Welcome Frenchie and thank you for joining us, And yes, Brave New World is a perfect example of Dytopian literature.

Thanks Ellie! The book is set in a dystopian world where the population is divided by the classical element that defines them (earth, water, air, fire). All elementals are conditioned from early childhood to fully develop and emphasise the desirable attitudes and skills particular to each element group. The story focuses on Anaiya, a fire elemental who is trained as a peacekeeper, and Seth, an air elemental who is an incredible artist and leader of an underground, non-violent resistance. I'll be posting updates on my site over the coming months, but in the meantime you can check out the sources of inspiration for the characters and setting here :)

My name is Brock.
I have been reading ever since elementary school. A lot of times i want to do nothing but sit and read. me and my fiancee love reading together. We both work at a school for special needs children and young adults and love our jobs. So inevitably reading is a big part of work luckily. We both love the Hunger Games series. Hopefully I'll be able to share more titles as i get more involved in this group.

Seriously, my friends and family can't and won't understand my addition to books (dystopian mostly but I also enjoy other genres and non-fiction). When I was younger, I only had the classics to feed me and now, between adult and YA fiction, there has been an explosion of dystopian stories to feed my addiction to books.

I think what draws me in is the strength of the human spirit, how it will try and prevail in the most bleakest situations and the odds are stacked against. I think it gives me hope that there are really some things in the world are worth fighting for.

I read fast so that makes the addiction worse. Even with a hectic professional career life and being a single mom - I could easily polish off an average book size of interest in a day or two. This doesn't include the daily ritual of 30-45 minutes of bedtime reading for my child.

I'm also getting other children addicted as well in a world where electronics especially video games are so much more exciting to them. We wonder why illiteracy amongst children are on the rise. I have, over time, lured these children with promises of unusual heros, epic fantasies and wild adventures from other worlds. Their growing addiction feeds mine.

That is my introduction.

But in the last years a amazing percentage of the fantastic book i read turned out to be dystopian...

As it seems like dystopian is the new black.

Misty here. I also read a lot of Dystopia books. I didnt realize that was my favorite genre until someone pointed out to me that I read mostly Dystopia. I agree with you Klaus! The future is no longer our friend! And what happened to the flying cars we were promised!?

Hello one and all, my name is Beau. I enjoy reading dystopian fiction and watching dystopian movies. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Status: Deadzone, The Terminator, 1984 and V for Vendetta are among my favorite books.

I think my first taste of dystopian entertainment was when I saw Mad Max (I was 8 or 9 years old at the time). My parents didn't like me watching horror movies at the time, but thought it was important for me to watch Mad Max, because it was an Australian movie.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting other members of the group and perhaps finding my next favorite book.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is similar to The Running Man (another favourite), in that the book and movie are almost nothing alike.

Good Morning! How does the morning look where you are? Pretty overcast at my end.

I'd have to concur, everyone I know reads on average 5 books per year. I must admit I do watch quite a bit of TV, not a fan of reality TV though.

The Running Man is also on my TBR :)

It's the weekend, so the world's looking pretty good. Speaking of reality television, The Running Man and Death Race 2000 (1975 movie) foretold reality TV, and made some pretty dire predictions.
