D.L. Young | 19 comments Hi Group! I'm a SF writer whose work typically features near-future dystopian settings. I was born in Texas and I've lived in Mexico City and Miami along the way. I currently reside in Houston.

I love cooking and travel and of course reading!

The Windup Girl and Neuromancer are my favorite books in this genre.

Yes *hangs head in shame*

At least auto-correct hasn't written anything truly foul yet.

Hi Erina.

Erina to Dystopia Land and Goodreads, please if you have any questions just ask, it's can be a "bit" confusing.

Evening Beau, it's morning for me!

message 261: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) Ellie, I think that is one of the reasons I like Goodreads. There's always something happening, regardless of local time.

My name is Ken. I'm new to good reads as of last week. Currently reading an oldie, The Sleeper Awakes by H.G. Wells. I have just finished the draft of my first dystopian novel, Chainge (yes, with an 'i'), which is now undergoing developmental editing. Hope to self publish September/October timeframe.

Ceridwen | 1 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Ceridwen but you can call me Ceri. I love to read all kinds of dystopian fiction and my favorite book of all times is Atlas Shrugged. I've just finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy and really enjoyed it. Any suggestions for what to try next after I finish the Divergent trilogy? I like to read both adult and teen books.

InTheComfortOfTales | 6 comments If you like dystopian try Stung by Bethany wiggins or Angelfall by Susan Ee. If you want to try fantasy I would recommend Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas and Half-blood by JL Armentrout. Science fiction - The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey and Obsidian by JL Armentrout. Hope this helps :)

I'm being decidedly lazy. I'm trying to catch up with some TV that I missed while writing, so I'm watching Breaking Bad (everyone kept going on about how much I would love it).

What about you Aya? How is your evening? Not too chilly, I hope.

Breaking Bad is a great show, some parts are a bit slow though. When you reach those parts just remember it gets better.

A lazy day for me as well. I'm just catching up on my beta reads and ignoring an assignment I have due.

Not chilly at all, it's about 15C here. Even if it were a tad cold I'd still be a happy camper. Winter is my favourite season. :)

Is it cold where you are?

message 290: by Beau (new)

Beau Johnston (beau_johnston) It's been good so far. I'm enjoying it while I can (before the writing-bug claims control of my free time once again).

It's not too cold (yet). This morning was chilly, but that's to be expected, "Winter is coming".

Hello, my name is Linda and I love reading books of all genres. I also love Haiku, especially writing it!
I am retired from retail, and from teaching sewing to kids, so I get to read quite a bit. I'm not great at reviews so I only do a few. But I love to discuss the books I've read! Would like to recommend one I finished not too long ago, "EVERFALL" by Joe Hart.
EverFall
It's not too long and easy to read, but is a good dystopian world story.

message 300: by Liana (new)

Liana | 24 comments Hi. Glad I found u guys :-) I only recently (a year ago or so) heard/learned the term dystopian fiction. Love this genre... and realized that Ive loved it since I was a kid. 1984, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm were a few if my faves growing up.

I got back into this genre by reading The Hunger Games series which I know is youth fiction. Same as the Divergent series. Reading Rule of Three right now. Sheesh. See a pattern? Younger stuff. Heck... I'm almost 50 and want to read DF with more substance. I read SK's The Stand which was good but tooooo long. Soooo, I've turned to Goodreads... found you guys and have already got a couple of great recommendations. Looking forward to making some friends here. Li.
