Thanks Beau! I think my library has a copy, so hopefully I'll get to it soon. ^.^

P.S. Natalie I adore dark Alice in Wonderland art."
I do too! My photo is fan art (not mine) of the video game, American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns - THE BEST game ever made, in my opinion. ^.^ It's the loose sequel to the original PC game, American McGee's Alice. If you're into games, you should check it out!

I've played the first part a couple of times. I absolutely loved it and is one of my all time favorites. I was thinking of getting the second one but was worried it will not be as good. I guess I will have to check it out now sine you are recommending it :D

Hi all! I'm just an ordinary girl living in the book world. I carry a book everywhere. And by everywhere I mean everywhere. I obsess over books all the time. I feel like when no one understands me, books do. I love the Percy Jackson Series and The Hunger Games. Right now, I am reading the Fifth Wave. I am relatively new to this group and hope to rant about my book obsessions!!
Welcome FangirlQueen.
How are you liking the Fifth Wave and what are your expectations about the coming up movie?
How are you liking the Fifth Wave and what are your expectations about the coming up movie?

But I don't know about the movie. I really hope they make it as good as the book. But the book is just so confusing. I hope the movie isn't. I wonder how they will make the viewers understand all the different points of view and different events...
Thank you for your welcome.

The Giver
The Hunger Games
Fahrenheit 451
Brave New World
1984 (though technically I think that's utopian)
Ready Player One
I'm also an author and just all around word-obsessed human. Good to meet everyone!

Greetings, Devon.

I'm Holly, I'm an English Literature major, and I adore dystopian fiction! My favourite authors include Margaret Atwood and HG Wells. I was looking for some new groups that are specific to my interests, and I loved the look and feel of this group.
I'd also love to get discussing some books, especially since dystopian fiction is such a varied and exciting genre!

I'm not currently reading a dystopian book, but Oryx and Crake is on my shelf waiting for me. Looking forward to seeing other recommendations from this group. :-)

Laura, this is one very good book. You couldn't have picked a better one to start reading dystopian literature.

I've just joined the group. I am the author of The Invisible College Trilogy, a YA dystopian apocalyptic mystery with SF elements.
Book 1 They Do Things Differently Here was published August 2015. Book 2 Dust and Shadows was published February 2016. Book 3 A Perilous Journey due Spring/early Summer 2016.
More postings and contributions soon! By all means ask questions on my Goodreads profile page.

Your book sounds great-looking forward to reading it!

Thanks Ellie, I've added quite a few that have been recommended on this group to my "to read" list - looking forward to getting further into dystopia!

Favorite Books: I like anything that is well written with great characters and a fast-paced, intriguing, heart wrenching plot
Favorite Genres: Dystopian, Suspense, Fantasy.
Favorite TV shows: Damien, Bates Motel, Game of Thrones, The Family, The Americans, Orphan Black, The Vikings, Tyrant, Ray Donovan, Narcos, Black Sails, Humans, Indian Summers, Fargo, Lucifer (Television has gotten so good!)
Favorite Recent Movies: Chappie, The Force Awakens, Trainwreck, Mockingjay (I love so many movies)
Favorite Food: Enchiladas, Crawfish Etoufee, Greek salads with Gyro meat & Greek potato salad, Greek Fried cheese OOmpa!
Hobbies: I am a zumbaholic!
And I’m honored to be part of your group.

I also really enjoy stories where the main character(s) have some sort of unnatural powers.
My favorite Dystopias currently are:

Hi Lee!
I too love dystopian novels and kind of see them as almost a manual as to what to expect and how to survive when this happens! My first (collaborative) novel, Ash Tuesday, was recently published and I would be honored if you would consider reading it. It takes place just two years into the future and really is not much different from our current world, with one twist. I tried to put myself in the position of the characters and researched a lot in terms of how one survives a world gone mad. Currently the kindle version is on sale for the next couple of days - only .99!

I wrote and published my first novel in June of this year.
I live right outside Nashville, TN, but am originally from Memphis. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. Besides reading, I love puzzle games (Hi, I'm Patti, and I'm addicted to Candy Crush), sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, and most recently writing.
I have been an avid reader my whole life, and especially love series. I remember reading Beverly Cleary's Ramona series when I was in school. I am most currently addicted to the PA genre, thus why I wrote in it.
I'm looking forward to being a part of this group, getting to know all of you, and you getting to know me.

Thanks for asking, Ellie! Here are a few:
The New Homefront Series by Steven Bird - one of my favorites
The Survivalist Series by A. American - I love the characters in this one, plus picked up a few pointers for my preps
The Jeremy's Run Series by G.F. Gustav - it's hard to imagine anyone getting out of LA alive, but the story is good
The Stranded Series by Teresa Shaver - YA, but still entertaining
I'm reading the Boston Brahmin Series by Bobby Akart right now. I had a hard time getting through the first one, but I know he was setting everything up for the rest of the series.

I'm a criminal appeals lawyer, a writer, and an actor. I wish I had some more time for pleasure reading. Hopefully, I'll pick up some good recommendations here, and have some interesting discussions.
Thanks.
Welcome Steven :)
I keep thinking how not full-time writers have to sacrifice their reading when they write. The only reason I have not become an author as well. I'm joking, of course. I prefer to live in the imagination of others, that's why! :D

I love dystopian futures. There is something about cyber punk realities that gets me. People thrown together through unique circumstances that live in a horrific environment yet somehow there is beauty in it. Somehow they manage to find a whisper of happiness. I think they make me reflect on my own life and how trivial some things I get upset about can be. Wow, way too much information. But anyways look forward to recommendations and meeting everyone!

Thanks! I see you like Stephen King! Any recommendations for my first? I've always wanted to read one of his novels. I was about to pick up his short story compilation recently but decided not to for some reason at the last minute.

Either The Stand or The Dead Zone and if you like short stories than Night Shift is I think his best collection . I am currently reading a dystopian novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro .

Thanks, I'll check it out.
