Ken B | 6810 comments This is a book description on Amazon:

"Crosco is a young child that is turned to evil when he near dead after being shot the Devil helps him make a deal to save his life."

Really? Yeah, sign me up for that one! I almost want to download the book just to give it a 1 STAR rating for the book description. I'm pretty sure the text of the book won't be too far different from the description!

I think a lot of ebooks have descriptions that were outsourced to Pakistan or New Jersey....

message 3: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments LOL!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

It's sad but anyone can self-publish basically anything these days, which is both good for indie authors because they can take control over their books and careers but mistakes like this that run rampant make *some* of the book-buying public think that most self-pubbed titles will be similarly unpolished.

Personally I'm more disturbed that a character is named Crosco than anything else in that description. :p

message 5: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Wow...Attempting to decipher that description hurt my brain.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) That is one ugly blurb, on multiple levels

Ken B | 6810 comments I'm waiting for my review to go live on Amazon. I'll bet they weed out my review but don't have the quality control structure in place to prevent retards from posting crap book descriptions!

message 8: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments WOW! My review went live!:

"Crosco is a young child that is turned to evil when he near dead after being shot the Devil helps him make a deal to save his life."

Why would I even bother reading a book that has this piss-poor of a book description! Come on Amazon! How about a little quality control?

1 STAR

message 9: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Horton | 324 comments Well, you know, everything is about self-esteem. Allowing anyone to publish anything they want as a book is good for their self-esteem so it is allowed. Anyone telling the author how bad their book is and how much they are hurting the self-publishing industry and movement hurts their feelings, so it is not allowed.

message 10: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments I can see this epub thing spiraling out of control at some point. The publishing houses probably love whats going on in regards to this self-published crap! Its going to get to a point where even self-published authors are going to need the endorsement of someone with publishing muscle in order to make a sale...more than just the paid-for reader reviews.

message 11: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments Of course, I now look like some cranky curmudgeon on Amazon. I've given three 1 STAR reviews in the last 5 days.

I had to give up heavy drinking when I got married and had a kid. Stamp collecting just isn't going to cut it!

Damn, I just did too! I didn't want to have to go that far. I think I just pulled a brain muscle!

message 16: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Trolling, perhaps. But look at this cover to one of his works (he's got 14+ up on Amazon!) called "Real Life Spiritaul Horrorz" (eccentric spelling left in-tact).

http://amzn.com/B00CJXR1HQ

I think this may be a situation where our mothers would be ashamed of us for poking fun.

Either way, he'll likely be getting a take down notice here shortly, as rumor has it that Amazon is telling authors that they need to lengthen books less than 2500 words or their works will be removed from the site. All of Moody's books are less than 10 pages in length, from what I can tell.

Shaun Horton | 324 comments Pretty sure he doesn't have the license to sell Elvis Presley's sheet music either.

Honestly, I'd have to wonder if this guy is actually ten or twelve years old just from the spelling and grammar. Not to mention how short ALL these books are.

On second thought, maybe this is one of those terrorist cell operations and the books are written in code with instructions for other cells on when to strike?

Kate | 3525 comments This is from the sample, oh dear!

'To start from the begging I was a child who could see spirit’s good and evil. But the first time I encountered a spirit it was evil. I thought it was a good spirit because it was in the form of a little girl an as we all know a little girl can look so incent. As I was talking to her. She ask me to let her in? Being a child and not knowing any better.'

message 20: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Horton | 324 comments The description for his book "Vampire In The Light When Darkness Falls and The Weapon of Fate."

"A hero is born through darkness and light born half vampire and half angel named Vangel"

This is what happens when kids are brought up believing they can do no wrong...

message 21: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Vangel? Isn't that a personal hygiene product?

I can't remember...

message 25: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Oh, no, Mr. Recluse, you're going to get us all kicked off Goodreads. And, since, Amazon now owns all book cataloging sites, there will be nowhere for us to go.

Wow...atrocious. See, this is why I still have a chip on my shoulder about self-publishing. I know that there are some very talented writers out there self-publishing, but I don't want to wade through crap like this to find it.

message 27: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments There was one being talked about here a couple of weeks ago. A reviewer here, her name was Donna, negatively reviews a couple of this guy's books. Next thing you know the guy comes out with a new book Donna Eats Dogs! No lie!
I can't put a link in through this GR app, but it's easily found at the Kindle store on Amazon. Check it out and don't forget to" Look Inside" !

message 28: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments "Donna Eats Dog!"? Well, at least he can pick good titles!

message 29: by Kate (new)

Kate | 3525 comments This is the link:

This is from the sample:

'I Once dated this girl named Donna. That I met off an 800 chat line! We chatted on and off for a few days. She seemed to be idea woman for me. So I gave her a chance. We decided to meet up at a local mall. I was nervous about meeting her. I hadn’t been with nobody in over a year. On the phone she seemed to be intelligent and down to earth. But little did I know this would turn out to be the worst date or dates. ( Yes there were more than one.) And I can explain as follows.'

message 34: by Gregor (new)

Literally. That is all it takes.

message 36: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Horton | 324 comments You know, this should be the answer to a bad review when someone says your work is the worst book they've ever read. You should kindly thank them for taking the time to review your work, and then point them to one of these.

message 37: by Gregor (new)

Gregor Xane (gregorxane) | 420 comments Bad reviews shouldn't be acknowledged by the author. But, yes, if it wasn't bad form, this would be a good approach.

Considering this fact, I think I'll go ahead and publish my self-help book of erotic supernatural horror soon. It's called "My Sores Are Not Catching."

message 39: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Horton | 324 comments Or what about the conspiracy theory that these so-called authors are fake people created by one of the big traditional publishing companies in an effort to discredit self-published authors ?

I also browsed the other works of the person that wrote "Donna eats dogs" and he has one book published which is just a collection of cut and paste from websites. Granted, it probably reads a bit better than his other works, but again, he's not doing the rest of us any favors.

I'd not heard that theory. It would be funny if it were true. It certainly wouldn't be hard to pull off.

message 41: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments It looks like the "author" of Crosco is listening to the readers. He has revised his book description to read:

"Crosco was left as kid to fend for himself breaking into house to find food, water just to survive as he get's in one house the owner of the house catches him and shoot's Crosco in the stomach left for dead after running from the owner he has to make a deal with the devil."

SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT!

Shaun Horton | 324 comments And, it may actually be the same one.

"During the conference, the conferees recognized Galveston native Robert L. Moody for his personal crusade to advance brain injury research by making him the first honorary recipient of the prize named after him, established by the University of Texas Medical Branch in his honor. Mr. Moody has actively supported brain injury research since his son, Russell, was seriously injured in a car accident in the early 80s. He encourages scientific investigation through his own financial contributions and those of the Moody endowment and the Moody foundation. The Moody Endowment established a distinguished chair in cognitive rehabilitation (The Russell Shearn Moody Chair) at UTMB in Russell Moody’s name."

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments This sounds like a book PublishAmerica would publish. I say he is either really young or from another country, Ive found alot of people on here with similar grammar issues, I sort of feel for them but at the same time I cant help but cringe..eh like for real Amazon, you gotta look some stuff over..you just gotta!

message 47: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman | 8320 comments Yeah, the revised description is SO much better.

This only goes to prove that there are way too many "authors" out there who just won't come to terms with the fact that it actually takes skill to write and not everyone can do it. Give up the dream and do something more suited to your abilities. Leave writing to those who know how.

message 49: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6810 comments Its a direct result of the participation ribbon mentality, AKA the 10th place trophy mentality. These morons have been told for so long that mediocrity is acceptable and have accordingly been awarded for their lack of performance, that they have begun to believe that anything that comes out of their vacuum-filled heads is worth sharing!
