A case of exploding mangoes! I tried my best on more than one occasion but couldn't get my head wrapped around that book. It's just been collecting dust on my shelf for all these years. Although after all the praise from this group, I might be inclined to try again.
Im not sure whats worse. Knowing the book is 'meant' to be a great one and is highly recommended and i just cant go on or the pain if continuing with it.
@Sairah I think if the book isnt giving you pleasure than its not worth reading at all :-(... this happened to me twice once with lord of flies and again with war and peace.... managed to end lord of flies by skimming but war and peace is still lying in my library :-P
Awww man we did lord of the flies at school. Why on earth they made us sweet innocent and nieve 11 year olds read it (and watch the film) I have no idea. Gave me nightmares tbh
I can't seem to get into The Great Gatsby, so you can imagine my horror. It's a literary classic, a must read, and yet, here I am suppressing the urge to toss it away.
@Sairah Well I read it at my own discretion.. wasnt part of my curriculum.... My curriculum focused completely on Sheakspear :-P:-P

Haha then I'm sorry i shall not feel so sorry for you :p
But wow only Shakespeare? I think in my whole school years we've been made to read 3 of Shakespeare's works. Come to think of it I actually really liked them.

@sairah did they make you watch that horrendous romeo and Juliet movie they make you watch in school!!! I think the movie killed the story for me!!!
Lol no but we watched Macbeth as the film and as a play which was awesome.
It's so cool but I swear lady Macbeth has some serious issues. Especially in the film. But the witches at the beginning always make me laugh ^_^
Hahahhah I remember all of us making fun of her in class! Though the whole "not born of woman" thing was a letdown, when it turn out macduff wasn't supernatural just born early!!! I remember thinking, how lame!
Omg so true. It would be so cool if he was a ghost or something awesome. Come on there were witches. A couple of ghosts wouldn't hurt :p
@Sairah yup all Sheakspear... And no we just read them no movies or plays :P:(I read nearly all of my Sheakspear works in those days... Starting hating Sheakspear after Romeo and Juliet... And read nothing after that :P
Havent seen or read Macbeth... sorry already hated Sheakspear before I was introduced to this book :(
Lol no really you should defiantly check out Macbeth. The details of who everyone is confused me but overall it was so good. Oh have you read merchant of Venice?
I dont know... I dont like Sheakspear anymore :(.... Merchant of venice ka bohat he zyada abridged version parha tha... Was equal to not reading at all... So I think the answer would be no :(
Oh well. If you ever decide to give him another chance in the future then I guess this would be a good one to go for :)
spears is a very good writter.... you should never read the abridged version of his books. his work is complicated because of his style and languge but the idea is really good.
try macbeth or hamlet for instance...

Well you cant tell kids of class 5 and 6 that can you?? :Pabridged version are easy to understand especially if you are a kid... It helps in clarifying the idea... Hamlet I have already read.... Infact not read but it was a very favourite book of one of my teachers and he used to tell us about it... and walked us through it... so although havent read it but know about it :)
Nope.... I have read A midsummer night's dream, as you like it, twelfth night and then came Romeo and Juliet and that was a big full stop :(
I had a hardcopy of Antony and Cleopatra... Urdu version by Oxford publishers... but it was extremely boring :(

I like Twelfth night, a midsummer night's dream... Basically I hated Romeo... and thus by extension I started hating Shakespear too...Acha "Bari Aapa" ji.. I'll start reading him again ;P

thanks for the heads up...:)
Its a good book but like a second rate novel... more like Deception point... Not at all like Da Vince Code or Angels & Demons :(Thanks :)
I actually like the lost symbol. That is probably because Im really interested in US History and the history of the masons and so many of our forefathers being masons.
War and Peace..ufffff so many characters and their complicated names and details and everything, didnt able to read even one page in one day:( There were also Russian words here and there that i couldnt understand, so I lost interest and put it in my shelf where it remains safe and out of reach:P I am keep telling my self and others that the only reason I couldn't enjoy this classic piece is because the English translation i have, is not good enough:-p
