What would happen in a world without dreams?

What do you think would happen in a world without dreams? What would happen if the common disbelief in dreams, and their treatment as childish fantasies eventually led to the inability to dream while asleep, and awake?
Sometimes I feel like that could happen. Too many people are influenced to take the 'safe route' and end up giving up on their dreams.

Life is a short piece of string. Best case scenario? I might die of old age. Statistically, something else will cause my demise. I imagined my favourite country, Greece, and how things might appear in the year 2091, if such a negative communal attitude were to prevail.
