Discuss the book here!

The question to think about is:

Why do you think Juliette is attracted to Warner?

Please feel free to extend the discussion beyond the questions (which are there as a topic-starter!) and simply talk about the book as well :D

Lady Poppy | 367 comments Oh my goodness, this book is absolutely fantastic.
*clutches book to chest and sighs dramatically*
I'll wait to say more until other bookworms comment :)

Alex (acobaf) I just started to read it about five min ago and already had to take a break to put kids to bed. I'm way too excited to sleep I want to see if Warner joins Juliette's side or not! I've been speculating in my head why the author would want me to love him so much by writing 1.5

Alex (acobaf) I think she is attracted to him because he is kind of like her, but after reading the book I predict the next one will be he can project his feelings and she is feeling his too, it will be a new plot twist. But it doesn't matter cause I love him anyways and if she can't handle him I will take him off her hands lol

Lady Poppy | 367 comments Guys, this question has to be asked.

Are you for Warner or Adam? :D

Alex (acobaf) Warner all the way!

Team Warner! Especially after the novella Fracture Me!

Warner always pushes Juliette to her potential, tries to drag her out of her comfort zone, even if it is through nefarious means. Adam on the other hand, views Juliette as a weakling and his second priority after his brother.

Therefore, I believe that Warner is good for Juliette, and I love Warner... so yeah Warner. I'm guessing that's why she is attracted to him too. It's because he is so different to Adam. He is pushing her to be her best, and through Warner Juliette is trying to understand the whole difference between good and bad and how it's not black and white but rather different shades of grey. Warner also puts her as first priority because really ... he has no-one else.

Juliette herself is beginning to realise that maybe she should be with someone who sees her potential, rather than her weakness.

I also loved this book a lot more than the first, mostly because there wasn't an overuse of metaphors like there was in the first one. This one was full of action, drama and had ALL THE FEELS.

Tahereh Mafi's writing was also not overly-pretentious like it was in the first book. It was of course very poetic and beautiful and I love the concept of the crossed out lines. The poetic writing really captures Warner and Juliette's personality. So I agree with Alexandra. Maybe they are just really similar.

Also, I love how Warner doesn't endeavour to shield her, or treat her like she isn't an equal. I think Juliette responds positively to that quality he has - the way he treats her like an equal, a person capable of making a difference...instead of a broken, frightened girl, or a death machine.
