Isn't that the rule? All residents of Dystopia must present at 0500hrs for their daily belittling?
Hello Liana and welcome.

As long as their 5am happens 5 hours later then the actual one. Maybe midnight can be moved to the morning.

Thanks Jackie!

Hey Beau. Thanks for the welcome. I LOVE Blade Runner but only saw the movie (many times).

So far I've read: 1984 (my fav book!), Lord of the Flies and the hunger games.
Currently, I can only listen to audiobooks due to my illness. Fortunately, there are a lot of books nicely narrated nowadays so that won't be a problem.
I'm gonna look around for some nice reads, but of course you can recommend me your fav book as well! :-)

Evening Talitha and welcome :D

I'm Jamie, and I am a huge fan of the dystopian genre, particularly YA. I know, I know, I am 26, but I love it, and have been reading about two or three books a week for a while now. Always had a passion for reading, and this is my latest obsession. Hope you all are doing well! :)

So far..."
Well, if you haven't tried the oldie but goodie, The Giver, give it a try before it comes out as a movie in August! In my opinion this novel is the forerunner of most modern dystopian literature. it is not a very long book, but will spur arguments as to the 'true" ending to the book! The author is Lois Lowry (sp.) Good luck in your hunt for those elusive great reads!!!

I agree with Beau. I'm 24 and I also like YA fiction. And there are people way older who like it as well!

Hi everyone,
I'm Christopher, I have recently published my debut short novel Ralph and the Purple Fly an eloquent sci-fi and horror satire, now available from Amazon http://ow.ly/yAzax.
I have also just begun a blog where I review other author's work at www.christopherbruntauthor.com so feel free to check that out too. And, inevitably, I'm on Twitter with @CJBWriter.
Otherwise I look forward to chatting with you all at some point.

Hi, I'm Danielle. Love dystopian fiction; 1984 is my all time favourite book. Blade runner is also one of my favourite films but strangely I haven't got round to reading Philip K. Dick Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?- must get round to reading it. I think I like dystopian fiction because the best writers within the genre echo down warnings to the present - painting us pictures of worlds/futures that are best avoided: pretty powerful stuff if you ask me... Anyway, love well thought out dystopian fiction - any recommendations welcome :).

Hahaha i agree! when i tell people I'm reading YA I think its funny- but those books put more effort into plot and character development than adult books which sometimes are heavy into romance- though i do like those too-
Welcome to the group, Danielle. Try Phillip K. Dick's Valis trilogy. They're all good reads.

Please add me a friend if you like actually using Goodreads. I love reading other people reviews and getting recommendations.

Charlie, I think I'll send you a friend request. I love to get new recommendations too ;-)
Thanks for the recommendation for VALIS, Royce - the blurb has definitely intrigued me. As for Jj's comment (message 344), "I liked dystopian stories because Its a fiction that can be related to any part of humanities timeline and at some point they are real (in a metphorical way)" I agree with what your saying unfortunately the 'literary guardians' frequently tend to under estimate the function of dystopian fiction. Shame!
