Thanks Beau! I think my library has a copy, so hopefully I'll get to it soon. ^.^

I do too! My photo is fan art (not mine) of the video game, American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns - THE BEST game ever made, in my opinion. ^.^ It's the loose sequel to the original PC game, American McGee's Alice. If you're into games, you should check it out!

I've played the first part a couple of times. I absolutely loved it and is one of my all time favorites. I was thinking of getting the second one but was worried it will not be as good. I guess I will have to check it out now sine you are recommending it :D

Hi all! I'm just an ordinary girl living in the book world. I carry a book everywhere. And by everywhere I mean everywhere. I obsess over books all the time. I feel like when no one understands me, books do. I love the Percy Jackson Series and The Hunger Games. Right now, I am reading the Fifth Wave. I am relatively new to this group and hope to rant about my book obsessions!!

Welcome FangirlQueen.

How are you liking the Fifth Wave and what are your expectations about the coming up movie?

message 608: by Enrica (new)

Enrica Kumar | 3 comments I really like it. It's just a great page flipper and it's an edge of the seat read. You know what I mean? I just love the twists and turns and the strategizies. Have you read it?

But I don't know about the movie. I really hope they make it as good as the book. But the book is just so confusing. I hope the movie isn't. I wonder how they will make the viewers understand all the different points of view and different events...

Thank you for your welcome.

Ciscokid | 1 comments Hi, I'm new here. My name is Toni and I've been addicted to reading since the third grade and have always read just about anything I could get my hands on. My favorite genres seem to change from time to time. Right now I'm into dystopian, apocalyptic, horror and thrillers. At the moment I'm reading 1984 for the first time and wondering why I've put off reading it for so many years. It's a very interesting read. I look forward to being a part of this group.

message 612: by J.L. (new)

J.L. Pattison Greeting, Ciscokid. And good choice on Orwell's magnum opus. Fantastic book (one of my favorites). If you haven't had an opportunity to read his book Animal Farm, get it and read it immediately after you finish 1984. You won't be disappointed.

message 616: by Devon (new)

Devon Trevathan (devontrevathan) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Devon, and I live mostly inside my head or the heads of authors I love. I'm a big fan of dystopian novels—there's something so interesting about the genre, I can't get sick of it. My favorites so far are
The Giver
The Hunger Games
Fahrenheit 451
Brave New World
1984 (though technically I think that's utopian)
Ready Player One
I'm also an author and just all around word-obsessed human. Good to meet everyone!

Holly (hollycoulson) Hi everyone,
I'm Holly, I'm an English Literature major, and I adore dystopian fiction! My favourite authors include Margaret Atwood and HG Wells. I was looking for some new groups that are specific to my interests, and I loved the look and feel of this group.

I'd also love to get discussing some books, especially since dystopian fiction is such a varied and exciting genre!

Laura (kshantichela) Hi, I'm Laura. I read all sorts of books, but really enjoy dystopian books. My favourite is possibly A Handmaid's Tale - but I suppose that might be because it was my first!

I'm not currently reading a dystopian book, but Oryx and Crake is on my shelf waiting for me. Looking forward to seeing other recommendations from this group. :-)

Isabela Oliveira (isabelaolivie) | 1 comments Hi , my name is Isabella , I love reading different kinds of books, but science fiction is among my favorite genres. I love reading dystopias , post- apocalyptic and science fiction with social criticism. My favorite books : George Orwell's 1984 , I Am Legend , The Island of Dr. Moreau (not dystopian but has social criticism ) .

message 631: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonartsy) | 1 comments Hello my name is Shannon, I tend to lean towards dystopias, mostly the kinds that have darker themes. I also try to stay away from the "teen love story" undertones. I don't mind subtle love stories but when a book is entirely around some angsty teen with puppy love I want to fall asleep lol.
I also really enjoy stories where the main character(s) have some sort of unnatural powers.
My favorite Dystopias currently are:
The Complete Unwind Dystology Unwind / UnWholly / UnSouled / UnDivided (Unwind, #1-4) by Neal Shusterman
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1) by Marie Lu

Peter Gulgowski (petergulgowski) | 1 comments As a lover of dystopians, it's only natural that my debut novel, 'The Government' was one! My name is Peter, and I'm looking forward to seeing suggestions and perhaps gaining a few readers along the way! :)

Hi Lee!

I too love dystopian novels and kind of see them as almost a manual as to what to expect and how to survive when this happens! My first (collaborative) novel, Ash Tuesday, was recently published and I would be honored if you would consider reading it. It takes place just two years into the future and really is not much different from our current world, with one twist. I tried to put myself in the position of the characters and researched a lot in terms of how one survives a world gone mad. Currently the kindle version is on sale for the next couple of days - only .99!

P.A. Glaspy (pattiglaspy) | 3 comments Hey gang! My name is Patti, but my author handle is P.A. Glaspy.

I wrote and published my first novel in June of this year.

I live right outside Nashville, TN, but am originally from Memphis. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. Besides reading, I love puzzle games (Hi, I'm Patti, and I'm addicted to Candy Crush), sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, and most recently writing.

I have been an avid reader my whole life, and especially love series. I remember reading Beverly Cleary's Ramona series when I was in school. I am most currently addicted to the PA genre, thus why I wrote in it.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this group, getting to know all of you, and you getting to know me.

P.A. Glaspy (pattiglaspy) | 3 comments Ellie [The Empress] wrote: "Welcome Patti. What are some of your favorite PA books?"

Thanks for asking, Ellie! Here are a few:

The New Homefront Series by Steven Bird - one of my favorites
The Survivalist Series by A. American - I love the characters in this one, plus picked up a few pointers for my preps
The Jeremy's Run Series by G.F. Gustav - it's hard to imagine anyone getting out of LA alive, but the story is good
The Stranded Series by Teresa Shaver - YA, but still entertaining

I'm reading the Boston Brahmin Series by Bobby Akart right now. I had a hard time getting through the first one, but I know he was setting everything up for the rest of the series.

I'm a criminal appeals lawyer, a writer, and an actor. I wish I had some more time for pleasure reading. Hopefully, I'll pick up some good recommendations here, and have some interesting discussions.

Thanks.

Welcome Steven :)

I keep thinking how not full-time writers have to sacrifice their reading when they write. The only reason I have not become an author as well. I'm joking, of course. I prefer to live in the imagination of others, that's why! :D

Kooka | 3 comments Hi, my name is Lauren!
I love dystopian futures. There is something about cyber punk realities that gets me. People thrown together through unique circumstances that live in a horrific environment yet somehow there is beauty in it. Somehow they manage to find a whisper of happiness. I think they make me reflect on my own life and how trivial some things I get upset about can be. Wow, way too much information. But anyways look forward to recommendations and meeting everyone!
