Daniel (DanCorri) | 11 comments Hi,

I have a copy of, "Jessica" by Bryce Courtenay. When I typed in the ISBN to search if the book already existed on Goodreads, the book was there but it had a different cover and it has a later published date without the number of pages listed.

My copy details:
ISBN 10 - 0140279601
ISBN 13 - 9780140279603
Published 1999 by Penguin Books Australia Ltd
676 pages

What/how should I fix this? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks Daniel

Empress (the_empress) If you are a librarian add the new edition and leave the ISBN field blank. Upload the cover you have (scan it) and then leave a librarian note that it is an alternate cover edition together with the ISBNs, so it don't get deleted.
Then combine.

Refer to the manual: http://www.goodreads.com/librarian_ma...

Daniel (DanCorri) | 11 comments I am a new librarian and I did think to do that, but my issue with doing so is, my edition was published earlier than the one already listed, so by rights, my edition should be the one that uses that ISBN, shouldn't it?

Empress (the_empress) I believe that is correct. In any case leave the librarian note with the edition that has the blank fields.

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments As a rule of thumb, don't edit ISBN edition information off existing records. Better to start small and cautiously like you are, and if in doubt, ask! :)

Empress (the_empress) In a similar case should we edit the ISBNs? I usually just add the librarian note.

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments I usually err on the side of caution, and don't. Only cases where I would are either:
a) I have the go-ahead from a Super/Rivka (a Super-Rivka? Ahem)
or
b) I am merging an edition.

In all other cases I usually either just leave well alone or post a message for a PTB decree.

No. It's first into the database. The edition you add gets a Note regarding what its ISBN is, but its ISBN field will be blank.

Daniel (DanCorri) | 11 comments ok, thanks rivka and everyone else :)
