Bryan Craig Hello Heather. I'm glad you found us here.

We have some American history topics:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how a book should look:

John Clifford | 1 comments Hello, History Book Club members,
My interest is rather narrow: the history of graphic design. This sometimes spills over into other areas of design, like architecture, and art. What I love, though, is that learning about the history of anything often leads to a much broader understanding of history in general, as politics, culture, technology, etc., all play a part. Looking forward to conversations with you-

Oksana (dunpeald) | 1 comments Hello,
My name is Oksana. In school, I was planning to become a historian specialized in XX-th ct. Since middle school I've been reading books and studying documents related to WW I and II. Now I am a marketer interested in history of Law and State (mostly UK and Europe). Actively look for non-fiction books about UK history.

Should you want to share information about UK/European state or legislation system history books or documents, please, inform me.
Thank you.

message 3072: by Dean (new)

Dean (flatfoot) Hello,

Thank you for providing this group and allowing me to join.

My name is Dean Kriegel and I am from the Midwestern United States.

My study of history allows me to better understand the world surrounding me by connecting it to the long chain of historically significant events which led up to it.

I study and enjoy history because it provides me knowledge of what is possible. It shows me what actions (good or bad) people have accomplished or perpetrated beyond what is observable in my immediate time and surroundings. It provides a much larger range of possible thoughts and actions beyond the observable people and events of my own time.

I study and enjoy history because it illustrates, in world changing actions, the power of ideas. Through reading the history along with the most culturally significant literature of a period (philosophy, fiction, etc.), I can grasp the ideas held by individuals and their cultural context that made the historical events possible.

Without a knowledge of history a person is stumbling around a dark unfamiliar room with a candle. With a knowledge of history every electric light in the building is ignited.

I study Western History. My favorite topics are Ancient Greece, the Enlightenment, the American Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. This year I am focusing on studying history from the Dark Ages through the American Revolution. For a three year period I am reading chronologically from Ancient to Modern—I'm in my second year. Once I finish this I will stop this chronological plan and read whatever most interests me. I am religious about my yearly reading challenges.

B Kevin (bkevin) | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am a retired astrophysicist in Minnesota. I came to reading history rather late, as it was poorly taught in my High School. It was only after college that I discovered how fascinating it really is. My primary interests are European (especially German) History and Medieval History.

Hi Sandra.
We have a few books online for the year. The group reads will be back soon.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books you mention should look:

The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott

Liz Hi, my name is Liz and I like reading just about anything, but have found myself attracted more towards historical biography, world history, the ever shifting power struggles between nations, and the rise and fall of empires. Hopefully I will find some good suggestions / good books to read in this group.

shescribes (iamspartacus) Hello...I am a new member from the U.S. My educational background is in both History and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Social revolutions particularly peaked my interests during my university days, as well the American Mafia's influence in pre-revolutionary Cuba. However, my history interests are eclectic. I recently became enchanted with the turn-of-the-20th-century through WWII era, and enjoy reading biographies/memoirs. Social history is what makes me tick, so the interplay between studying film along with reading good books is a nice complimentary mix that feeds my old soul.
