and author's link - all three were available.
Welcome - we love history teachers from around the world. I always admire folks who can discuss, read and write in multiple languages.
You posted: "At age 17 my historyteacher read to the class from a newly published book. From that moment I was lost"
Did you mean that From that moment I was hooked or enthralled.
Believe me if you asked me to post an intro in Swedish - I would have to go to google translator - I would be hopeless and lost.
You are doing wonderfully and you had a wonderful introduction. I look forward to hearing more about Sweden, history and social science teaching and curriculum in Sweden and about your personal historical interests and topics.
We have a lot here for you to discover and we are all here to help you along the way.
Bentley: Lost to current affairs and hooked on history I guess ;)(Or should itbe lost for?)
Thanks for your kind words about my english, here it's mandatory in schools to take english so I should be able to pull off an introduction.
Hooked on history is never a bad thing (smile). Like I said I would never be even able to say hello in Swedish - by the way how do you say hello in Swedish, or welcome, or you're welcome or thank you.
Bare with me, I'm doing this on a tablet, too fat fingers I guess. Thank you is easy, it's "Tack"
Hello = hallå / hej
Tack again (smile) You might have said above - no clue or no interest in current affairs and hooked on history if I am understanding you correctly.
You are doing very well with your English - idioms and slang are hard.
Also you said: A period in history that have called my attention in the last few years is the 1800s
You might have meant - A period in history that has captured my attention in the last few years is the 1800s or that has caught my attention.

Hi, my name is Heather. I work at a WWII museum and have my MA in History so I read a lot of history books mostly about WWII now but try to branch out every now and then. I obviously need to know about the military aspects of the war but prefer to read personal stories to help humanize the war to the students that I tour through the museum. They can only absorb so many statistics and dates.
Hi everyone. My name is Rebecca. I love history and particularly "up close and personal" stuff like diaries and letters. Relationships and why people chose their path or changed it keep me intrigued. I don't have much experience sharing on club sites but I'm willing to attempt , with all your guidance.

My name is Dennis Ward, from Louisiana. Since I live in an historic town, Opelousas, est 1720, I am surrounded by history. My favorite time period is early to mid twentieth century. I always enjoy finding new authors and if you have any favorites, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations. I look forward to participating in the group's threads.
Hi, I'm Dave Allen; I am enthused to be a part of this group. I've been a reader for awhile, but caught the history bug a few years ago. I'm currently in the U.S. Army, so of course I have a lot of interest in U.S. military and political history, but not exclusively. It's a big world and I've been trying to expand my horizons. While my shelves are filled with traditional academic history, I really enjoy getting into the personal stories of people who have lived through turbulent times - I'm partial to Studs Terkel, and thoroughly enjoyed Marjane Satrapi's 'Persepolis' books. I look forward to taking part in discussions!
So, my name is Joseph Inzirillo and I currently hail from Kingston, WA. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, moved to Boca Raton, FL when I was 16 and joined the Army when I was 20. I spent 15 years in, climbing from PV1 to SSG and then switching over to the Warrant Officer corps. I was medically retired as a CW3. I did 4 combat tours (3 to Iraq and 1 to Afghanistan) and was awarded a Bronze Star for my efforts during "The Surge" in Iraq. After the Army, I worked for Gulfstream Aerospace, Rotary Corp International and the US Government. Now I am a full time student working towards becoming a High School History Teacher. As far as my History reading goes, I am particularly obsessed with World War II, most modern Military History, the History of the US 3rd Infantry Division, Egypt, the Knights Templar, Arthurian Legend and the history of Mythology.

Hello all,
My name is John Tompkins.....
As a reader I tend to prefer non-fiction or fiction with some type of historical theme. I also like reading books with a bit of political and social insight.
